This is the best stop you will make on your way down to Cape Town. This "padstal" is just another example that many of our farmers in South Africa will never give up, not even a horrible drought can stop them from farming, even if they must stop their farming activities for an uncertain period they will still believe in better times. At this "padstal" you will meet the friendliest people, from the staff up to the owners of this place, if they greet you they greet you like old friends. It is such a nice way to stop and stretch legs for a while with one of the best "roosterkoeke" and real coffee you will ever find on this planet. We even make sure when returning home after our holiday that the "padstal" will be open for business. We had our favourite "roosterkoek" with cheese and jam and stock up on old homemade food/cookies etc.
This "padstal" is like a beacon of hope in the middle of what seems nothing. Do yourself a favour and make this a must-stop en route wherever you go for holidays or business.

Amazing Roosterkoeke, very tasty and extremely fresh. We received very friendly and quick service from the owner. She was very welcoming when we placed the order at 7 the morning
Prices very reasonable, and lots to see inside shop.
Can recommend this shop for everyone, as the food really tasted amazing

A super AWESOME stop - we never miss it when we travel to the WP. The coffee and roosterkoek are legendary and always something new and unique to see and/or purchase. Even though the "rain meter" tells their story, it remains a "touched by the finger of GOD" place. <3<3<3
Many blessings!!

Her name is Zelda, she has long dark hair. Please keep your children away. We have always had wonderful experiences there until today when Zelda (who takes the orders at the counter) was very rude to my child when my child requested whether they had iced coffee since the weather is very hot. I won’t mention what she said. The owner did apologize on behalf of the restaurant and gave us our orders on the house as take aways which we very much appreciated.

We anticipated generous “platteland” hospitality, but instead experienced an encounter that conflicted with our sensibilities. Upon arrival we were confronted by four dogs in a pen devouring a chicken feathers and all. The sign said the dogs were on sale for R4,000 each. One customer informed the owner that the dogs had no water. The staff disregarded COVID protocols altogether. Of the five staff members working behind the counter in close proximity, only one wore a mask covering her mouth. The rest had none. The waitresses (I saw two) also didn’t wear masks at all, walking around bare feet and speaking over the food while calling out customers’ names to deliver their food. The ablutions were smelly.

I am so sorry to read about your bad experience. I took a long time before I respond to your review and was wondering if it is worthwhile to do so. You let it sound as if the pups were mistreated. They were definately playing and turn the big bowl over. Luckily somebody did bring it under my attention and I immediately refilled the bowl. The chicken jumped into their pen and unfortunately they killed him. As you should have noticed we were really busy at the farmstall and it is a pity that something like that happened. Yes, the pups were in a pen underneath a shady tree because we were expecting somebody to come and choose their pup. They asked us to take them to the farmstall because they were in a hurry. I don't know why you are referring to the price. They were really cheap. Definately too cheap but we are not selling dogs for an income. If somebody pay something he definately will take better care of his dog. Normally they are playing in our garden with lots of grass and shady trees. Regarding the Covid issues.... We do sanitize every table. The guests have to sanitize at the entrance and at the counter. There is normally only 3 persons behind the counter. The wearing of masks is a debateable subject and for us wearing masks the whole day when it is 37 -42 degrees is really impossible. Did you ever tried that? The one lady who were barefeet was standing in front of the stove the whole day. Here on the farm it is quite general practise to walk barefoot and so do a lot of customers. She helped to take the food to the customers whenever she could move from the stove. Normally the waitresses do wear masks and I surely believe that in these hectic circumstances just forgot to grab a mask. Everybody just try to serve our customers on the shortest time possible. What the toilets concern. Due to a 6 year drought we have no water for flushing toilets. We have to make alternative plans and longdrops were the only option. We are trying our best to keep it clean and we do use the correct chemicals. We do get lots of positive feedback from people who understand the dilemma we are facing. I am really sorry for the bad experience but hopefully you will pop in again. Unfortunately the longdrops are here to stay due to the fact that we want to have enough water for the animals. The drought of the past 6 years teach us many lessons.
Regards
San-Marie

I was excited upon arrival when we saw all the animals as my two year old adores all animals.
My heart sank as we entered and I saw a pen with "German shepherd" puppies for sale at R4000 each. They had no space to run around and play, nor was there any grass. The pen was also very filthy.
As I proceeded, we saw rabbits and budgies in a cage. The budgies were overheating. There were two bowls of filthy water in the cage. I asked my husband to inform the staff. They gave him a cup and told him he could give them water. My husband washed the bowls and gave the rabbits and budgies clean water. The rabbits came running and immediately drank water when my husband placed the bowls in the cage. It was 34 degrees and really really hot. One would hope that animals would at least get clean water twice a day. In this heat, I would hope more often. I wish we could help the animals more.

