Tebaldis Restaurant is set in an ideal location in the very heart of the peaceful village of McGregor, overlooking Voortrekker Street to the front and beautiful landscaped gardens to the rear. It resembles a traditional English country pub, complete with thatched roof and beamed ceilings, but with a definite southern Mediterranean twist, and all under a hot African sun. We took preprandial drinks in the shaded front garden, watching the sun set over the Little Karoo, and then retreated to the garden terrace for dinner. This really is a stunning location, overlooking a walled garden complete with preening peacocks and a well manicured lawn. The bucolic setting, simple yet comfortable furnishings, quirky objets d'art and recherche soundtrack conjured up a mythical lost age of pre-war innocence. I half expected to see Virginia Wolf and Duncan Grant dining at the next table and Noel Coward reclining in a canvas deck chair on the lawn reciting doggerel. This wonderful ambience was capped by an excellent two-course dinner accompanied by crisp McGreggor wines. This is fine dining, but without attitude or pretence. I had a lamb shank while my wife chose steak - simple dishes, very well cooked and garnished, and attractively presented. The service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Finally, we must thank the restaurant's managers, Quinton and Daryl, whose charm, warmth, wit and generosity, elevated an already exquisite experience to an even higher level. This is a restaurant that feeds the body and the heart and soul. We shall probably never have the chance to return there, but we shall never forget the experience. In case you have not already guessed, we recommend this restaurant unreservedly.

This small bistro cafe is the best of McGregor set in an historic building with pretty gardens. The host greeted us warmly and service was swift - although breakfast has a cut off point. Good range of beverages and reasonable menu. Wifi available if limited reach.

Great dinner, particularly the lamb house speciality which 3 of the 6 of us ordered. But the other meals, including the beef main course and starters were equally delicious. We had 2 children under 13 with us and were able to find suitable food for them, in spite of having no kids' menu.

Having visited Tebaldi’s two years ago and had a pleasant meal we thought we would repeat the experience on our visit to McGregor. We booked the table on line and well in advance but on arrival there was no record of this booking. The restaurant was reasonably quiet so getting a table was not a problem. We ordered our food and our starter came out quite promptly but we waited over an hour and a quarter our main course to arrive. We asked the staff to hurry things along but to no effect. We were offered complimentary drinks which we refused, we wanted our meal! By the time the food arrived we were both disappointed and saddened by the whole experience. It is one we will not repeat.

Tebaldis takes you back into another time, little hidden gems in the beautiful decorated restaurant, the food was just as good as the decor. I had the Melanzane and the Seared Salmon, absolutely delishes! Fresh with so much flavor. After the delishes meal, I came across a the biggest hidden gem, the beautiful gardens, the earth smells fresh and every turn there is some little treasure one comes across. I just keep coming back to this beautiful place.

The limited menu of dishes means you and your partner can literally taste everything. Me and my wife did and were bot disappointed. The Bok Choi made me consider becoming vegetarian, but luckily the lamb, beef, chicken and hake brought me back to my senses. The salmon was however out of this world. Unable to try all the deserts we settled for a light crème brûlée and also had the japanese cheese cake. One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Thank you Joy, Graham and Billy.

You do feel you are in a fine dining restaurant when you enter as the interior is a little barren sombre and soulless but it must be remembered it is an old manor house. Thus we decided to eat on the outside terrace although we had hoped to eat in the out of Africa bistro section in their beautiful garden. However any feeling of low expectation as the only guests at 1400 hrs at Saturday lunch was removed when we spoke to the chef/owner and we experience exquisite in between dishes and the passion and joy of the staff attending us We chatted to the modest friendly chef/owner Christiaan Campbell, former Delaire Graf chef and his passion to source his products locally from suppliers of similar philosophy and sustainability and support the community by employing local staff training them and giving them much needed opportunity. It reflected in their enthusiasm passion and joy.Well done Christiaan. This is just important as the food which I now come to as this inspiring story is what really enhances your dining experience Both the smoked hot trout and baked hake dishes were fresh moist flavoursome succulent and beautifully presented - the accompanying vegetables creating well defined balanced simple flavours I appreciate the chocolate was sustainably sourced and of highest quality but after two exquisite and refined dishes it was extremely rich and would have been better balanced with other products We wish to congratulate Luqmahn Cloete who created the dishes to such a high standard and Shanon for serving our table with such professionalism passion and a jbeaming smile

Fine dining is something of its own category. This is very far from fine… or dining. A disappointing experience from start to finish. No salt and peeps. Note knives and forks. R180 and up for meals which by the restaurant’s own admission are only starter portions. And when they arrived they were tiny and lacking. But always happy to pay for a great tasting meal we tucked in. Only to find the pork not only not pork but inedible. The lamb was powdery and tasted off. Covered in sauce to hide this. We relied on the side to give us some sustenance. We have never been more disappointed and dissatisfied with a dining experience. Do not waste your time or money on this poorly run establishment

I'd go back to McGregor for the food alone and I'd make sure I book a meal at Tebaldi's. I ordered the lamb and it was one of those very rare occasions where that first bite is a sensory experience that puts an immediate pause on the autopilot. I don't know much about art, but I like to think this is what it tastes like. The rest of the food was excellent, as was the service. Highly recommended.

Tebaldis is such a surprise in the middle of McGregor and it is worth going there for the absolutely divine find dining experience. My sister is an award winning chef herself and she was so impressed with the food we had. I am still salivating over my duck which was tender, beautifully prepared and so moreish I’m inclined to drive back 166kms to have it again.

Please compare your info with what really happens at Thebald's in McGregor. Food/ Menu and interior do not correlate with your advertisement. We drove 100km for our anniversary for a specific ambiance and menu as per photo's according to your info...what a disappointment! Ella Liebenberg

Apparently a new chef in residence from a top Franschhoek restaurant. We had an outstanding meal. Attentive staff, thoughtful balanced dishes and a laid back elegant decor made this a special evening. Very reasonably priced. We will be back.

We sat outside in the front garden. Lovely staff who were friendly and attentive. Delicious food. We bled inside next to the fire for coffee and dessert. Lovely presentation of all the dishes. And delicious.
