Very good pub food at very reasonable prices. Chiddingly is off the beaten track so the pub has to do something to attract punters. Load 'em high and charge then less and you can see why there were plenty of punters on a weekday lunch. How many pubs serve a decent Ploughmans for £9.50 these days? More cheese than Waitrose! Didn't have a pie but from the look of them they were a serious meal, again at a decent price. Fantastic value for money. Good parking and great for the dog.

I was very surprised to read the most recent unfavourable review. I chose the Six Bells to hold a wake because it’s close to the Wealden crematorium and sounds lovely. An excellent choice. Friendly, helpful staff, a beautiful room with beams and big wood fire, a really generous buffet, for which we paid the modest charge of £13 a head. The food was delicious and they catered for specific dietary requirements. It was very cosy and we didn’t feel rushed in any way. Can’t wait to go back in happier circumstances. Thank you, Six Bells

A group of four of us attended on a Monday evening and enjoyed four excellent meals. The steak and ale pie and chicken and mushroom pies were full of meat and flavoursome and the ham hock melted off the bone. The pub had varied decor which added to the interest. A big back garden, plenty of parking and a great place for a meal out.

We took a friend down memory lane (after nearly 40 years away] and we weren’t disappointed. We all had something different for lunch - generous portions of great quality, tasty, fresh food at very reasonable prices. It was busy for a weekday and all the food coming out looked really tempting. If you’re looking for a proper traditional country pub with friendly, welcoming staff then look no further. We couldn’t understand the negative reviews we saw on Trip Advisor, so had to put the record straight.

stopped in for lunch last Thursday, we arrived around 12.00 and within 1/2 hour the pub was busy, local beers on tap, i can recommend the Golden tipple from the Long man brewery. The staff were lively and friendly, always a good sign. my father in law and i both opted for the pork loin on mustard mash {specials board} which was lovely. i am never dissapointed when i visit this pub and look forward to a return visit soon as does my father in law who had never been before {shocking i know}.

April 2022. I enjoyed a lovely meal here with my family in the middle of the week. All of the food was delicious, very generous servings and was served very quickly and prices are reasonable with a decent and varied menu which provides for vegans and other dietary requirements. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. It's a lovely old and typical quaint English village pub with tons of character. Obviously very popular as half an hour after we sat down it became very full. It has several different rooms where you can eat in some comfort. It has several tables in the garden, an open fire and large car park. We shall definitely be returning again.

The pub was warm and inviting and we were greeted quickly and shown to our reserved table. There were Covid-19 measures well in place and everything was notably clean. Our drink orders were taken and served quickly, and although we waited a good while for our food, it was worth it as you could taste how fresh it was. The food was delicious and portion sizes were great. Overall we had a very pleasant experience here and really enjoyed the atmosphere and interesting items used as decor throughout the place. We will definitely come back here again. Thank you :-)

I went whilst staying with friends in the area, first time in 40 years, and found this fabulous pub still retained its wonderful character and ambiance. Even though the weather was fine it was a little cool and the fire was soon roaring away. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very very good, I had the best ploughman's in a long time. Both the meals my friends ordered from the varied menu arrived piping hot and looked delicious. The beer was great and I almost felt like I'd just been last week not in the mid 80's! Definitely worth a visit.

We we’re staying in the local caravan park which was 5 minutes walk from the Six Bells. Visited 3 times and had some great chats with both the bar staff and locals when the pub was quiet. The decor in the pub is unique every wall covered in old metal signs along loads of trinkets and paraphernalia. Sunday lunch on a lovely sunny day when the pub was full, the atmosphere was brilliant with families and bikers enjoying the Easter weekend. Ordered two of the crispy belly pork…Wow… 3 huge ribs with a pepper ratatouille on the side along with two garlic breads. Delicious 😋, too much food for us so we took 3 ribs away for later. Stayed for nearly three hours chatting to people on other tables who come here on a regular basis. We will definitely return..👍

We have been coming to The Bells for 30+ years to see bands, celebrate big birthdays, meet mates, between lockdowns etc Used to come over on the bike and but now by car as have family locally so we have been 3-4 times in recent months It's about time I said how excellent this pub is...the staff are always cheerful, welcoming, work very hard, pull an excellent pint and the food is reliably freshly made (it looks different every time...no packet meals here). Firm favourite is macca cheese and cannelloni. Often things are not available but never a problem as plenty of tried and trusted choice and specials on the board. Had the ribs this time with salad which they changed as should have been garlic bread ..so good I had to take a photo 😋😋😋. Keep on doing what you do and we will keep coming back to one of the best local pubs in miles.

As visitors to the area, we visited this pub last Friday (30th April) and had a nice lunch and a couple of drinks. We phoned the next day to book a table for Sunday lunch. The person on the phone said “we are not doing reservations, it is first come first served”. So Sunday lunchtime we made an effort to arrive before opening as the weather was looking to be wet. We got there and went to get a table under cover (there were at least 18) but everyone was reserved. We got a distinct impression that locals were getting the under cover tables with visitors sitting in the open. The staff seemed to have a bad attitude and didn’t care so we left. Would not recommend.

A local pub - in a relatively unpopulated rural area - perpetuating good happy friendly rural service for decades. Reliably excellent reasonably priced pub food, well kept beer, good live music (in a very seperate area) and always thoroughly clean despite being an oldy worldy beamed pub with brick and boarded flooring. Dog friendly and somehow the place attracts the sort of customers who do stuff (vintage car and tractor enthusiasts, dog and horse trainers/breeders, musicians, artists (even Picasso visited once)… If only other pubs could appreciate what makes a good happy pub tick.

Attempted to go for a drink today, sun was out and a local band was playing. All outside seating was occupied so found a seat inside, sadly despite asking if we could bring our e-bikes inside and being told yep no problem by one member of staff another got exceedingly shirty an told us to remove them. This was after about 20mins. Luckily there was a empty bench outside the front of the pub so we removed said bikes and sat there. Another 15mins or so went by still no-one came to take our order(table service only) my wife went in to to remind them we were there only to be told cant you see we're busy she explained we had waited over half an hour and was told they would be out in a minute. 45mins later still no service so we left. Its probably a nice pub on quiet days or if your a local as the staff only appear interested in them. Very poor show

What a gem of a pub. So quaint. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was just what a country pub should be - warm and welcoming. There was a lovely log fire burning which added to the atmosphere. Plenty of outdoor seating when the sumner arrives. Small car park but ample street parking. There was a good varied menu with a good vegetarian selection. We had the Stilton and walnut pie, which was lovely. The food was fresh and well cooked with very generous portions. Would highly recommend this pub for all, whether family, friends or couples.

Came here after visiting Lee Miller's house down the road, and what a great place The 6 Bells is. Was busy with diners and drinkers, but lots of tables tucked away in corners, and outside seating, so finding a table was not a problem. Great menu, loads of choice, and the best plant based food options I have seen anywhere. Tasty home prepared food, lovely selection of drinks, and the building and decor was just like pubs used to be, full of pics and photos that were great to look at. Very clean, staff friendly and efficient. Thanks for a great evening.