It's a pity you didn't come to me and confronted me with the "bad circumstances" regarding the animals.
All the animals get fresh water on a regular basis. It's not right that the rabbit's water wasn't "clean" at that moment but they are eating dry lusern and the lusern do get in the water. The water appears filthy. We do fill and clean the bowls on a regular basis. 34degrees is not nice but luckily it wasn't 44 degrees.😜 There is enough shade in the cage and the cage is partially covered by a Thorntree. The puppies are normally at home. We did bring them with that morning because a family want to choose their own puppy. The Pups that we are selling are NOT German Shepherds. I am not a breeder but don't think it is a good idea to give them away for free. They are in excellent condition
Fully vaccinated and vet-checked. There "pen" is underneath a shady tree and there is more than enough space for a couple of hours.
Wishing you and your family a prosperous 2022

We were happy to find this quaint and quirky karoo style farm stall and cafe on the side of the road. The people are very friendly and it’s the perfect spot to stretch your legs and order something to eat. There are a few farm animals for the kids to see and a baby buck that could be bottle fed. It was a memorable visit.
We were rather disturbed and sad to see that they are selling puppies, even though they are in good condition.

What a delight to find this padstal in the middle of what seemed like "nowhere". A unique stopover with a cool verandah to sit on, farm animals for children to see up close, an interesting playground, a friendly rooster, a shop full of unique items and the most delicious chutneys, jams and marmalades. The "roosterkoek" is "vars van die vuur" and delicious with butter, jam and cheese. The coffee is delicious too.

On the hot dry flat Karoo quite a way outside Willowmore on the way to Aberdeen this surprise roadside stop awaits those who needs a break from driving or have some time to spare. The shop has many hidden gems and the food is great.
Just don't expect VIP toilets. They may have to upgrade these in future especially as more and more visitors are going to stop there.

Thanks for your positive feedback. We are currently busy building extra toilets. Unfortunately we are in a terrible drought and water is a big/serious problem on the moment Lots of people stop here just to use our facilties and put us under a lot of pressure regarding water supply etc. Sorry for the inconvenience but the problem will be sorted out soon.

We stopped at Oppi Vlak enroute back from Buffelsbaai to Pretoria. What a great stop it was. The outside bathrooms was very welcoming after sitting in the car for such a long time. It’s also quite an experience. Take it for what it is: an outdoors bathroom in nature. The breakfast rooster koek was sublime & I highly recommend it. My mouth waters just thinking of it. You won’t be disappointed. Service is great. Thank you to the owners for creating this little oases between nothing & nowhere. Okay it just felt like this being in the car :)

Nourishing in so many ways. The petting animals are a delight to touch and cuddle. The Roosterkoek menu has something for every one to choose for a meal or share for a snack. The longdrop toilets are neat and clean and well maintained. There are lots of goodies on sale in the little shop. The local Kalhua and Amarula fudge is a must buy. Make sure to buy extra - they disappear quickly when the packet is opened.

This is a stopover to look forward to between Aberdeen and Willowmore. The food and coffee will refuel you and the lovely staff will make you feel right at home. Take a minute to read the lovely little signs welcoming customers and walk about the animals to stretch your legs. You will leave refreshed and ready for your journey.

Amazing service, amazing food. and an amazing experience! If you want to go somewhere unique out in the boonies, this is the place for you! A variety of animals (even those that are exotic) roam the facility as you walk in to the gates. As you make your way into the store you will find literally EVERYTHING. One bite of the Rosterkoek will melt your heart and have you shouting hallelujah! 5/5 for being amazing!

A beautiful "padstal" with the friendliest people, showing you the value of "plattelandse" hospitality. We always stop, and we have always been made to feel right at home.
