Highly recommended. We have been visiting Mseni for quite a lot of times the past few years and, I must say, it has gained quite a few points in our opinion during the last visit. Hannes, the manager, is very involved on the floor and it clearly shows. He is attentive, knows exactly what you ordered or what you drink and even gave me a beer on the house when my food was slightly delayed. He is very enthusiastic and the perfect host Visit this place soon, friends, otherwise you will only allowed as per reservation!!!

Stayed in Sodwana Bay / Galagwala Campsite (August 2021) . We were skeptical to be able to find this Mseni Lodge (on foot) and if it's open. To our surprise, it was very accessible (short walk from our motor camp site) and the staff was very welcoming with great service. The food was amazing (my family even ate the curry liver) with great variety and good seafood menu. Of course one could not miss a refreshing cocktail with the ocean breeze, watching school of whales in a distance splashing out from their blow holes. There was a private passage to the beach down to the Indian Ocean which was totally serene and you would feel like frozen in time. We visited Mseni Lodge twice in 3 days - once on the first day discovering with cocktail and snack, second time was a purposeful lunch (big table full of happy food and a very reasonable bill) and enjoyable afternoon then to the beach. It's a gem in a rather secluded camp ground/national park. Glad they were open during this difficult (Covid) time. (yes, people in South Africa were masked up and rationale). Highly recommended.

The Pina Colada & Blue Momo cocktails were delicious! Myself & my partner enjoyed an incredibly fresh & very tasty Seafood Platter (the prawns are a must eat!) We got some amazing sightings of whales & simply LOVED sitting in the tree top restaurant watching the view! The staff were so friendly, smiley & polite. The manager Hannes was extremely helpful when we wanted to go walk on the beach after our meal (thank you Hannes); there is an exquisite forest trail walk that goes all the way down to the sea dunes and onto the beach (just be careful not to slip when it is damp). You can hear the waves crashing from the restaurant, listen to the birds, walk the naughty monkeys & feel the forest breathing! We loved our visit to Mseni and would highly recommend visiting- they are situated inside the camp site area, follow the rather small signage into B campsite :-)

Without a doubt a 5 star: The drinks and starter were prompt, appealing and delicious - the Haloumi was stacked and the cocktail (and water) glasses chilled. The seafood platter was extraordinary - everything was cooked well. The seasoning and sauces complimented the fresh mussels and prawns rather than overshadowing them. The hake was battered delicately, leaving it fresh and tasteful rather than dripping in oil. The home made tartar sauce was creamy but again, not overpowering. The fragrant calamari and crispy golden chips were an apt finale to the main course. We finished with the apple crumble which arrived hot, sweet and rich, straight out of the oven. The ice cream alongside paired delightfully as it was not overly sweet. The hospitality was always responsive, warm and helpful, really making us feel like we were the stars of the show. I cannot pay enough compliments to do this restaurant and the whole of Mseni beach lodge justice. Let it suffice to say that our expectations were well and truly outstripped.

We often visit Mseni Lodge - this time for a special family occasion. It was a busy "long weekend" and we noticed that the restaurant was either understaffed/unprepared for the crowds. After the drinks order, we waited about 45 minutes before being served our milkshakes. Food was divine - we thoroughly enjoyed a variety of options on the menu: pasta, ribs, pizza, and seafood.

After years of not coming to Sodwana, our expectations of Mseni restaurant weren't great. We though it would beach very typical beach bar but it was recommended so we gave it a try...and our expectations were exceeded!! The place is so well taken care of and spotless.Covid protocols in place and there is a choice of seating to make you comfortable. Service was fantastic and very soon our "just drinks" turned into staying for dinner. They have a very nice selection of craft beers and drinks. The menu is extensive and priced mid range. Our food was good. We ordered and chicken and prawn combo and the hake & calamari. I was really impressed with the side salad having feta and olives and really made with care, the veggies were also great. Calamari was definitely the favorite, nice and soft tasty strips. The "negative" ..and this probably just comes from individual preference : the chicken was good but we perhaps were expecting more of a PeriPeri chicken then a roast one (Disclaimer: it did not state it was it was just from our expectation with 'Mozambique' style prawns and there was no definitive description on the menu) and we did notice afterward that additional lemon butter sauces could be ordered...again our own expectation. Chips and cocktails seemed to be more of the "premade" variety but this is to be expected in an establishment in the middle of nowhere. I did have a fantastic Long Island! I mention these just as a FYI and all things considered we would highly recommend going and enjoying!! We will be back!

It has always surprised me that one can't always get fresh seafood at restaurants by the SA coast. Then again, not all coastal areas worth visiting have or can support a fishing industry, or are located in a nature reserve. I was then pleasantly surprised to see the restaurant offer a lot more seafood variety than some 8 years ago. The service here is lovely. the location even more so, with great tree canopy and ocean views. Some of the menu is perhaps a bit too rich and best for bulking up in the wrong places. The place can get a bit rowdy over the holiday season with drinking fisher-man types from outside the lodge.

Breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, and dinner were all delicious, at great value, and served by staff with a smile everytime we went. And you can't beat that oceanview, where my fiance and I could literally see whales breaching whole we ate. We look forward to coming back!

We were excited to see line fish on the menu plus a huge seafood section so we drove through R130 worth of park tolls to the restaurant to eat fresh seafood. However, when we arrived we were informed that there was zero fresh seafood available and it was all frozen, line fish was also not available which was really disappointing since the restaurant is literally on the shores of the Indian Ocean. In the end we ordered the frozen hake and a pizza, both were average, no wow factor. The service gave the review an extra star, the team were really friendly and good to us. This restaurant would be challenging for anyone with mobility challenges, the parking is very far from the restaurant and up stairs.

Dear Catherine R, We are sorry to hear that you were disappointed. We are situated inside a protected marine reserve and no commercial fishing or harvesting & selling of seafood is permitted. Because of this, we must purchase our seafood from the best supplier closest to us, outside of the reserve. Despite our seafood being cooked from frozen, the majority of our guests really love our seafood meals. We're happy to hear that our team was friendly - thank you for your feedback!

Sodwana is short of restaurants with a view, and this one ticks the boxes - great views and good food. We ate there a couple of times, and the only comment would be inconsistent service - great the first night, very slow second. Did not detract too much from the experience though.

The restaurant at Mseni Beach Lodge is the place to eat in Sodwana. The chicken and prawn curry is probably the best curry I’ve had. The food is value for money. The beers are bitterly cold and include a good selection of craft beer varieties too. The staff are very friendly and efficient. This low key establishment with lovely sea views exceeds expectations.

We arrived at a KZN wild life camp called Mseni Lodge. We listened to all foreign accents from German to Brits to American and it dawned it’s August in Europe and families are travelling the world post Covid. Gratitude that they have come back to spend locally but sad that we no longer take pride in this beautiful heritage of ours. Anyway, a berry bramble gin and tonic and my eyes turn to the horizon to watch the whale spouts hoping one will breach and make my day. The baby whales breached and splashed their little big tales, the chicken livers and haloumi starters were to die for. I am happy, good food, good company and a bottle of champagne for sunset Mimosa’s. Life is for living and loving.

Went for drinks and some starters before dinner. The children had milkshakes and they were delicious. I had the house wine and it was good. We ordered a platter, focaccia and the haloumi starter. All was very good and the waitress very helpful and attentive. If you are up to it, go down to the beach, a tough walk but worth the view.
