Lunch turned into dinner at this charming gem of a place in Nieu Bethesda. The pizzas were made and served with passion by the owner, Ludolf. It was a long weekend and this place is popular, so we booked a table in advance to try out their perfectly crispy, thin-based pizzas topped with some unique toppings , Venison, Thai chicken, bacon and guacamole. Whether you’re on a first date, looking to catch up with friends, or just coming off a hunger-inducing wander around the village, Bruno’s offers a warm welcome with great hospitality, play area for the kiddies and of course delicious pizza !

When we travel through the Eastern Cape we never miss going to The Bethesda guesthouse and their onsite restaurant Bruno's at the Bethesda. We stayed on May fro the wine stoep tasting festival. Not to be missed..... and in early August again and we were lucky to find Bruno's open as during the winter low season they only open on specific weekends and this time our luck was in. As we stayed at the Bethesda for the weekend we had a Friday dinner and Sunday lunch that were both true karoo feasts. Especially their Venison pizza and their Sweet Bacon & guacamole pizza and and May we had their Karoo Lamb stew....which was amazing.....

Bruno’s has been associated with pizza since the 1990’s – when Bruno Reolon opened it. It has seating inside between white washed walls, or outside. Mostly pizzas are served, with a garden salad, desserts & coffees as extras. A “Karoo Tafel” or table, is served, but requires a reservation. The plant based, lamb curry and anchovy pizzas are my favourites – thin crusts and wood oven fired. The Karoo Tafel offers a hearty Karoo dinner with fresh, local ingredients, including dessert.
Ideal for a relaxed Karoo dinner.

This is the place for pizza - with seating inside between white washed walls, or outside seating perfect for summer evenings. Mostly pizzas are served, with a garden salad, desserts & coffees as extras. The plant based, lamb curry, Thai chicken and meaty (soutvleis & salami) pizzas are best. Toppings are generous, crusts are thin and crispy and these Karoo pizzas are served with loads of fresh herbs. The owners visit each table personally and service is friendly. Ideal for the best pizza!

We settled with drinks on the terrace underneath the pink Karoo sky. Once inside, we enjoyed the atmospheric building with its white washed walls, candle light and the soothing rain outside. Our table shared a focaccia – crisp, not overtly flavoured with garlic and delicious. Then followed an array of pizzas – Karoo lamb, Thai chicken, Kudu salami and Anchovy pizza – all served with fresh herbs on thin, crisp bases and were generous in toppings. Friendly service ensured a relaxed evening.

We had the best pizzas ever - the bases are perfectly thin and have a perfect consistency and the toppings are to die for. The building has been beautifully restored and authentically decorated. The staff were also extremely friendly and efficient. Our favourite pizzas in the world!

Crazy about pizza, we opted to try Bruno’s in Nieu Bethesda. The bases offered a good crisp bite. The sauces were savoury with bright notes and the toppings and herbs were vibrant and fresh, baked with a generous amount of cheese. The premises are an open floor concept, where you can take a sneak peek at the food being prepared. Ludolf and Carla, the owners looked after us and cooked us one of their speciality pizza, the spicy Lamb, it was incredible. Lovely little pizzeria in a beautiful setting!

This Nieu-Bethesda institution continues to deliver – great value, friendly service and lovely atmosphere during Stoep Tasting 2024. We opted for Karoo Pizza, like one should at if you visit here, with a deep red wine. What a feast! The original Bruno Reolon’s legacy continues. Tasty and flavourful pizza followed by great filter coffee. Do make a point to visit the undergound, brick dome cellar too. Always a winner at Bruno’s. Ideal for an authentic Karoo experience.

Finding Bruno’s on our first night in Nieu-Bethesda was a great start to our time here. Having eaten my fair share of vegan pizzas I can honestly say that I have found the winner. Fragrant, fresh, wholesome and tasty, the vegan pizza at Bruno’s blew me away. Coupled a gorgeous and relaxing setting, kind service and lovely wine, Bruno’s is a must when visiting Nieu-Bethesda.

The best pizza I've ever had... is what my daughter said when she just had the Margarita. I must agree with her and we all had different pizzas and they we are all fantastic!! The lamb curry was sublime and Thai Chicken magical.
What a hidden gem in the middle of this magical little dorp.

We had such a fabulous evening under the stars at Bruno's. We ate delicious pizzas (and I don't even like pizzas!) in the beautiful courtyard before spending a night in the most sumptuous room at the The Bethesda. The whole experience was so surprising and wonderful, next time we'll be staying in NB rather than rushing to the coast!

We had an amazing meal in a very quaint courtyard. I had a lamb curry pizza, which was delicious. It was a prefect stop for our first night- Carla gave us genuinely great recommendations around Nieu Bethesda. The wine selection was great and there was a puppy so all round a winner.

Beautiful small village with friendly people and a lot to do and see!. The Bethesda and Brunos was an absolute treat! From the moment we arrived till the moment we left we felt special. I would advise anyone to take the time and venture off the beaten path to discover this absolute gem!
Bruno's pizzas was of the best we've ever had!

This is a lovely, relaxed spot where we enjoyed a hearty breakfast (with homemade bread) after our night at The Bethesda and a delicious "Karoo" pizza for a late-night snack. Good wine, good food, and the most beautiful wine cellar venue!
