We’ve eaten dinner here twice and will definitely go again when we sleep over in Colesberg in route to Joburg from George. Fresh hake dinner, lamp shanks and Bobotjie are all excellent and home made. Chicken liver starter also very good.
Our host at the Fancy Cactus recommended two eateries in Colesberg for our dinner. The first one was empty - not a good sign but the Platteland was almost full and it was early in the evening. Having chosen a table outside under a shaded...roof and our robust red wine ordered we looked at the extensive menu. Being in the Karoo lamb was a natural choice. I noticed something I had never seen on any menu and that was Roasted Lambs Tails! I hadn't eaten these since I was a kid on our farm. So without hesitation that was my starter much to the horror of my wife and granddaughter. They were delicious, tender and tasty. For mains my wife ordered the Lamb Chops and the 14 year old a burger while I went for the Lamb Shank. All were a resounding success.More
We just popped in for overnight dinner. Service was great. Food was nice as well. Our friends had Burger and said it was excellent. My mom had the Fillet which she enjoyed a-lot. We both agreed that the green beans was too peppery, but could...be a personal preference as I am not sure how it should be. For me the pumpkin fritters was too doughy, would have liked more pumpkin, but my mom said she enjoyed them. I had the bebotie which was excellent as well, although the rice was very very dry. Overall good experience and will return.More
Very limited menu specifically for people who do not eat red meat. Made the mistake of ordering Dom Pedros which took 30 minutes to arrive at our table. We appreciated the service of our waitress but the experience is one never to be repeated.
Well worth a visit - we had lamb chops, chicken schnitzel, beef burger and creme brûlée. Absolutely delicious food and the vegetables served with the food were so yummy. Service was excellent. Definitely recommend going.
Nice outdoor seating area. Service was fast and friendly.
Traditional South African meals.
We had babotie, lamb shank and lamb chops which can all be recommended.
It's worth the slight turn off from N1.
