Such a nice environment, really cosy! Friendly and helpful staff! Great service in such a small town. Excellent food. If you're a vegetarian please STAY AWAY and go complain about the lack of vegetarian dishes on another platform or better at a vegetarian restaurant...

We just popped in for overnight dinner. Service was great. Food was nice as well. Our friends had Burger and said it was excellent. My mom had the Fillet which she enjoyed a-lot. We both agreed that the green beans was too peppery, but could be a personal preference as I am not sure how it should be. For me the pumpkin fritters was too doughy, would have liked more pumpkin, but my mom said she enjoyed them. I had the bebotie which was excellent as well, although the rice was very very dry. Overall good experience and will return.

Our host at the Fancy Cactus recommended two eateries in Colesberg for our dinner. The first one was empty - not a good sign but the Platteland was almost full and it was early in the evening. Having chosen a table outside under a shaded roof and our robust red wine ordered we looked at the extensive menu. Being in the Karoo lamb was a natural choice. I noticed something I had never seen on any menu and that was Roasted Lambs Tails! I hadn't eaten these since I was a kid on our farm. So without hesitation that was my starter much to the horror of my wife and granddaughter. They were delicious, tender and tasty. For mains my wife ordered the Lamb Chops and the 14 year old a burger while I went for the Lamb Shank. All were a resounding success.

This restaurant was recommended in town. I ordered soup of the day which was vegetable great as I am vegetarian but I had to almost eat it with a fork ! So thick and lacked flavour. Spoke to manager and he was very disinterested. Chicken livers were unbearably hot even though we asked for mild. Second time we have been here Traveling through and definitely the last ! Shockingly over priced. Can go on and on 😡😡😡

Food was heated in the microwave and you could tell it had been frozen. Nothing is prepared fresh, they told us they make everything in batches beforehand. The afval was bland and tasted like dirt and the lamb curry was tasteless and tough. This place is overpriced and the food is not at all up to standard.

Nice outdoor seating area. Service was fast and friendly.
Traditional South African meals.
We had babotie, lamb shank and lamb chops which can all be recommended.
It's worth the slight turn off from N1.

Very limited menu specifically for people who do not eat red meat. Made the mistake of ordering Dom Pedros which took 30 minutes to arrive at our table. We appreciated the service of our waitress but the experience is one never to be repeated.

We had the Karoo platter and the lamb shank which both had sauces which had that out of packet taste. Meat quality was good but seriously needed the skill of a chef or cook with some know how.
Very expensive for what was delivered taste wise. The serving of malwa pudding was gigantic but was the worst we have ever tasted

Went first time when there was loadshedding & wife had lasagne which was obviously frozen & re heated she said it was rubbery & not nice at all. I had steak & chips with salad which was passable, but the couple next to us were raving about the lamb curry & rice so we decided that when we return we will give it a try...
Well to say it was a let down is a bit mild .. the lamb chunks were OK but the bones were awful & there was not even a hint of curry flavour more like a lamb stew what a terrible let down. Then to cap it all we both decided to try the whiskey don pedro WELL DON'T TRY THIS as it was also so frozen that we cpould not get through the icicles & left in disgust..

I've been here in 2019. Back then I order the Karoo lamb platter and this time I order the platter again - it is still as good as the last time.
And always order the veg options. Pumpkin fritters and creamed spinach.
The lamb curry is also a very nice choice with a "boer" twist on it.

We arrived just before 8pm to a warm welcome. The menu has a good variety of meals As we were wanting something meaty, we ordered lamb shank and lamb chops. The waitress happily swopped my rice for chips. The food was delicious, including the side chips and vegetables. The setting and ambiance of the restaurant is also delightful

What a wonderful experience en route back to Joburg. The venue is great, the team is great and the food was excellent. As a family we enjoyed lamb chops, lamb shank, bobotie and burgers. The lamb dishes were accompanied with delicious vegetables including pumpkin fritters! I am going to have to try and make them! Really lovely and happy place!

Once again blew my socks off. Never a disappointing meal at this quaint little restaurant. The decor is so farm like, the service is superb and the food is simply amazing. We at the lamb shank and lamb chops. When I’m Colesburg eat a lamb. The shank was melt in your mouth with the most amazing red wine sauce. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection. Medium with crispy fat.
The table next to us enjoyed the lamb pie special. It also looked delicious. Will be trying that on our way home

We stopped for a Sunday afternoon lunch while staying over at Gariep dam. Menu filled with many South African traditional favorite dishes like skilpadjies, skaapstertjie, afval and many more. When we arrived we were seated by the owner's son(10 years old) a when asked what he reccommend he answered immediately that anything lamb is their speciallity. I had the lamb curry and it was superb!! Definately worth a visit
