Staying independently in Milford on Sea & decided to have dinner at The Lazy Lion. Excellent choice! A decent menu, not huge but sufficient with good food, wine & friendly staff & management! Nice location & easy to find! Would eat here again! Very enjoyable...dinner!More
Had the best Sunday Roast at the Lazy Lion in New Milford. My husband had been a few days earlier with 2 friends and was so impressed he booked for Sunday.
We were not disappointed. The decor is impressive, staff are very friendly and attentive,...but Ian the boss is the star of the show. He’s funny, friendly and knows his business. Can’t wait to return. But don’t take my word for it, make a reservation and see for yourself!More
Booked a table for 5pm Sunday. Terrific meals served with a smile (behind a mask) by efficient and friendly staff. Owner Ian visited all tables and checked all well and added his hosting skills! Honestly we thought it a great choice and great value and...an excellent pub/restaurant.More
We popped into the pub as another in town had turned us away as we hadn't booked (despite no option to book on their website), and we were left to wait for about 5 minutes before anyone asked if we needed anything - we asked...if we could have a table (the pub was empty bar 2 people) and were asked if we wanted to food or drinks to which we said whatever would get us a table...
We were shown to a table and told it would be needed back at 4 (it was 2:30), to which we replied that it wouldn't be an issue.
We ordered a couple of light bites (a starter and a sandwich) and a couple of drinks. we sat chatting, looking around. The pub clearly had an outside area and was well set up for social distancing inside.
About 10 minutes later, I went up to the bar to ask if we could have our drinks before food (assuming they were taking a while as they thought we might want it all together...?), but it seemed like they'd been forgotten.
The drinks came, followed about 10 minutes later by the food. The fish finger sandwich was superb, with fish goujons in place of the expected usual fingers. Extremely tasty and substantial. My wife's chicken goujons were fine, but the mayonnaise they came with was lightly drizzled all over as opposed to in a pot for dipping. They were well cooked though and tasty.
While we were eating, 2 small groups came and went as they were asking if the pub was serving food, but were told it had been an exceptionally busy lunchtime and the kitchen staff needed a break to prep for a fully booked evening. Things then became a little clearer and we were grateful to have been served food at all...I certainly wouldn't have had an issue if we'd been told they clearly had stopped food service. The fact that they didn't and tried to accommodate us anyway came across as very generous!
It was at that point the owner / manager came over and engaged us as we were looking at the lion related items around. He was a very friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate character. We talked about how he'd managed through COVID, etc and I have to say, he made our visit!
I will always attempt to support local, small or independent businesses and this is one that clearly is doing its best during these tough times.
We were just visiting for the day and decided to stop at the Lazy Lion for some lunch. We had our dog too so we went into the garden area. The setting was peaceful, the food was delicious and Iain made it a great experienc...for us all. Iain was pretty funny and seemed to be able to give us all that personal touch. He even brought a dog treat for Sasha our dog.
I wish we had the time to return for dinner. We have put it on our list to definitely return to.
I visited the ladies and that was spotless. The inside was clean, bright and also relaxing.More
We had a fantastic getaway weekend in Milford on Sea at The Lazy Lion. The staff were super helpful and always on hand with any questions and requests, especially the wonderful owner Iain who gave top tier recommendations both in and out of town!
The...room was bright, cosy, very quiet and had everything we needed. The complimentary breakfast provided a good selection as did the dinner menu. They also have a garden which was perfect for having a drink in the sun! With 10 minutes walk to the beach and a good selection of surrounding bars and restaurants, it really is a great place to spend a weekend just outside of New Forest (which is another brilliant must see!).More
