La Selva Cafe was one of the first coffee shops that promoted Chiapas coffee. Nowadays great coffee shops have flourished around San Cristobal making La Selva more of a traditional stop that the holy grail of coffee that it once was. I love to come...in and sit in one of the central patio tables, makes me want to talk if I'm with someone or just read for an hour or so before continuing the city walk.More

One of the original coffee places in San Cristóbal (that is why they were able to score such a lovely building, but at the same time stuck at some distance from main drag). Coffee is the best, order Americano La Selva, to die for! Worth...the extra walk, plus, its patrons are mostly locals. That tells you a lot.More

We didn't dine here, but stopped in to buy some ground coffee for ourselves and for gifts. Definitely not the most inexpensive coffee in town, but seriously tasty.

We don't hang out in the restaurant but, after trying coffee everywhere in San Cris, we always buy our beans here. They have a really good roaster and, if you like dark roast, I recommend "Selva tostada Cubana" which is the "Union de la Selva"...beans roasted the darkest that they sell. Other coffee places don't have really dark roast like this. Some other places burn the beans because the people roasting them aren't as conscious about what they are doing. At la Selva, they are always consistent. You pay a little more but it is worth it. The cookies are also good and the chocolate covered roasted beans are addictive- especially great for long drives. As far as getting waited on, the staff who sell and grind and package the coffee are very attentive but I don't know that this holds true at the tables.More

This is a café primarily, not a restaurant, though there are good choices for breakfast -- eggs fixed in many forms. Particularly good are the omelettes. My favorite is the extra large cheese- and vegetable-filled "chipilín tamal" typical of Chiapas. The old building with its...columned and landscaped patio is well kept, dishes and clothing of help tastefully chosen. There are many types of coffee to choose from -- all good.More

We had a very nice lunch and cappuccinos in the inner garden at Café La Selva. We had a fresh bagel and croissant with ham and cheese, and a nice guacamole. The bread was comparable to good European standard and the fresh salat showed out...to be safe to eat. After that we had two very well done cappuccionos. All in all a very nice meal with a good service. The café has WiFi.More
