My wife and I went for the 8 course tasting menu and all I can say is that I was stunned by every single course. The balance of flavours and textures was sublime. I have eaten at a number of Michelin starred establishments and this...place was second to none. The open kitchen is at the front of restaurant, with chef David Wykes and his sous chef preparing the meals in front of us. We were fortunate enough to be seated at the table right in front of the pass and David was happy to talk to us at the end of the meal, about his journey at the restaurant and his passion for food. I cannot praise this restaurant highly enough. The staff were friendly and efficient and, I will say it again, the food was amazing. Thank you, David and the team, for a great meal and a lovely evening.More
We were not sure what to expect (obviously, as it was a "blind" menu), but the food was simply sublime. We had a fabulous experience. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. It was great to sit opposite the kitchen and speak to the...chef (once things had quietened down!). Cannot recommend highly enough!More
A 100-mile round trip for dinner needed to be special.
And it certainly was, as the 8 course "Blind Taster" menu with wines met all the hype from previous reviewers.
Difficult to pick out a winning dish bit for us it was the perfectly cooked...Scallops with Roe, the wafer light cheese waffles and the effervescent grapes that accompanied the smoked trout.
These are creations that challenge the senses, defy logic and bring the flavours and spices of all corners of the world into a small, intimate dining room.
The different wines that accompanied each dish were perfectly matched - especially the Primitivo Rose that was married to the Turbot course. A sumptuous English (!) white was outstanding but maybe finest of all was the lightly sparkling Italian dessert wine, only slightly sweet, the mere hint of bubbles and perfect with the white chocolate, raspberry and pistaccio final course invention
The crockery was also incredible, beautifully crafted and evocative dishes and plates that made every serving a different and stunning interactive experience.
Mention also the unique liquorice ice cream with fuzzy white sherbert, and the delicious mango and fruit juice aperitif served in a porcelain half egg shell to challenge the mind.. all just so different and so many wonderful surprises.
Ok, so the 8 course "Full Monty" with wines does not come cheap at around £270 for 2 people but the sheer, consistent, quality of the food (and wine) merited every penny. Quality not only in the creativity but also the obvious top freshness of the ingredients ..
It was a Wednesday evening, not yet tourist season, yet every table was full .. and two sittings at that .. which says it all. The place was alive with happiness and excitement from the diners of all (adult) ages.. and this buzz is not something to take for granted. But when you witness it, you know you are eating somewhere very special.More
Wow! The food was devine and cooked to perfection. Love the fact that the menu is only decided on the day depending on what fish comes in. We had the lunchtime tasting menu which is £37 per head for 6 courses plus bread (well, a...gorgeous cheese and onion waffle!) and a canapé. Loved the whole experience - thank you to David and the team.More
We visited Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant after reading such amazing reviews online.
From start to finish the restaurant lived up to these reviews!
We ate the 6 course tasting menu and were able to ask for things we didn't want (pickled fish). The meal consisted of...a range of different fish dishes (smoked salmon etc) and sweets towards the end. The 6 course taster menu can be had with wine pairings and was such fantastic value! The presentation was incredible and the service even better.
It isn't really a restaurant for children but they made our daughter feel so welcome! The chef made our daughter a child friendly version of one of their dishes - sea bass, broccoli and baby corn and ice cream for after. They charged us £10 for the her meal, which was so incredibly kind of them. The front of house/servers were very accommodating.
We had such a gorgeous lunch at Verveine Fishmarket Restaurant and would 100% recommend it.More
Very relaxed setting, with delightful service and food that makes you want to keep returning. Each course was beautifully prepared and presented - ad the finale of 'sherbert fountain' will stay with us for a long time.
We first visited in May 2019 whilst on holiday and loved it so much that we booked to bring our son and his wife in May 2020. Well we all know that happened then. As soon as we knew that we could visit this year...we booked. We opted for the 8 course menu with wine. It was superb, impossible to choose a favourite, we took photos to torture our son as unfortunately he couldn't be with us this year. He was suitably impressed and as someone who regularly eats in Michelin restaurants he also commented that the price was very reasonable. We just wish we lived closer. Many thanks to everyone for a wonderful mealMore
