My husband and I visited the Oestafel for supper last week while visiting Wolseley. Despite the covid ban on alcohol sales, the 9pm curfew (which had everyone depressed!) and only one staff member on duty, we enjoyed the food, which was tasty and timeously served....Our waiter, despite being the only one on duty, was attentive and very friendly. The only thing I would critique was that the pumpkin in the salad was cold and watery, but the rest of the food was very tasty and we enjoyed the overall experience. We would definitely come back in future.More

Used to be one of my favourite stops in the Ceres area but what a bad experience. When we got there, could see that the staff were a little bit run off there feet but thought it was due to the extreme weather. When we...tried to order there Sunday lunch special, were told that the kitchen staff did not pitch or those that did pitch, still drunk from the previous night drinking. Seeing that we always had good service and good food, we thought that the "Manager" had everything under control. Ordered drinks, told the fridge is broken so no cold drinks..... After waiting for about an hour for our food, it arrived, ice cold...... I sent mine back to the kitchen but hubby said his to hungry, going to give it a try, gave up after 2 minutes, fatty ice cold ribs..... After waiting again for about 30 minutes, we decided to leave; this is after two other tables already left (10 people in the two groups). When we wanted to pay for the drinks, the waitress insisted that we pay for the rib meal which we said we won't, please call the manager. We were then told that she left, cannot cope with the staff and told them to sort out all the clients. Just as a matter of interest, while all this happened, a couple walked in, sat down, grap their own menu, man got up and went to buy drinks at bar directly. When I asked the waitress if she is aware of the two tables that left and of the new table that just walked in, she immediately blamed the kitchen for the fact that she did not know what is happening in her section...... Needless to say, Oestafel Bistro won't see us again.More

Oestafel Bistro used to be an old favourite when I still had a weekend home in the area. So, upon my recent visit to Tulbagh I had to make the small detour to rekindle old memories. Was so happy to see Karien - who was...meeting and greeting every single guest and making sure everyone was happy. We stopped for a quick coffee, but was enticed to try the Sunday lunch special. Rich, creamy mussel soup, great lamb pie and a nice sweet ginger pudding like grandma use to make it. Sad to see our old favourite - that special pizza with the onion and boerewors - is no longer on the menu - but perhaps we will see it again in summer time! The setting is still as spectacular as ever - just a pity we missed all the snow!More

After a glorious morning enjoying the snow we made the mistake of stopping here for lunch. They were open for business but not packed considering all the traffic heading to the snow. Everything took a very long time - getting menues, placing drinks, receiving drinks,...handing over the meal order which I took and just handed over the slip. Almost an hour later when we asked where the food was the waiter said it’s just gone on... 20min later he came back to say the porkneck burgers are out of stock. The kids fish fingers and burgers arrived almost an hour and a half after placing the order. The 2 French Stews never arrived! The kids got bacon pizzas instead of cheese pizzas, attached is the pizza the vegetarian girl got that was still raw dough. The owner disappeared after struggling to sort out the neighbouring tables issues - we never saw her again. Apparently she ordered another lady to come put out fires. The waiters were all over the place but trying! Something went wrong in the kitchen but no one could give a straight answer! They knew they’d be busy due to the snow. What other excuse can they come up with..?? Bad management!! Gorgeous setting so really unfortunate. Better cell reception would mean more bad reviews for sure - people could vent while sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting!!More

We had a family function here, and the pizza was very very good. A lot of very interesting topping combinations, served with a smile, and a cold drink, made it a great evening.

We stopped here fro lunch when heading back to Cape Town after a weekend in the Koue Bokkeveld. We all had burgers, pork, chicken and beef and all the burgers were really great and tasty and served with chips which were also very good. It...was very busy so the burgers took a while but the waitress was friendly and attentive and the burgers were well worth the wait.More

I was hesitant to review this bistro after the scathing and unprofessional reply I received from the owner for my review of Capish, which I stand by. Every restaurant can have a bad day, mishaps happen and perhaps an owner is not always privy to...them.The owner was not there on the day but I certainly was. It is never my intention to deliberately hurt any restaurant's reputation and I always consider my reviews very carefully but I will also not sugarcoat my experiences. Having said that - we had a very delicious breakfast at this Bistro and the little wait for the Shakshuka was totally worth it. We tried both the bacon and the chorizo option and loved them. The coffees were really great too and I am very happy that we stopped there. Our waiter was alone but did his very best to serve everybody as quickly as he could. Highly recommended.More
