About
A family-friendly country pub with open fires, exposed beams and great food; dog are welcome too, with complimentary biscuits and water always available. The inn is mentioned in the Doomsday Book in 1084 when it was most likely a shepherd's cottage built halfway between the shepherd's homes and the traditional grazing pastures. In 1520 the cottage became an Inn with a charter allowing shepherds to warm their sickly lambs by the fires. ~ A country pub oozing rural charm and rustic character, our picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop for savouring the hearty, seasonal pub-food on our menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing our bar. Whether you are planning dinner with friends or Sunday lunch with family, book a table online and enjoy some quality time with those you love the most.

We have eaten here on previous occasions and decided to return for lunch whilst again visiting the area. We booked telling them that we had our dog with us. On arriving, we were told that the only table left was a tiny table at the front of the restaurant where waiting staff were constantly walking backwards and forwards. We have a large dog who usually sits under the table...no chance! No room. We were about to leave even though we had booked then saw another table in the bar and asked if we could sit there where there was more room. Why weren't we offered this anyway? Strange. My husband had the lamb (£24.95) and told the waitress it was tough, most of it he gave to the dog. The waitress just asked if he ordered it well done, he replied yes and she just said "oh" and lost interest. We decided not to stay for dessert and won't be returning.

We are so sorry to hear this negative experience you had with us, we apologise the only table left in our restaurant area wasn't to your standard. The table you were moved to is part of are bar tables meaning mainly drinkers or people who come up to the bar and order sit there so normally isn't offered to our dining guests. In future when booking a table you are able to add booking notes or alternatively when phoning up a member of staff can add it your booking notes stating you have a large dog insuring you are sat on a more suitable table, I hope this helps and you are willing to give us another chance.

Had a lovely and warm welcome from the team upon arrival. Our meals were delicious and good value for money- I particularly enjoyed the fishcakes. Fran was very professional and friendly throughout our visit and went above and beyond to make our dining experience a positive one today. Thank you 😊

We gave this rating because while the staff were lovely, we were very disappointed when certain items on the menu were not available. The main reason we chose to go to the Lamb in is because our daughter loves lamb, and we were out celebrating her birthday. When we placed our order of 2 lamb dinners we were told there is no lamb left. Our daughter didn’t want anything else on the menu. So we was considering going somewhere else, when the manager came and said they could take some lamb from the Sunday menu so that our daughter could have it but I would have to chose something else. I chose pie as my alternative but the last one had just gone and I ended up having the hunters chicken. Which was very thin, dry and over cooked. The manager and Olivia were very nice and couldn’t apologies enough. Service, drinks and puds were all good so it turned out ok in the end. My advice to others wanting to visit the Lamb Inn is to check the menu and ask to reserve the food of your choice before you go.

Been to the pub lots of times for lunch, got there, kept waiting for ages to get seated, staff kept walking past and saying ' be with you in a moment ' finally seen. By the manager, she said they had no free tables only in the bar, ( I could see two empty tables) the side dinning room was empty (10 tables), she said we could sit in the bar but would have to order at the bar, I'm 70+ and physically disabled so it would have been nice to have waitress service. Put our order in, we were not asked about food allergies, but I have an allergy 'warning card, which is given to the waitress/kitchen, gave this to the manger, she disappeared to the kitchen, gone for ages, I'm still waiting at the bar - Disabled who cares! She returned and said what I wanted had my allergies in it, I asked what I could have instead and she said she didn't know!!!! I would have to order something and she would then ' read the ingredients on the packet, ALL the food is processed she said and nothing is actual prepared fress , it's just ' ping' food. When I tried to complain she was so keen to get rid of me and kept saying sarcastically have a nice day, she shouted over me as I was talking to her

Thank you for sharing your experience with us at The Lamb Inn. I’m truly sorry to hear that your recent visit didn’t meet your expectations, and I apologize for any inconvenience or discomfort you may have felt. At The Lamb Inn, we strive to provide a welcoming and accommodating environment, and it’ s clear we fell short during your visit. Regarding the empty tables you noticed, we sometimes need to keep certain areas unseated to align with our staff rotations and ensure we can provide the best service possible. However, I understand how this might have felt confusing or frustrating, and I appreciate you bringing it to our attention. I also apologize for any miscommunication around your food allergy. Food safety and guest well-being are of utmost importance to us, and I’ll be working closely with the team to improve our processes in handling allergies to ensure clearer communication and extra care. Lastly, I regret if our team’s approach to communication felt less than respectful. This does not reflect the standard of service we aim to uphold, and I will be addressing this with our staff. Thank you again for your valuable feedback. If you’re willing to give us another chance, I’d be grateful for the opportunity to ensure your next visit is everything you expect from us. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly, on lambinnhooebexhill@vitageinn.co.uk Warm regards, Jose Vico General Manager The Lamb Inn

Had a lovely lunch there on Easter Sunday the restaurant had a capacity but as a guest we had no sense of the business struggling to cope. The food was lovely and great value but it’s the staff that elevate any dinning experience but it was our waiter Harry that impressed us most such a lovely genuine young man, he will go far in life. Highly recommend this venue.

