I totally had an amazing experience at Tang. The service was impeccable. I was met at the reception by an amazing hostess who showed me an available table which was at my liking. I set next to the blooming trees that give an amazing ambiance to the place. Queen with the rest of the other waiters and waitresses catered to every need from making food suggestions to always being within reach. I had such an amazing experience and will definitely be coming back for the experience and hospitality.

We ate in Tangs last night. Restaurants at the Waterfront can be a bit hit & miss but I feel that Tangs shows great promise. Having eaten in Nobo last week the general concenus was that the food was at least on par if not better in the case of some dishes. Of course Nobo is a different vibe & I’ve never really liked the front row restaurants at the Waterfront since they created the wall way through creating a path straight through the restaurant. The food was pretty much perfect, the service friendly & efficient. I will echo some of the reviews re the hostesses . What’s with the attitude? Drop it please, don’t make your customers feel that they are unworthy & should be eternally grateful to be allowed in. I reiterate it’s not the servers they are great it’s the superfluous hostesses. The music was also a bit overwhelming. My tip would be to book a table inside its very tasteful & a different ambiance. Overall loved the food , we will be back & wish the restaurant every success

wonderful dining experience! If you’re a lover of spice, the Spicey beef tenderloin is an absolute must try. Frankie, our waiter, provided excellent service and makes you feel ever so welcome. The vibrant ambiance of the restaurant enhances the overall dining experience as well. Whatever cuisine you order from their selection, best believe Tang will leave you wanting for more.

We were looking forward to a wonderful evening to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We made the best of our celebration, however, our experience left a lot to be desired for. The food was really delicious and we enjoyed all the hidden flavors, however, that was the only enjoyable bit. The first bottle of Chardonnay we ordered was out of stock…. that is not a good way to start. Our starters were missing an item (which our waiter fixed). Our mains arrived over an hour after we ordered them and with 3 apologies from the waiter (apparent chaos in the kitchen, although they were not full and it was a Wed eve) they finally arrived. We sat inside and it was extremely hot. We didn’t want to sit outside due to the putrid fish smell coming off the harbour (not their fault). Unfortunately the air that was coming through the vents (not cold aircon) directly above us was pumping the same putrid smell onto our table. We were told that it comes from outside. Our waiter went missing in action and we had to constantly call other waiters or managers to get more ice or order another bottle of wine. I was also unable to constantly open and pour our wine as my left arm is in a sling recovering from major shoulder surgery, and we would have thought that they would be a bit more attentive to assisting, rather than my wife having to pour the wine. Our mains plates were not cleared away despite plenty of waiters walking past, and we waited about 10min to get our bill after calling a manager to find our waiter. We spent about R2k in total, and we did tip the waiter well, as most was not his fault. However, it baffles me that a restaurant of this apparent quality fails to ensure that they employ qualified and fully trained staff. If you are paying exuberant prices for food, you expect exceptional service and ambiance. We are regular foodies and this was unfortunately another bad experience at the Waterfront.

The restaurant was fairly busy for a Saturday lunch in early Jan but not so busy that service should have been affected. Despite a fairly small wine list, the waiter was clueless as to what wine I ordered. We waited over an hour for our starters - a very bland and overly cream cheesed cream cheese and spinach dim sum; a dreary wagyu tataki and a sea bream ceviche which I'm pretty certain was yellow tail. None of the starters had any punch or Japanese flair .. sweet and salty with no kick and certainly no umami. Our mains arrived just as the starters were being removed ... a very disappointing Korean fried chicken ... I've seen more life in a morgue and suspect it had been sitting on the pass while we ate our starters. The other main - a beef stir fry was greasy and flavourless aside from the omnipresent and cloying sweet sauce that seems to accompany every dish. For a restaurant that claims to have been inspired by contemporary Japanese Izakayas it's deeply disappointing.

Go to Tang, they said .... 🫣 Lovely and pretentious, but then you need to live up to it. The most intriguing is the little tampon, refresher towels that swell when you put them in water. Baby Kingklip was DELICIOUS and very tasty, but in the TINIEST, little plate literally as big as the fish, and you have to ask the Waiter for a side plate. Don't think arrogant waiters in Cape Town will top up your warm water or champagne. Oh no, that is beneath them. The 2nd bottle of water never came. Damnnnnnn, I miss the days of LA Colombe and amazing food in Cape Town. They had over R300 soft shell crab - nice dipping sauce, but the crab so so oily that taste was in my mouth for hours afterward. Had to leave didn't have dessert was too irritated with service.

