The restaurant meets all expectations which are triggered by its name. Excellent food, good wine list, very nice location, very friendly and knowledgable staff. Reservation is mandatory. The prices are on the higher side but definitely worth your money

We visited on Saturday night to celebrate my 70th birthday. We were seated at a small round wooden table with a watermark on the top. From the restaurants website : "Our stylish Belgium inspired restaurant delivers exactly what it promises: world-class food.. " "Experience a...piece of European grandeur and charm .... and first-class wining and dining. " We choose the restaurant because they are no 2 on Tripadvisor and that parking for disabled persons are available. The waiters wear bowties. The bare table did not have vinyl place mats as most of the other tables. I asked a waitress to set the table, who curtly told me that they do not put place mats on the round tables, only the square ones, and walked away. A restaurant of this class in Belgium would most probably have white table cloths. A waiter approached with two chunks of bread, in a small dish, which were placed on our bread plates with silver tongs. The two plastic wrapped pats of butter were left on the bare table. The bread was dreadful. Dense and wet. I would have preferred a crispy roll or a slice of decent bread.. It would have more elegant to leave the bread and butter in the container on the table. We ordered drinks and the following dishes : RUMP STEAK AAA Grade From our local butcher, 250g cut + additional sauce FISH AU GRATIN Kingklip, salmon and prawn mixed in a creamy, white wine sauce, topped with gratinated cheese. The dishes were not badly presented. My steak came with two vegetables. Both the beans and the carrots were virtually raw. There is a difference between not overcooked, and raw. It would seem that herbs, spices or butter are not over used in the kitchen. Just plain boiled vegetables. The steak was inedibly tough. Raw Steak has sinews and tendons which restaurants normally cut away. My steak on the on the outside on the underside had a layer of sinew which would have been clearly visible to the chef. I had tied two mouth fulls when a lady in black, the service manager, came over to enquire whether everything was ok. She looked at the steak and said that it would be replaced. I asked if a place mat was possible. I informed her that it was my birthday and that the food is disappointing. The steak was taken away and replaced with a better piece of meat. Once again no detectable seasoning. Placemats were found. The manager came over and scattered some small silver "Happy Birthday" charms on the table. I am 70 not 6 years old My friend ate half his seafood Au Gratin. I tasted a forkful. It had a distinct fishy taste. Fresh or well frozen seafood normally have a clean taste. At the end of the meal we declined the offer of a complimentary coffee as we couldn't wait to go back to the hotel in Gordon's Bay. On or way from the hotel we drove past The Spur, The Ocean Basket and Bossa. For half the price we would have eaten better at any of these chain restaurants.More

Flavor packed and hearty portions. Friendly staff, beautiful view and a menu with a lot of options. High quality crockery and cutlery as well. I would advise making a reservation to secure a table, especially if you want to sit outside. Only downfall is that...people smoke at the outdoor seating making it uncomfortable for non smokers.More

Five of us had a great meal here. Nkosana made us a warm welcome and looked after us very well. I had the prawns on mango and they were delicious. Two days afterwards, my friend is still talking about his oysters and sirloin steak! Wonderful...place, right next to our rented apt, so we went twice.More

De Brasserie is on the beach front in the Strand. Western Cape. A 5* experience from the moment you enter. An immediate warm welcome whether booked, which is advisable, or not. Bar facilities offered if waiting. A well balanced menu with tasting options. Have been...pleasantly surprised with food presentation, quality, and portion size on all visits. Service up there with the best.De facto in house wines rate well. Fine dining above the general expectations in the Strand. Street parking may be in demand.More

A great recommendation from a very old colleague who joined us for lunch. A very warm welcome and a beautiful setting overlooking the shore and the mountains. Has a nice colourful terrace eating area as well and parking on the beach side. The food was...excellent and very different. I had oysters au gratin, my husband had Gravlax ond our friend had Sashimi all beautifully presented, freshly made and very tasty. For mains, two of is had Malabo prawns one with chips and I had salad which was beautifully fresh, my husband had Kingklip with beurre blanc and said the Kingklip was a little solid. We were too full for desserts but all had coffee which came with a pastry little chocolate, slice of cake and a tot glass off lemon cream. A highly recommended restaurant.More

We came from the beach Our children of 4 and 2 had no shoes on like 90% of other children. 1st the host let us in. We had to sit outside since the children had no shoes on. The next waiter then came 5 minutes...later and said they are unable to serve us since the children had no shoes on and more likely since we were white. We had to leave. So we went to another place down the street.More

Stopped here by chance - and were very glad we did. Wonderful exterior seats (with a great view) and utterly delicious food - the salads were fresh and tasty, while the seafood was exceptional. Service was stately, but this was I feel reflected in the...food, which was outstanding (and very reasonably priced). The two queries we had (over the lack of semi-skimmed milk and their ‘no bread while sitting outside’ policy) were courteously and thoroughly addressed. A lovely relaxing place to visit, one we’d return to. ALSO - space age toilet facilities!More

This is our preferred "local" for the following reasons: reasonable service, lovely setting, street parking available and the food is consistently good. I wouldn't eat sushi here because IMO there's a better sushi restaurant not far away, but all the Belgian specialities here are delicious....We love the duck, the Malabo prawns are great and, more often than not, the kingklip is very good. Be aware though, that there is no electricity generator here to overcome the difficulties of daily power cuts. At these times, you'll not be able to have those heavenly Belgian frîtes!More

I have been back since that visit and they are certainly back to their high standards. We had an excellent lunch (three people), and will no doubt be going back to see them when the Lock down is over.
