Best Restaurant near Addo NP

Relaxed atmosphere, friendly service, if you come early it's even quick and you can sit outside (only few tables available), later on a bit slow... food was really excellent and tasty, nice beers and wines. Make sure you eat here on your way back from Addo to PE or lodge as it is conveniently located next to the main road

The food was spectacular. While the decor is a bit "golf estate club house" - but very well done, upmarket and tasteful - with switching off the downlights to soften the whole ambiance, it would be perfect. But, that is totally irrelevant as soon as your food arrives. The Tomahawk Rib Eye is insanely delicious. Cooked perfectly. Succulent. So full of flavour I ignored the side sauce. The smoothest, creamiest mash potato you could ever hope to find...absolute steak perfection. Others had pizza, fish, chicken schnitzel (which I would normally be hard pressed to praise - but here it is exceptional). And then a baked cheesecake with nuts, brittle, salted caramel sauce...and whatever else they added...to make the most addictive, moreish deliciousness you could ever dream up. Well done. (*if you paint the ceilings darker the light will be less harsh)

Excellent meals here, went twice

Visited Africanos twice over a weekend in Addo area and really loved it! I am usually wary of places with such a huge variety of things on their menu - but we were with a large group so this seemed like a good option. We sat outside as we had kids which wanted to roam free, and we had such an delicious meal! Everyone thoroughly enjoyed all their meals and the service was great. The place is neat, tidy and classy. We liked it so much we had lunch again before leaving the area. Very impressed, well worth a visit and reasonably priced. Most of our group had Sushi on the first visit, but second time around we had burgers and pizza's. Everything really tasty and well presented with big portion sizes! Always a winner! Will be back for sure when in area.

Less of Mike the Chef

We popped for dinner the other week. Restaurant was clean and welcoming. The decor is more like an office than a restaurant which is a little weird. The staff although helpful were lacking in knowledge about the menu. They also seemed quite fearful of the management... Unfortunately they don't cater for gluten free options and seemed pretty clueless about dietary needs. The pizzas where very good and well received. However the pasta dishes where served at the temperature of the sun. It was quite obvious that our dishes had been cooked by chef Mike. (The Microwave). For the prices you charge the dishes should be fresh and super heated. I don't think I will be back.

A surprisingly tasty gem!

The decor when we walked in seemed bland, so my expectations were not great! Boy were we surprised... 5 star quality food all the way. My only regret is that I didn’t get to meet the chef to offer my gratitude for his/her culinary skills. Highly recommended restaurant!

Dinner disaster

Where do I start.. appalling cocktails! No or grapefruit juice to go with vodka, only allowed in cocktails. No fresh fruits in cocktails. Our meals were subpar. Cous cous salad sent back to kitchen twice, missing 2 ingredients, but loaded with feta. Onion rings missing off the burger. Greek styled lamb chops were horrific, extremely overdone with no hint of anything Greek. At R220 it should have been next level. Our wine came out after our meal had been finished, without a wine bucket.. this was needed as the restaurant was so hot, due to the a/c not working. All the floor staff were trainees, they were doing their best, but felt so sorry for them. I would not recommend or return. Sadly lacking for choice in the area we were staying for restaurants.

Astonishing find

You simply don’t expect to find a venue of this quality in the locale. We needed a special event within striking distance of the top of Addo park for a 60th wedding anniversary lunch for 6 people, and based on reviews decided to take a chance. The welcoming team gave us a secluded table, beautifully prepared, and the service was exceptional. Every course was fresh, delicious, enormous, and delivered with expert timing; the menu is not fussy or pretentious, and satisfies all tastes. Hygiene standards were excellent throughout the extensive and immaculate venue, the music was discreet and unobtrusive, parking is secure and we had a fantastic experience. Heartily recommended if you’re anywhere near Port Elizabeth/ Gqeberha!

Amazing steaks

Steaks were amazing. They are basted with bbq sauce and chargrilled for a great crust and sear. Utterly delicious. Service was great. Atmosphere is a bit loud and bright; we were seated at a table in the lobby so dinner was just that, in an upmarket hotel lobby, but the meal was excellent. The light passion fruit meringue was a delightful finish. Very reasonable too for the high quality of the meal.

Visited the restaurant when our hotel informed us at the last moment they could not do evening food. So lucky they suggested eating here,the food was excellent,wide choice and very reasonable. The restaurant is spotlessly clean and the staff very efficient. We ended up having breakfast here for 3 mornings and 2 evening meals Highly recommend. Thank you.

A dining treasure

We were very happy to find this little gem in Addo. The food at Africano's hit all the right spots. The menu boasts a good range of dishes to choose from and the portions are generous and every bit as tasty as they are eye appealing. Our compliments to the Chef and staff for a job very well done!

A Christmas Treat without the treat!

We booked for the 2023 Christmas Lunch Menu and were sadly disappointed. While there was no shortage of food, the offering was uninteresting and unimaginative, reminding me of my days back at boarding school. Starter consisted of homemade bread that had started drying from standing out too long with a few slices of dry cheese and preserved fig. The biltong pate was delicious while the abundance of very yellow soft butter left you wondering if it was actually butter or margarine. The main course which consisted of 3 meats, over cooked chicken pieces, tough beef in gravy and pork belly (which was the highlight of the meal) accompanied by green beans that were flavorless, pumpkin fritters in sweet yellow sauce and roast potatoes left us wanting. Pudding consisted of two baked puddings with ice cream and custard also boarding school style but rather tasty and chocolate mousse which saved the day. All served canteen style in a large hall without any sign of Christmas which was not what we expected when we excitedly booked our Christmas treat.

Good day TravellingTrollip Thank you for taking the time to write us a review on your Christmas lunch experience. We are sad to hear that you did not enjoy the menu on offer. The selection on offer was as advertised and we can ensure you butter was served with Starters; we do not stock any Margerine in our kitchen. We do try and setup the Buffet stations with a little bit of Christmas spirit with Christmas music playing, Christmas tree setup, Christmas presents, Fireplace display on screen etc., we will review this setup for our next Christmas lunch. Fantastic restaurant. From the attention of the staff to the varied menu, including sushi specialties, the quality of the food and the quantity offered. And also worth highlighting is the modern and functional decoration of the dining room as well as the good prices. I would recommend the meat: very good.

Awesome place in Addo

Amazing service, great price, luxurious comfort. If you're looking for all the above the this is it. The rooms are ridiculously well appointed with nothing spared. The food is definitely prepared by proper chefs. Boring i know but the Snitzel is best I've ever had. Lamb also awesome. Staff are super friendly and helpful. If you don't spend a night here, you're missing out. Well done Africanos 👏

What a professionally run establishment, the staff are all very friendly and organized the Chefs are fantastic, never had a bad meal. Prices are great. All in all if you're in the area it's by far the best place to stay. Everything is on the property which is very convenient. Thanks guys top class.

Great food and excellent service

We were sent here from the Elephant house for our evening meals. We booked online to ensure a table. This is a restaurant in a local hotel/ resort. We were slightly limited being vegetarians as there were few options. However the pizza was amazing and the desserts were delicious! Service was really good and we were welcomed.
