In a fit of stupidty, we booked a weeks holiday at Challaborough Bay Holiday Park and endured a few days of well below average food from their Waterfront Restaurant. We decided we must find somewhere else to eat nearby and Journeys End Public House came up on a Google search. We arrived for 6pm, to be told by a member of staff that they were fully booked already. I held back the tears and in the corner of my eye I saw an angel appear, her name was Ella! Ella said to give her a minute and she would check something, she returned and said we could eat in the conservatory, so we followed her and sat down to eat. The menu was very inviting, we loved the fact that the chef had spent time in Asia, his Thai dishes looked amazing. Myself and my wife went for the Thai beef, my father-in-law went or the fish and chips! We spend much time in Thailand ourselves and every mouthful of the Thai course left us feeling ike we were back there, it was simply amazing, in fact probably one of the best meals we had enjoyed in the last decade! Every flavour was present, the amount of beef was plentiful. Simply superb and highly recommended! The fish and chips were also superb, the fish was as white as could be, the batter so crispy and fresh, the chips were real homemade chunky chips, with mushy peas and tartar sauce and a quarter of lemon, so much fish for such great value! Ella was an absolute star, wonderfully polite and an absolute credit to the place. We will be back!

My partner and I had a fantastic visit to the Journey’s End Inn today. They were incredibly accommodating to my partner’s dietary requirements (gluten, soy, and allium free) with great communication between waiting and kitchen staff. The food was delicious and very well priced for the quantity. A big thank you to Mia for fitting us in and looking after us so well, we will definitely be returning.

Whilst on a scenic costal walk n the South Hams we came across this amazing pub hidden away in a picture postcard village with thatched stone built cottages. Dating back to 1300 this pub oozed all the charm and character you would expect and more, but the young front of house team were more than up to the challenge of 21st century service expectations with a friendly welcome and attentive service. It was lunch time and the bar menu was more than ample and I went for the sausage and mashed potato with onion gravy - absolutely delicious and probably the best I've ever tasted. With well kept beers, affordable prices and a relaxing atmosphere it would have been very easy to stay longer but the walk beckoned and I had to return to the 21st C but we will be back.

We both started our dinner at around 8.15pm with a glass of wine; one white, one red. The white was served at room temperature (because we were told the cool wine had been drunk at lunchtime!). We were offered some ice cubes to add to the glass; nice dilution effect! Whilst waiting at our cosy table, we noticed how dirty it was; cracks in the woodwork were full of detritus, the surface was sticky. Our main courses (fillet steak/ mussels) were of good quality, well cooked but somewhat over-seasoned. However, the chips were limp and soggy; the potatoes were blemished. The worst chips ever! We didn't get a chance to order a dessert or coffee as our waitress had disappeared without notice. On paying the bill, we noticed that we had been charged for an extra glass of wine that we had not ordered. In all, this was not the birthday celebration that we had planned in patronising a local, atmospheric pub

If you are not needing gluten free I would definitely recommend this place. however despite informing upon advance booking that one of us was coeliac they were very unprepared and the waitress did not understand what coeliac disease was - thinking that cornflour and sesame oil is a no go when in fact it is fine and egg noodles would make me ill and I’m fine with rice noodles. This lack of knowledge made me very nervous to eat and not enjoy the experience as I could have done. Shame as what we had was nice and the fear of whether what I was eating was fine or not did put a dampener on my husbands birthday lunch out. I know it can be a pain but it’s much easier for the waitresses to know what meals can be adapted to gf in advance or listed on the board without either a busy kitchen being asked or the customer having to guess the ingredients.

Really, really disappointed. This place touts itself as somewhere to call in while walking on many of the excellent coastal routes in the area. Nowhere does it state that meals must be booked in advance, nor does it give an option to do this online. The website and sign on the door state it is open and serves food 1200-1400 daily, they don't state that advance bookings are required. We had planned to finish a perfect long walk with lunch at 1330 at this pub, only to be bitterly disappointed when we were told they were full and we should have booked. Looking at people's attire, the pub was full of people who'd clearly just driven there - very energetic. There's plenty of other good pubs in the area that don't require booking or offer a means of doing so online, so I suggest use these instead e.g. Oyster Shack at Bigbury or Dolphin Inn at Kingston.

We had lunch here yesterday and first time for ages. I first came to this pub as a child and it's still amazing, really olde worlde and in such a pretty spot surrounded by thatched cottages with beautiful gardens. The food, although not a big choice, was cooked to perfection, the two young ladies who served us were delightful, charming and very helpful and the atmosphere was absolutely superb. Hats off to this place. We wont leave it so long to come back next time.

