A beautiful colonial Hotel. Built in 1862, it still retains the elegance of that era. The hotel overlooks one of the small quaint streets and is perfect for a G and T at sunset. They have 24 varieties of gin!

Great, friendly service. Food and wine were amazing, soft music and beautiful romantic setting. Had the most amazing salmon on cauliflower risotto.

I have had pork belly at many places but this one was absolutely fantastic! Definitely one of the better places to dine out in this area.

Being in the area and wanting a light lunch we decided to go to the hotel as we had been before. We both chose starters which were average to say the least. The service was slow and sloppy. Not like our previous visit and quite a disappointment.

This Royal Restaurant is a special experience: set in one of the oldest hotels in RSA, with a definite colonial feel to it. Lovely terrace with ceiling fans, old, comfy sofa chairs, just the place to sip your cocktails. The restaurant and lounge has big fireplaces, crackling fires blaze away, if you should go in the winter. The menu has... More

Sour oats, sacrificed tomatoes, eggs not done as requested. Out of 8 breakfast orders only 2 people did not complain. Service also very very slow.

I have eaten at this hotel previously, and enjoyed it. This time we just had G&T's on the stoep, overlooking the valley. Very colonial and very pleasant. Will go back.

Restaurants in Riebeek Kasteel need to be of a very high standard to successfully compete with each other. This one fell a bit short. The duck was tough, the foie gras was missing and the sweet potato clawingly sweet. Very friendly staff and a good carrot cake saved the evening.

The place gas a great big backyard for kids to play and a prcious antique bar and set-up. Staff are friendly and speak mostly english. Food is great. Unfortunately we've been there more than once and they did not have stock.

Description
Simplicity, imagination and quality of produce are key at The Royal. Head chef Francois du Toit (La Colombe, Manna Epicure) believes that food should be honest. If you say tomato it must taste like tomato, if you say fillet you should get the best our country has to offer. This philosophy together with the use of modern equipment (such as the use of Sous-Vide and Pacojet) results in creative but unpretentious dishes with "taste" as main ingredient.
