We were staying at the Holiday Inn Express and choose to dine here in the evening. We were very well looked after by the gentleman on duty on the 15th October. Good selection of beers, wines & spirits. At time of writing this review, there...was a reduced menu in place which is understandable at this time of Covid-19. The menu is very reasonably priced. Very good physical distancing measures in place. Lovely ambience, great service and would certainly recommend.More

We were staying at the Holiday Inn and having eaten there the first night thought we'd try the Red Lion. Now, I appreciate we were in the middle of covid restrictions but only 4 choices of main with one of those being unavailable, I cannot...help think they could have worked a little harder. I opted for Sausage and mash (£16.50)!!! And the only veggie option left was mushroom risotto for the wife (which she wasn't crazy about😕). Other reviews on Trip make the place sound amazing and maybe I'm being a little harsh, so the wife and I will give them another chance and possibly return when the world returns to normal and the Red Lion restores the full menu.More

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express next door and went for an evening meal at The Red Lion, it was very busy inside due to a wedding party being in full swing, they had their own room but the bar was very busy. We...did get a table ok and was served by Natasha who was very friendly, she chatted and smiled the whole time she looked after us. Lucy also chatted and smiled. We had the fish and chips which were so delicious, followed by the chocolate brownie which was tasty and light, and served with an orange sorbet, we had a bit of a wait for the dessert but that was understandable. Even though it wasn't a quiet environment, we enjoyed the evening very much.More

It's was approx £17 for an afternoon tea for 2. We went on a Saturday because I work in the week. There was a wedding reception and a birthday party, as well as a few others that turned up for afternoon tea. The car park...has signs saying you need to pay for parking, but you can register your car at the bar so you don't have to pay. This is unclear when you get there. The staff were lovely and attentive, and friendly. Unfortunately, because they were busy, I think they made the afternoon teas before we turned up. The sandwiches had gone stale around the edges, the scones were rock hard and crumbled as soon as you tried to cut them, and very minimal effort had gone into it. I wasn't expecting it the be amazing, because of the price I paid. But when I looked at the quantity and quality of the food, it wasn't really that good value for money at all. We had a sandwich each, 2 rock hard scones each, and a few desserts. This is a very old, beautiful pub, unfortunately surrounded by newly built buildings, like the hotel. So now the pub looks very out of place. Brilliant staff, poor food.More

I highly recommend this restaurant, the food and service was to an exceptional standard. Every staff member we faced were very warm, welcoming and couldn't do enough. The food was delicious we especially enjoyed the cheese fondue. One of the best valentine meals we've had,...we cannot wait to rebook for next year.More

We met with friends for a meal on Valentine’s Day, there was a special menu(!). Avoid at all costs the so called Cheese Fondu for sharing. We were presented with a luke warm bowl of thin cheese sauce a piece of stale bread cut in...to triangles and a small pot of cucumber and carrot batons. The sauce just dropped off the vegetables ( we weren’t offered plates), and had very little flavour. The chef obviously had never eaten or prepared a cheese fondue in his life. The rest of the meal was indifferent at best. Would never go back or recommend. I don’t usually complain about meals but this was dire.More

I visited on my lunch break to have some food and parked my car in the available spaces outside. There is free parking if you are to give your registration to the pub and they can log it in for you. I was not even...acknowledged for the first 10 minutes of me walking in, the staff were rude and ignorant. I decided to leave as the service was shocking. 10 days later, I received a parking fine for 12 minutes for £100. Due to not purchasing anything, I had no receipt so I had to pay it. After trying to appeal it, the pub was again not helpful and didn’t want to know. I will never be returning and I am ensuring that everyone that I know is aware of the awful service and extortionate parking charges. Disgusting.More
