We came in on day 2, when Eva, the new chef and owner, had just taken over the kitchen. The menu now is mainly Italian. Excellent fresh pasta, gorgeous chicken al limone.

Our party of five adults had lunch here while on a day trip to Greyton from Cape Town. The food was to die for! I settled for the beef beer pie which was a very generous meaty dish prepared to perfection. Others in the party opted for the chicken pie, which Abby Rose is famed for, Fish and chips and Indian lamb and bean curry. Everyone, without exception, enjoyed their meal to the full. The atmosphere, service and ambiance is truly great. I'm so looking forward to visiting Greyton again and will definitely enjoy a meal at Abby Rose!

I had lambshank and chocolate fondant and my wife had peri peri prawns and creme brulee. I can honestly say that we personally shook hands with the manager and chef after that experience. Every dish spoke of experience and a fine taste and delegate preparing with a satisfied customer in mind. What a blessing!!

We sa outsider there was nothing for the control of mosquitoes, the owner prides himself in walking from table to table telling ll the guests how his place is for sale , well he told us the same thing 3 years ago when we were there . My husband had the duck pie and it was frozen and warmed up in the oven i had the fillet asked for medium rare, it tasted boiled and it was old. terrible food will never go back, totally over rated and run down

Sorry for the delayed response waitress was on leave Always concerned when a review is not favourable Nice couple ,waiting for their guests, spend some time chatting to them, yes my plsce is for sale, dont think its a crime to mention it,yes its mozzie time, some are lucky and some need spray which isALWAYS available, just ask No mention of frozen pie to waitress or me who was on the floor the whole time They finished the plates, except for the hubby s veggies now here is where the complaint loses its credibility...anyone in this industry good or bad, a BOILED fillet????maybe 2 bottles of Krone can change your tastebuds To hubby thank you fot the generous tip please DONT remove this review

My wife and I drove through from Caledon to Grayton on 11 June to enjoy dinner at Abbey Rose in celebration of our 43rd wedding anniversary. The one hour return trip was so worth the drive. Superb dining in a genteel setting with a proprietor who went from table to table to personally welcome each patron. Did I mention that the restaurant was fully booked and that on a Thursday. My wife enjoyed the Rump and I the Pork belly. We ended the meal with the Amarula Nut Sundae and coffee. We would do the journey again such was the quality of the food both in presentation and taste. Abbey Rose is a gem not to be missed when in Greyton.

Excellent food and friendly service. Having had the lamb shank a few years ago I went for that again and it did not disappoint. Delicious and a generous portion. We started off with the deep fried camembert which was also really good. The pork belly was served with two large pieces of crackling which caused much joy. 😊

Just visited the Abbey Rose and what a fabulous place hidden away in Greyton. Several of the dishes were sold out but after tasting what we all did have I can completely understand. Everything is home made generous portions and we cleared our plates The staff and owners were charming and you have to wander around to appreciate the charm and humour or the place a true hidden gem.

We visited Abbey Rose last Friday and had to book as per normal. Being a hot day we sat outside as per normal. Anyway I had spare ribs which was really great. Must say the best in the town so far. My wife’s steak on the other hand was really tough and really difficult to eat. Besides mixing up my veg with my wife’s salad the rest was good. We did tell the waiter however nothing was done about it. So besides the menu being limited and pricey I can recommend the ribs which comes with great chips, but the steak should be given a miss.

This the 3 or 4th visit to this wonderful establisnment. We are never disappointed. Run by a true professional who knows how to look after his customers and with superb staff. We had just spent 2 weeks in Franschoek eating in the restaurants there, this restaurant serves a different style of food (no foams small plates or essences here ) Just honest very well cooked tasty food. I hope it never changes. Thank you

This notice on our table would have made me walk out immediately if not for the fact that we were in a group, all of whom were hungry. Food was excellent. Service friendly. What does this notice say about the customer care ethos of the management? Not everyone is a big eater, especially elderly people. One of our party has had stomach surgery, another eats like a bird. This is unacceptable. Won't be back.

We arrived during loadshedding. We were told only certain items were available which was understandable. We ordered drinks a beer that came with a beer glass and a ginger ale which the waitress poured into the red wine glass (no ice offered). Mains we ordered the pork belly and the sirloin steak (Medium). The pork belly R190 was tasty and the mash was good. The cracking was crispy on the top and chewy underneath and wasn't hot. The Steak R185 was on the Rare side of medium rare. It had a section of fat on the one side and gristle on the other. The potatoe wedges seem to have been made earlier and warmed up. The vegetables provide with both meals were underdone almost raw.

We went to Abbey Rose purely for the pork belly and we were not disappointed. Cooked to perfection, really generous portions with plenty sides, it was simply delicious. Service great too. If we’re ever back in Greyton we will definitely visit again.

They say you shouldn't eat seafood except at the coast, but this little gem may be the exception to the rule. We stopped here on local advice during our Western Cape road trip. After eating leathery calamari and horrible dry crayfish for a king's ransom in the harbour in Hermanus, we were loathe for a re-match. What a difference 40 or so miles inland makes, apparently. When we voiced our trepidation our genial and well informed hosts told us, "the chef is from Spain, fish is her thing, trust us". Throwing caution to the wind we opted for Smoked Paprika Calamari, Mussels and Prawns and Whole Baby Kinklip. All of it was flavoursome and fresh. All plates were mopped clean. All shells were slurped dry. We were truly surprised by the quality in this charming restaurant in a village which is known, probably unfairly, as a culinary back water at best. Well, we will head back to these back waters whenever we can, if this is the standard. For dessert we had a gargantuan tiramisu and a more reasonably sized vanilla pod panna cotta with pistachio cream and brittle. I disgraced myself by fingering up very last molecule of the pistachio cream, side long glances from other diners be damned. My friend was hunkered down defensively over her tiramisu and made growling sounds when my spoon approached to steal a taste. Incredibly, she inhaled the whole thing. Well done Honey.

What a delightful restaurant. The roasted lamb was the best I have ever tasted, vegetables perfectly cooked , great lamb curry and to round off a delicious chocolate fondant. Great service , I would recommend this restaurant without any hesitation