We were fortunate to be given a lunchtime booking at last minute, feeling very excited about tasting their food we were disappointed that the only offerings were sandwich/burger based with chips, wraps or bowl of mussels, not what we were expecting, we had heard that this would be a fantastic seafood tasting experience, but alas this was not the case. We accept that there may well be reasons for this like staff shortage or maybe we weren’t clear when booking. We will however state, the service was good (although a bit slow) portions were very good and tasty, prices very reasonable and it’s well worth the visit (but do book in advance). Next time we are in the area we will book and hopefully experience the seafood delights that everyone is raving about.

Popular pub with charming if slightly inexperienced staff (the norm everywhere post Brexit and Covid). The menu is unusual. There are Asian influences with things like giant bowls of noodles which seem popular. Then the ubiquitous overpriced steak and lamb options. A Chinese crispy duck thing and garlic toast/salad options. Odd. But different. Half a lobster with chips was tempting but there are better places to have seafood (try the Oyster shack). The bar menu is safer territory and we opted for buttermilk chicken burgers with avocado and bacon. Very good despite the absence of avocado. They were fully booked for days - the most annoying thing was sitting near the ancient phone which rang every few minutes very loudly. Dessert was frankly awful - a hazelnut tiramisu that was 90 percent heavy unsweetened cream and a small base of dry sponge. We gave up. Despite all of that I liked the pub more than the review suggests as it has a nice vibe and some of the food looked and tasted great. More like 3.5/5 tbh.

Well worth making a detour, even a long detour, to seek this old inn out ! Nice that they have married a very old pub with more modern facilities and a beautiful beer garden at the back. We just had sandwiches and soup, but what sandwiches and soup ! I had the wild mushroom, cheese and spinach soup, sublime and served real hot, and probably one of the best rare beef sandwiches I've ever had, with the freshest of local bread. My wife and sister went all American of a sudden, and wanted this sort of salad and that sort of salad in their ham sandwiches. Again, no problem, the nicest of front of house explained. Super, super friendly service, you won't be disappointed in finding this gem of a place.

The Journeys End Inn had been recommended to us, but sadly we were disappointed. The service was good and the pub has a great atmosphere however the meal was disappointing The food is all well cooked but the menu lacks choice. Either v large portions of traditional fare like fish and chips and burgers or alternatively Asian inspired dishes.. it would be nice to have had simple well cooked fish. If you have a chilli allergy beware, most dishes contain chilly even the burgers had a side relish of chilli.

We visited this pub for a Sunday Lunch on recommendation from several families who had had excellent experiences. With most places in South Devon, you do need to book a good few weeks in advance, mainly to avoid disappointment, so we did book a month or so ahead of our visit. The pub is tucked away in a little village called Ringmore not far from Challaborough and Bigbury, with the car park at the top of the hill and then you walk down the narrow village streets where you will find it nestled in on the right. On arrival as a big party we were seated in the Conservatory which was light and fantastic, the main pub was very cozy and had a very welcoming feel. We ordered had excellent service from a variety of staff members and the food was out of this world! Many of us in the party had ordered the duck leg starter with pancakes and hoisin sauce which was by far the best starter we have ever eaten, others had the hot soup which was equally as delicious. For the main cause we all had a Sunday Roast, either beef or pork. The portions were spectacular, and the Yorkshire pudding were so tasty! All of the roast came accompanied with side dishes of a variety of vegetables which was great. Unfortunately we were all so full, we never managed a pudding, but we will definitely return for one of those in the future! Highly recommend this South Devon hidden gem!

We were doing a circular walk from Bigbury-On-Sea and arrived at the Journeys End about 2pm. This was about half way round the walk. I’d read great reviews on TA and we’d worked up an appetite. Imagine our disappointment when we arrived and found you have to book a table, even at lunchtime. However, the staff felt sorry for us and the chef soon rustled up an excellent fish and chips for us. It was lovely. The staff were very pleasant and we were made to feel most welcome. So my recommendation is that you always book a table here, you’ll not be disappointed.

There are a few places in Devon that are worth the 45 -60 minutes road trip to get to and Journey's end is one of them. It may be difficult through the single lanes and really tight in a few places, however, the food is worth it, the staff are worth it and the journey is worth it. Good hearty food served very quickly and there is lots of it. The Sunday roast is one of the best you find in our opinion.

Wonderful old pub, loads of character. Family meal for 8 people and all the starters and mains were fantastic. Reasonably priced and really generous portions, if some of the party had to take boxes of food home (they refused to waste it) very highly recommend
