Tuna Azul is not easy to find with a small doorway around the corner from Olas Atlas but once you find it and go upstairs it opens up to a nice second floor restaurant. Usually the owner, Roberto, is there to greet you and help you decide which menu items fit your mood. On our last visit my wife had the tuna poke tostado and I settled on the shrimp cucaracha. The tuna serving was large and the tuna very very good and a perfect size for lunch or a lighter eater and with a price of 70 pesos (about $4US) the best value for tuna this year. I decided to adventure out and ordered the cucaracha shrimp. The dish comes with several large shrimp with the heads on cooked in a wonderful sauce that was fantastic. This reminds me a lot of a variation of barbecue shrimp New Orleans style. This dish is the best shrimp dish I have had this year, and in the top three I have ever had here in the 30+ years I have been coming. I ordered mine medium heat, but there are three choices to select from. One caution, you will use a lot of napkins because it is deliciously sloppy. To accent the shrimp, it is served on four pieces of great French bread to help you enjoy and sop up all the wonderful fluids that come out of the head when you pull it off. We are here for three months and Roberto and his family will be serving us at least once a week, and have moved to our top 3 places to eat here this year. This is a cash only restaurant, but you won’t need a lot of cash to eat there.

It's upstairs and with open windows (which I love). First, the margaritas are very good; and I'm quite picky about my margaritas! Great service and I would highly recommend any of the shrimp dishes (I'm not a tuna person but I've heard their tuna is mind blowing!). It's small, and, like I stated quite lively ... you know, the kind of restaurant where all the tables wind up talking and laughing with each other! The reason I gave this a 4 instead of a 5 is because I had the lobster tacos (my fave) and there was hardly any lobster meat in them. I will definitely go back, but I will be ordering one of the shrimp dishes.

Lobster tacos?! Best tacos I have EVER had. These lobster tacos will change your life, and the fact that you can get 3 lobster tacos and a beer for a few bucks while sitting on a second story balcony overlooking the ocean and downtown puerto makes it all the better. Plenty of other good food to eat as well, but if you don't get the lobster first your missing out. Set among the cobblestone streets of downtown Puerto this place is a gem. Owner is there every day and he's great! We went here for lunch every day we could while we were in town. Fantastic!

Sometimes on vacation you stumble onto a place that just "seems right". Tuna Azul is simply that place. They don't try too hard it just comes naturally. The upstairs location is fantastic for people watching and the service staff keeps your drink full and the conversation flowing without being obtrusive. Roberto, the owner truly cares about your experience and has great recommendations if you get stuck in your dinner choice. On both visits we tried different items on the menu from simple tacos to fresh perfectly prepared tuna. Each person in our group (4 persons) found each meal to be fantastic. When leaving Roberto introduced us to his his Son who does the cooking and was clearly very proud of his Children and for us this brought a bit of loveliness to an already perfect night. Take time to visit this wonderful location, get a table at the balcony and let the good times and good food role. Be adventurous or conventional in your food choice, say hello to Roberto sit back and watch the world go by..... You simply can't go wrong at Tuna Azul.

We had the recommended tuna montadito, fried tuna tacos, coconut shrimp, marlin burrito, seared tuna, skinny classic margaritas, a beer, and at $85 US felt we received good quality and value. They are family owned and very gracious. I noticed that some patrons had condiments for their tacos and I would have appreciated that for our tuna tacos. I feel I should not have been charged for my requested pico de gallo for the tacos.

We had dinner at this restaurant on the last night of our vacation. We stopped by in the afternoon to look at the menu and ended up making a reservation with the owner. They have a happy hour between 5 and 6. We arrived before 6 and had a two-for-one traditional lime Margarita nicely rimmed with coarse salt before ordering our food. They gave us sweet potato chips with a tuna spread as a free appetizer, which was really good. Because we had reserved, we got a nice table around the outside of the patio which has a wonderful view of all the people coming home from the beach and the Malecon. The whole restaurant is on the 2nd floor so the view and breeze is lovely. The restaurant wasn’t that busy when we arrived, but filled up as we were eating our dinner especially the tables on the perimeter. I ordered the mixed fajita and could choose from chicken, shrimp or beef, or a combination of any of those. I chose the chicken and shrimp combo. My plate was sizzling hot and plentiful, served with 3 soft taco shells. My husband had the lobster taco and beer combo which was a daily special. We both enjoyed the food, although I got more food than my husband. The owner and servers were all very friendly and helpful. We would definitely return on a future holiday.

