Nestled in Kareedow's main street, The Sweaty Dutchman, curated by the welcoming Hans Pragt, offers a delightful haven. Hans's warm hospitality infuses the charming ambiance. Indulge in the menu's delicious pancakes and savor one of the best cuppas on offer. Accessible via the serene R62 road from Humansdorp or George, this gem rests peacefully in the Kouga mountains. Enhance your visit by exploring Kareedouw's renowned butchery, making it a special journey through picturesque landscapes and culinary delights at The Sweaty Dutchman.

The Sweaty Dutchman serves really good coffee and as a visitor through the town, Hans makes you feel right at home. I felt nostalgic eating a pancake filled with preserved peaches (with preserved peaches always being a dessert treat at my grans house). And the pancakes are definately larger than what I'm used to. We really enjoyed it.

We stopped at The Sweaty Dutchman in Kareedouw on 21 March - public holiday on our way back to Uniondale. We were well received, good menu, excellent breakfast and the Dutch pancakes are the real thing - sweet and savoury. The lady who served us was tentative and the owner came around and we had a lovely time. He allowed us to have our puppy (on a leash) close to us as well., we sat on the outside verandah with view over the landscaped garden. All in all a very positive experience, will stop again. I also bought the best shortbread in decades made fresh by the restaurant.

Hans and team has a gem of a place in Kareedouw. It is our daily stop for coffee and pancakes when on holiday.
You can’t go wring with pancakes and also do try the Dutchman’s Special Iced Coffee.
It is also the only place where we have dessert after breakfast!

With a name like the Sweaty Dutchman, we didn't know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised.
Hans is the owner, and he came and chatted to us while we perused the menu. We chose the Uismijter and the pancakes of course
The fire added to the ambience of the place.

What a pleasant surprise! We had amazing breakfast, outstanding Uismijter and best pancakes we ever tasted. To add to our experience we had good friendly service, cozy atmosphere and toilets were nice and clean. Excellent and worthy stop!

Very rude owner, confrontational in front of clients/guests, just because my 11 year old son used his toilet facilties without buying anything from him, our first stop from Cape Town, first impressions last, he will never see me or my family at his business. Disgusted in his approach in front of his clients/guests.

The most incredibly delicious, rare Nastergal
Dutch Pancakes! Fried in pure butter. You have to stop and try them on your drive along route 62.

What a lovely experience! The service was so friendly and the pancakes delicious!!! I had one filled with ice cream - even the ice cream was homemade. Would recommend stopping there when passing through Kareedouw.

popped in for a take away coffee - after asking whether they would be able to help, used the facilities. 10 minutes after ordering the owner barked at me that he needs to serve his customers first, I'll have to wait.
I appreciate that a single take away coffee is not a priority, but he could have been more gracious in how it was handled.
I won't be back

I had heard such good reports about this restaurant that we were determined to visit even if it was just for a coffee. There was a pleasant outdoor area at the front, but very close to the main road - as it was very windy we went inside. Inside, it was cosy and warm, with a enclosed stove. It was quite busy and obviously popular with the locals - always a good sign. Service was good, if a little slow. Our coffees and teas were good - decor was quite 'dutch' as might be expected from the restaurant name which some find 'off-putting' - I find amusing. No sign of any sweaty people at all! Enjoyed the experience.

Four of us en route from Wilderness to PE and looking for a stop off point for coffees. Came across this place on google and it was just perfect. Really excellent coffees and superb pancakes. Had a great chat with the owner, Hans and have to compliment him on having a very fine establishment. Her’s also a really cool guy with great staff. Literally 10 mins off N2 before Clarkson heading towards PE
