Friendly waitress, slightly below-average breakfast fare. We both ordered a breakfast that had toast included. When the meals came, we were a little surprised and disappointed to see that we each received only ONE piece of toast! We asked for over easy eggs with a soft centre and basically received two fried eggs. Another issue was with the infamous South African load shedding (regular shutdown of electricity). As a result of this, the food was not cooked as well as it could have been and the couple next to us waited at least 45 minutes for their “Sunday Roast.” It would seem that Espresso may have been using gas power as a backup during load shedding instead of a generator…? Either way, average experience at best.

Good day Thank you for taking the time to review. We strive to try our best and all notes are taken with the hope that we can improve. We do unfortunately struggle a little during load shedding and have been waiting on spares. I have been told that they’ve arrived and should have installed in the next week or two. On the note of toast, you should have been asked if you’d like 1 or 2 slices (wastage been our motivation) when ordered and I’m sorry you weren’t. I’ve addressed with staff about this and also that you weren’t happy with your eggs. I do hope this finds you well and that you’d be willing to give us another visit sometime. It's all about the food....

Let's preface this by saying the restaurant atmosphere is quaint and peaceful... perfect for a breakfast or quick lunch, the staff were lovely, and they make phenomenal iced coffees. I mean honestly, some of the best I've ever had. Our issue was the food. We both had the Arnold Benedict going for 185 bucks a pop and given that it's by far their most expensive breakfast and by my logic should be their flagship, that a lot of thought would go into making it stand out, especially in a foodaholic city like Cape Town. This was not the case unfortunately. When it arrived, it was 2 tiny hashbrowns, a small slice of salmon on each and an overcooked poached egg that was no longer runny despite asking for soft-medium. In my mind and at the risk of sounding hyperbolic, that is blasphemous and defeats the entire point of a benedict. I think somewhere on there was some tomato and cheese as well but given the fact that it added nothing to the look or flavour, it's hard to recall for sure. The hollandaise sauce was also under seasoned with virtually no tang to it. No rocket, garnish or anything to give the breakfast some depth or character. It was just all the ingredients stated on the menu slapped on top of each other and served on a plate. Again, this wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't outpricing some of the best rated and most beautiful benedicts in Cape Town. In conclusion, the best-case scenario is that the kitchen just had a bad day and that this is not usually how they cook and serve their breakfasts. The worst being that given the lack of competition in the village, there may just not be enough incentive make something special to match the exorbitant price.

Ah, Komme cafè ..always our 'go to' breakfast retreat whenever staying in Kommetjie. As good as ever, home cooked food to order and it's all so scrummy! Owner & staff always friendly with a sense of humour (even with our unconventional ordering ..coffee to be served at a certain point of the meal etc.) Always busy, not hard to see why. A great start to the day .. and our host loves the loyalty points! :-)

Tucked away on quiet side street off Kommetjie main road. Good breakfasts and usually fresh croissant. Friendly staff and dog friendly with water dishes. Evening meals and lunch. Well priced and worth a visit.

Great Coffee, Tasty food and Friendly Service

Had a really good lunch here, I had the Cheeseburger and my partner the Crispy Fried Hake and chips. Both excellent. I had 2 Americanos which were the best coffee I have had in quite a while. A nice quiet location and friendly service. All good.

Best Flat white on our whole South African trip

After two weeks travelling the Western Cape and enjoying good Flat White coffees in most places on our final day we visited Espresso in Kommetjie and their barista Emanuel excelled and produced the best flat white of the trip!

Nice place, we had a cappuccino

We had some children with us and we were thirsty. So there is nice play garden and and we had a cappuccino, the children some limonades. We didn’t eat but saw pass by nice dishes. So, when we in Kommetjie near Slangkop, we will try the other things they serve

Nice place for a stop over

Great cappocino

Enjoyed eggs Benedict

We sat outside and enjoyed breakfast consisting of Eggs Benedict and it was pleasant. Rather pricey but fine. We ordered Cafe latte, but far enjoyed the cappuccino.