The owner of Tuna Azul met us on the stairs of the second floor restaurant. We were graciously seated at the rail over-looking the street. I had a couple of Palomas & my husband had a couple beers. The waiter teased him about being a two-fisted drinker when there was two beer bottles on the table. LOL! I ordered their delicious & huge shrimp tacos. They were so full that I had to eat some of the shrimp off the top with a fork before I could add guacamole & pick them up to eat them! My husband ordered three different tacos: grilled fish, pulpo, and stingray. They were all very good. But, I was really intrigued with the stingray taco. It was stewed & shredded & tasted very much like crab. The service at this little second floor restaurant was so friendly & professional. It was one of the few restaurants where we ate twice on our six week trip, last year. I can see us returning to it for a second visit, this trip.:)

My husband and I dined twice at Tuna Azul on our trip to PV. It’s that good. The food is freshly prepared and artistically presented, the service is impeccable (chances are, your camarero will be the owner!), and the view is wonderful. A must try!

If you fancy people watching and outstanding culinary delights, haul your Gringo bodies to Tuna Azul. Tostadas, tacos, etal, are superb. Lunch of garlic shrimp tacos and fish ceviche tostados followed by lobster tacos are without comparison. Cocktails? not shabby either. Final note to seductive dessert. Chocolate cake like flan with ice cream suggests a butterscotch richness. Yummy and rhe best place to observe locals and touristos, alike.

You honestly don’t need to know anything else about Tuna Azul. But if you must know more, know that you need to stop in here. The Lobster Taco deal is valid all day every day, and are well worth it. If I hadn’t spent the day eating my way through PVR I probably would have asked for another order of the special. But instead settled for a Marlin tostada, that was drowning in meat!! My only regret in coming here is that I forgot to order a stingray taco. I will say to watch out for solicitation, you think that being a second floor restaurant you’d be safe from the roaming vendors that you are bombarded by through out the boardwalk area and the rest of the town, but unfortunately that’s not the case. So be on the look out for a family of sales people interrupting your dining experience selling different knick knacks as souvenirs. **** CAUTION: CASH ONLY ****

Ate there for lunch right when they opened. Service was good. The breaded fish taco’s were luke warm and just okay. My husband and son had the lobster taco’s which they liked but small portion sizes for their appetite.

After waiting 45 min to get our meal(they weren’t even that busy either) meal arrived and my Chicharrones Pescado(fried fish strips) were completely burnt (black) and Mahi Mahi was on the cold side and tough. Salad was Olso delivered to table with no dressing and it took a while to get waiter to bring dressing. Waiter didn’t offer any water and he pretty much made himself invisible the whole time! Just terrible in every respect!

Excellent seafood in the heart of la zona romántica, we visited this place twice during our stay in Puerto Vallarta after trying a few other spots in the area. Tuna Azul became our favorite, the fish was so fresh and cooked to perfection. Big thanks to our server Roberto, montaditos and aguachile are a must try!

Great location. Food was very good, fresh and tasty. I order the seafood fettuccine it was a little watery but very tasty, I wish it was a bigger portion. The margaritas were very well served. I felt it was very well priced for the portions and quality of food.

Easy to miss, but you shouldn’t! Upstairs on Olas Altas before you turn right for the pier is Tuna Azul. I come here often for their shrimp and garlic tacos (served as 3 $100 pesos) and their freshly made guava margarita on the rocks. That and the service of everyone there Elias and other keeps me coming back again and again. Their menu has A LOT and for VERY reasonable prices and it all taste delicious. Great open air seating - I usually sit on the balcony type seating and people watch, usually ending up with 3 margaritas or so… give Tuna Azul a try!!