My experience at Tang, Waterfront, Cape Town, left much to be desired. Despite the gorgeous decor and vibe reminiscent of Sexy Fish in London, several aspects of the evening fell short of expectations. I was disappointed to find that the menu couldn't be viewed online, leading to some uncertainty about what to expect. I have uploaded photos taken of the menu from walking by the previous day. Our server, Jerry, suggested aperitifs for the table, which, though delicious, came with a shockingly high price tag (R390 each), making it the most expensive cocktail on the menu. Unfortunately, the disappointing service continued as Jerry took his time to take our food order after offering such expensive drinks. While the vegetable tempura and satay seabass were delicious, the main courses left much to be desired. Mains were served a staggering two hours into our time at the table, with the orange chicken being small in portion size, lacking flavor, and slightly cold. My order of sticky black pepper beef stir-fry was unbearably salty, rendering it inedible. The side dishes of rice and noodles were also on the smaller side. While the Cantonese crispy fried prawns were a good-sized portion and served with complimentary dips, they weren't enough to redeem the overall disappointing meal. Service continued to disappoint as my third cocktail took an unreasonably long time to be served. To add insult to injury, the total bill for drinks and food amounted to a staggering R4,485, making it the most expensive and disappointing meal of our trip to Cape Town. Despite being a generous tipper, I was shocked by Jerry's presumption that even 10% was warranted given the lacklustre service and disappointing meal. Overall, I cannot recommend Tang due to the rudeness of the staff, disappointing meals, and poor value for money.

After walking past Tang multiple times at the V&A we decided to book it as it was always full and looked great. The service from the start was incredibly slow, drinks took over 20 minutes to arrive and food over an hour- we had to ask multiple times for simple things such as napkins and more sauces, eventually we said we would rather cancel our main (duck to share) as the novelty of waiting had very much worn off. However, shortly after that it did arrive and was delicious but after asking for more pancakes and being forgotten about we cut our losses and ordered the bill (which arrived in two minutes). One of the waitresses, Cara was attentive but just clearly so far stretched. For the money, sadly wouldn’t recommend when there are so many other restaurants in the area.

Quite a disappointing meal, and not what we expected at all. The service was slow and it took more than an hour to get our food after we ordered. Several of the items we wanted like chili beef as well as some dim sums were not available and the Peking duck were also not available. Drinks very pricy, a bottle of water 75 cl was 95 Rand which is expensive for Cape Town, actually comparing to the chefs warehouse they sell them for 55 Rand so very very different The manager didn’t seem too bothered when I explained but she did apologies and offer us a free glass of Prosecco. Not a good experience and we will not be coming back

So having been to Tangs previously we were prepared for perhaps mediocre service. To be fair all of the waterfront restaurants are very hit & miss in this department. We only wanted a light lunch. We ordered still water (other reviews correct London prices) , a beer - it never arrived, seared sashimi & teriyaki salmon. The food took a long time & they really weren’t that busy. We had asked for it to come all together - it didn’t. The sashimi wasn’t seared. The server told me it was, she clearly had no idea what seared is - this sashimi hadn’t been anywhere near any heat. She was adamant it was seared. It’s like someone is looking at a dog but telling you it’s a cat. Then she started talking about sauces etc so I gave up , I have Crohn’s disease & have to be very careful what I eat. The salmon arrived, (for my husband I hasten to add) chewy, spicy , overcooked & with mash? We paid & left & cancelled our dinner reservation for the following week. Is it too much to ask that your servers at least have some knowledge of food?

Ours was supposed to be amazing but everything was cold, the chicken was gone off, I got duck then chicken gyozas and we ordered vegan, curry had a layer of skin on it it had been sitting so long! All the noodles were cold, mistakes were made with the ordering process! To top it all off we were over charged by 100€ (we’re Irish so conversion) and it was all just a terrible terrible experience! We had a lovely server who was good to us but everything else was a shambles

Lovely pan Asian food in a Harbour setting. The menu was quite varied with tapas plates as one of the main causes and a good selection of sushi. All the food was delicious prepared and presented with some theatrical Dry eyes smoke. Jerome was a waiter who was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some great suggestions. We had some delicious cocktails and there was a good selection of wanted an offer. We would definitely think about visiting again.

If you ever visit Tang Restaurant at the Waterfront you should request to be served by Frankie. She knows how to engage with her guests and make the dining experience memorable. She is very welcoming, friendly and put a smile on your face. She had excellent product knowledge and was the only Server in Cape Town that delivered a genuine and heartfelt service. She ensured we kept warm and brought us some blankets while enjoying our delicious meal. I recommend the restaurant to utelize her as their trainer, due to her skills. Working in Human Resources, I would say she was a pleasure and should be nominated for employee of the month. It is employees like this that would bring any restaurant return guests... We honestly had the best time, thanks to Frankie... Keep up the great work. This restaurant is lucky to have such an amazing employee. Clinton & Sid

Yesterday was my 5th meal at Tang. The first was brilliant, second was good, 3rd good, 4th disappointing, and 5th disappointing. Let’s start with the 4th. As always we ordered the full Peking duck so know what to expect. Prior orders were presented with a whole duck carved at the table. The carved duck filled two servings dishes. This time, no whole duck was brought to the table, just one serving dish, with half the amount of duck as previous. When I queried it, I was told it was a full duck. Unless it was a duckling, this was not true, and I was charged for a full duck. Yesterday was my 5th meal. Service was not as attentive and what really irritated me was: Under the sim sim section they offer the “Tang Dim Sum Basket- Any 4 of the above” We made our choice of 4 different dumplings only to be told that half of them could not be included in the basket” As this formed part of our starters selections it left a sour taste for us. If you say any 4, it should mean any 4.
