We arrived with our kids at a very windy and busy evening (seems like every day is like that at dionyssos). We were offered to wait for a table in the kitchen hall, where we could see the frantic work pace of at least 6 cooks at the spotless kitchen. This explains the very speedy arrival of our food once ordered. The staff (mostly family members) was super friendly ans knowlegable about the different dishes (including the awsome garlic bread that is "made by our grandmother"). To keep it short - everything we had was delicious (slads, pasta for the kids, cheeses, souflaki, fish) and the portions are very big. We had a great evening at dionyssos.

One of our best gastronomic expericences in Crete, extremely attentive service, great panorama and very good money

An incredible table, with a view on all the valley at sunset, a beautiful terrace where a full crew offers a very attentive and friendly service in many languages... all with an extremely cheap menu (and very generous portions), which is incredible since this the very best food ever. They have a regular menu, but welcome you by taking you to the kitchen (very clean) to show you the day's specials. Among which some extremely flavoured vegetarian dishes (ah, those oven baked eggplants!) as well as good choice of sauced meats and lots of seafood... The appetizers are gorgeous (stuffed zucchini flowers, yummmy ), salads as well. The only thing you have to be aware of is that portions are big and you may end up taking some back home and making the excellent culinary experience last. Thanks again to all the crew !

Excellent cretian food with an amazing view!

We choose Souvlaki chicken and pork for the main course, which was excellent. They were served with homemade fries, cucumber and tomatos. In advance we has some bread with homemade tzaziki, one of the best we ever ate. We can recommend this beautiful tavern with its georgious view and a really nice team. Finally we bought two bottles of homemade olive oil, which was also very delicious!

I can't see why this place has such glowing reviews. Yes,the view is good but the food is about average and I did not feel it was the authentic taverna experience at all. The food on display in the kitchen was unremarkable and uninspiring. The complimentary dip was a smear of greated tomato in a puddle of olive oil. We had the stuffed vine leaves which were pretty tasteless and the cuttle fish stifado. It was ok, cooked with dill and onions but the portion wasn't very big. There was not much to choose from. The service was attentive. A very young crew. But there were no serviettes and I do object to being charged for a bottle of water I never asked for. Altogether an underwhelming experience and there are much better tavernas in Plakias for a more authentic experience

Hidden Gem Local Cuisine

Seriously good food on the menu (glad we looked inside the kitchen pots for daily specials though as they contained amazing home cooked food - so hard to choose we asked for half/half plates to sample almost everything! The Dionyssos salad was incredible. So hospitable including complimentary crushed tomato and oil with the bread, and free dessert. A must visit Tavern with quality local produce whilst taking in the stunning endless water views over Plakia.

Hidden treasure o Cretan food scene

Hard to start ;) everything was great even french fries prepared with some herbs were excellent. We had Dionyssos salad (oh my God), Briam (if you are not meat eater that’s the dish you have to try). Also home made burgers (be careful it is not In’n’out type of burger). Reasonable prices hungry family of four spend €45 for great, tasty and hard to eat (due to size) dinner.

fantastic food experience!

This place was suggested by my boyfriend’s sister (she visited Crete a few months ago). We loved everything about it!! We were looking for authentic well made Cretan food, and the menu had everything we wanted and more. The owners and everyone working there was so kind, they really cared about clients and treated us so well! They really made us feel at home. The view was fantastic, the taverna was nicely decorated, there were super cute cats outside 😊 We loved this place so much that we ended up coming back the day after as well! ❤️ would highly highly suggested for the amazing food experience and as I said, much more! Efcharisto poly :))

We returned several times to this tavern with a beautiful view of Plakias. The cuisine has never disappointed us, every evening upon our arrival we were greeted with simplicity and friendliness by the staff and led to the kitchen where the cook presented us with the daily specials offered in addition to the menu list. Traditional dishes, varied and well cooked, generous portions, naturally sweet and raki offered at the end of the dinner, a more than honest bill. Much preferable to the various places in the center of Plakias which in my opinion are more touristy.

Everything really great! Local with beautiful views. The guys who serve in the room were all perfect, cute, kind, helpful and attentive. As soon as we arrived we were invited to the kitchen to see the dishes of the day... all very inviting and for all tastes! Rabbit with tomatoes and onions, lamb with artichokes, beef stew, baked pasta, vegetable lasagna, shank with potatoes, vegetables with couscous, vegetables stuffed with rice... all fresh, prepared in the day, looking great! We had a plate of mixed vegetables stuffed with rice, pumpkin flowers and vine leaves, and then the rabbit with potatoes and the angel with artichokes! Abundant portions and excellent both to the eye and to the taste! Both cooked to perfection. At the end of dinner they offer liquor and homemade treats. Normal price, in relation to location, food and service. (A plate of mixed stuffed vegetables, two seconds of meat, wine and water.Total 50 euros). Absolutely recommended!

If you are in Plakias invest a 5 min drive to this jewel of a Greek Taverna! Whe you get there you'll be rewarded with a stunning view from an open door (Can also be closed) Dining room with great, warm and accommodating service. The Food was delicious and the portions were pretty big. Once you get there you will be invited into the Kitchen where they show you all their daily specials (somewhere 10 - 15) which included Meat, Fish and Vegetarian dishes. Did i say that the kitchen is spotless clean? And so are the bathrooms. The prices are totally fair and much cheaper than down by the beach! They are also very kid friendly!! 5 Stars all the way!! Thank you!! Can highly recommend!!

Fine dining in a beautiful setting

For such a small village, Mirthios is well catered for fine restaurants. They all serve good food and have wonderful views south to Plakias, the bay and the Kukomouri Akrotiri Penninsular. That being so, the competition for custom is intense and the standard great. We particularly enjoyed the Chef's Specials. They are not listed on a board so you are invited to the kitchen to see them in preparation. The helpings are huge and all there is room for after the main course is the customary Raki and delicious cake.

Food and service was excellent. You could tell when you were shown the daily specials in the kitchen it was going to be good. It is a very special restaurant you don't get many like these. We had lamb and tomatoes sauce and a curried pork dish both delicious.

We were traveling from Sfakia to Kourtaliotiko Gorge, and we happened to stop at this tavern for lunch. The reception was perfect the place is clean and very nice, the girls took us to the kitchen where they showed us the dishes of the day (I would have ordered everything). In the end we opted for the squid (very fresh) and vegetables of the day .. all delicious. Finally in typical Cretan style they offered you a crazy banana dessert and the usual Rakia (which we reluctantly left because the descent to the Kourtaliotiko Falls was waiting for us) Highly recommended