Booked for a family Christmas Eve festive lunch Arrived at 12:30 which was the first sitting to be met with We have no stuffing We have no Pigs in Blankets We have no Venison Pie When children are looking forward to a Christmas lunch and two of main ingredients in a kids eye are not present this is unacceptable Whilst we were still eating our starters, they brought the main courses out to the table When we finally got around to wanting the main course, it arrived where the potatoes and vegetables had obviously been cooked previously and then reheated ( too much ) as they were hard and burnt. This used to be a sure thing for a family meal. They should stick to normal menus and not expect people to pay the full price for sub standard meals

Ordered fish and chips, fish was well over cooked, batter was rock hard and fish was like rubber, sent it back. Second dinner arrived was slightly better but dripping in oil, partner had finished her lunch before mine came back, so not great eating on your own. No offer of a refund or money off and at £16.95 was a complete rip off. Can’t believe the chef sent it out like it was. Very disappointing as I have been wanting to go there for years, won’t be going back.

The experience was largely very enjoyable. Quality of service was excellent and delivery of all drinks and meals was timely. Where the experience fell short was in the food standard, which was noticeably lower than when I had last eaten at the restaurant. Some of the vegetables weren't fully cooked, even to an al dente level. Additionally both my steak and my partner's steak was not cooked to the doneness that we had requested to our waitress. I had requested a medium-rare steak and my partner a medium steak, but both steaks were overdone on one side and cooked to a medium-well doneness. The steak was still enjoyable which is why the experience as a whole gets 4/5 stars, but it wasn't how I ordered it and given the cost of the meal, this wouldn't seem to be a high bar. The saving grace was the quality of the starter and the pudding, which were both excellent.

As a family of eight we all enjoyed our Sunday lunch yesterday. The various roasts were tasty and well-served, particularly the pork belly, and the vegetables and gravy were delicious too. The desserts were a real treat, and the mini dessert + hot drink option was welcomed by those of us who didn’t have enough room left after the mains. Our waitress Kate was very welcoming and attentive, and we send our compliments to Richard the chef. Only niggle would be that the room was a bit chilly for first half of the meal until the open fire took hold.

I rarely post a review but the Lamb is so bad i feel compelled to. Also there is a blackboard in the bar on which we are encouraged, in large block capitals, to do so. So here you go. The menu is pretty standard pub fare. But pub fare can be appetising and tasty. Not at the Lamb. The starter of deep fried calamari consisted of an assortment of soggy fried globules of batter with a tiny morsel of something in the middle. This accompanied by a small dish of rancid gloop. Mayonnaise ? i don't really know. Gammon steak for a main course. This wasnt really recognisable as a gammon steak. A lump of gristly pork. And the chips. Billed as triple fried. But served almost raw in the middle. Thats right, a pub restaurant that can't even cook chips. And the wine? I ordered a small glass of Merlot at six pounds something a glass. This was so awful as to be undrinkable . The sort of wine that if you won it in a raffle you'd pour it down the sink. Ordered a glass of malbec and left the merlot. But this lot are so lacking in awareness and so venal that they charged me for the merlot anyway. Hey why not gouge your customers when you can!! I have a question for the proprietor /chef of this awful establishment. Why? Why are you in the restaurant business when you clearly have no aptitude for it and hve no understanding of customer service. Avoid this place at all costs.

Food was terrible, 5 of us ordered and all meals were stone cold. When replacements arrived were warm but no flavour and most of us only ate few mouthfuls as was not tasty at all. Service was slow and if you tried to catch attention of staff they ignored you. The only plus was a new waiter from Ibiza who had character but the rest couldn’t care less. Wish we hadn’t gone there.

Good food, well presented, excellent waiting staff. They need to employ extra staff or continue to lose trade as the queue to be seated was taking so long that some people left to eat elsewhere. Only 3 waiting staff and 2 in the kitchen is not a good idea in springtime and the sun entices people out. This is a popular venue, the staff were almost snowed under, but still provided a great, cheerful, service. Well done Kate (waitress) and Sharon (in the kitchen.

Great service, very attentive even at the busy Christmas season! Food was delicious and very well cooked, came out piping hot. I had the beef sirloin roast and asked for well-done as I was pregnant at the time, the meat was cooked just how I asked. Highly recommend!

Another lovely lunch at this delightful country pub. The food, staff and ambiance are perfect. We ate the daily special, Chicken Pie, and the Haddock Fishcakes washed down with a nice Ned Chardonnay. Recommended 5/5.

A family mealout for those of that are left, for my Big Sister's 60th. It was my first experience of The Lamb and what a great experience it was. There's a lovely, homey atmosphere about the place and the staff cannot do enough to help you. Our waiter (a younger Michael Ball look-alike) was knowledgeable, engaging, friendly and funny. There's a great selection of drinks (if you're a "Harvey's" fan, look no further than the draught Best. The Bar Manager knows how to keep their beer!). Settling for the pork belly roast I discove the portions are generous, whilst still allowing room for desert. Perfectly cooked and presented and all reasonably priced. This was my first visit. I will move heaven and earth t ensure it isnt my last!
