Absolutely an amazing little place. Went for a Father’s Day lunch (7 people) and was a great experience. Service is slow but the waiter tells you upfront. So don’t be in a hurry. Have a drink and relax and enjoy the atmosphere while you wait....Talk to each other 😂. Nothing matches and so retro. Lots of old railway stuff. Food is very tasty and portions are generous.More

I have visited the Shuntin Shed before and am glad to say that they have gotten even better. The restaurant is located at the old train station with décor to match, giving you that nostalgic train-journey feel. They have inside as well as outside (undercover)...dining areas making them a good option for cold and warm days. If you do sit outside you also get a beautiful view of the Botriver. The last time we visited we were only able to order pizza, and although they were tasty, this time around I ordered one of their burgers which I enjoyed even more. The cherry on-top for me was how friendly the staff were, they truly made us feel at home. Seeing as they have kept on improving, visit-on-visit, I can't wait to come back and give them another try.More

A venue that looks a bit dubious on arrival but makes some of the most interesting and tasty pizzas I have ever tried. We stopped for lunch and each of us ordered something different and then had a taste. The various combinations of ingredients on...the pizzas together with their innovative names taken from famous trains just make the place. We sampled the Redeye, Runaway Train, and the Garret and all were outstanding. There was one burger in the mix as well which was also good. Service was a bit iffy and they had workmen rebuilding benches with power tools while we were there which made it a bit noisy and unpleasant. Certainly well priced and good food worth another visitMore

Just had probably the best pizza in our lives and career. A bit of the beaten track but what an awesome place and friendly owner as well as such a knowledgeable waiter and so well spoken. Didn't have the burgers but they looked incredible. Make...a plan to go visit this place, you will not regret it.More

It's a while since Sharon, my wife, and I have visited the Shunting Shed in Botrivier. As I remember we were pleasantly surprised with the pizza they served up to us. Crispy, with abundant filling to offset that crunch. Yesterday was a revelation that should...not have been. The first attraction is undoubtedly the Draught Guinness that is world renowned and clearly identifiable by the dark chocolate body and creamy head. If you haven't tasted guinness served at the correct temperature and poured in the traditional manner, then I have to tell you, you have not lived. If you have you are free to move on to step two. Although Sunday this establishment doesn't currently cater to the 'Sunday Lunch' brigade. Not to say you won't get fed, just not traditional Sunday no Roast! But check the menu/wine card and supplement it with the specials board. We both settled for Venison pie Chips and Gravy. Sharon had a Castle Light and I had two large Guinness, which were to die for. To complete the meal we chose a bottle of 'Gabriel's Kloof Rose, Rosebud to be precise. Chosen from a wine list that did the job and echoed local choice. The food, the wine and the venue excellent. The shunting Shed looks over the gently rolling hills of the Ovrerberg and though the day did not do justice to the distant corn fields there was enough changing light to hint at what summer has to offer. Tranquil, low key, and lay back, a place to savour the food, savour the wine and capture the moment which changes as swiftly as the scurrying clouds. I know in the not to distant future the Guinness will beckon me, the food tease me and the venue beguile me. Go see if that gem glints for you!More

Visited here and had a lovely little lunch at the outside tables. The waitress was super friendly and efficient. The thin crust pizza is a must and they have a wide variety of toppings. Great spot for a quick meal and beer with so much...character and charm for this lovely small town.More

We had occasion to visit the Shinting Shed in Botrivier in Western Cape South Africa. It was a warm winters day, Saturday to be exact. The Shunting Shed as the name implies is situated next to a railway line in an old dissused station, but...active railway line. We sat outside in the watery sunlight because we had our dogs with us. I ordered a large 'Fokof' pilsner lager for myself and Castle light for my wife. We decided on a feta, pepperdew, chilli and chorizo pizza and a plate if chips. The chips arrived first. They were thick cut, crispy on the outside and soft inside. Served hot they were a dream. We Brits know a good chip when we eat one and these were right up there. A little later our pizza made its entrance. I think it was the combination of the taste tantalizing topping and the crisp crunchy crust that made for a sumptious mouthful. Along with the chips serving as a beautiful culinary foil. The lager was good good and the food better. Check it out!More

We popped back in to see what the new owners would do to the place. Well, thank goodness - they kept it pretty much the same. Great decor -stayed the same. Ambiance - chilled and peaceful - still the same. Friendly waitering staff - still...the same and we just love H! Menu - slightly smaller but pretty much still the same. As always, I could order myself a custom vegan pizza which just makes my day and they are super generous with the toppings - you just can't go wrong with the pizzas! Washed that down with a Fokof beer - yum! They have quite a few craft beers available and some on tap. Our 3 pizzas with drinks came to R538. Definitely worth going back for and you can have faith that the quality and great food has not slipped. Well done!More

The Shuntin Shed is a hidden gem. They have a small menu and while it looks like a pub, the food and service are great. I had one of my best pizzas ever and the salad was fresh and unique.
