Terrible food great beer

Great beer but man does the food at this place suck. Went twice in the space of a week and both times the food is literally inedible. Especially avoid the nachos and chicken wings, Nice cold beer and great service Just eat somewhere else

Nice casual pub/restaurant

The Steak 'n Ale manages to make itself nicer than the usual pub, but without losing the comfortable relaxed atmosphere of a local. The waiters are efficient and attentive. There is a reasonable selection of drinks, and the menu, while small, is likely to have something on that you want to eat. Certainly a spot we tend to go to when visiting Umhlanga.

More a bar than a restaurant.

Came hoping for a good steak and good beer and didn't really find either. My wife quite enjoyed her meal but my steak was overdone and going a bit dry. No craft beer on tap or in bottles which was a bit disappointing. I suspect that there's better steak options across the road, but didn't visit them so can't confirm. There was quite a fun vibe in the place (it was Friday evening) but it definitely felt like more or a place to go for a drink than a meal. Maybe mid-week is better for dining.

Worst than terrible

We should have known that we were in for a bad experience when the waitress suggested a white wine when the red we ordered was out of stock. Things did not improve when our enquiry as to what steak was recommended, drew the response‘T-bone..because it has 3 different types of meat!’Unsurprisingly, our neal was such that we left it uneaten as it was cold, overdone and not accompanied by any of the sides we ordered As a positive, we were not charged for the ‘ meal .’

Very festive atmosphere

The curry was great. Unfortunately the steak was undercooked. There was load shedding at the time so we understand that we would not be able to get everything on the menu. However, we had a waitress that was new and was not very well trained and had to keep running back and forth to the kitchen to check things. We also had to call her to take our order. She was very pleasant but was quite obviously not trained properly. For the rest of it the atmosphere was very festive and everything else was great.

Lively pub with live sport & decent food.

I spent a Friday & a Saturday evening at this venue whilst staying in the area on holiday, and it was extremely busy & bustling on both nights. The crowd was predominately young locals and the lively atmosphere reflected that clientele. The live football World Cup games being shown on the big screens certainly added to the vibe. I had a burger on both nights to soak up the alcohol & thoroughly enjoyed the quality of those burgers. If you are after a busy, lively drinking venue with pretty decent pub food then I’d certainly recommend this place.

Great Service - Better staff!

Steak and ale is a very vibey place. I’d highly recommend. The food is good and it’s very well priced. If you come make sure you look out for Vee - she’s one of the nicest waitresses you’ll come across. She always serves with a smile!!

Steak and Ale - We're coming back

We initially went to the Steak and Ale for a pre dinner drink. We did look at the menu while we were there. We left to go and have dinner elsewhere but decided that none of the other menu's appealed to us as much as the Steak and Ales did so we went back and had a really delicious meal. The staff, vibe, food and cold beers all add to the wonderful experience. We are going back with a big group this weekend before the rugby.

Worth a pie!

A funky young kinda vibe, had the steak and ale pie HUGE! Always good to have some life down in the rocks. Service was good, food was good. Worth a visit if in umhlanga and not too pricey for the volume of food you get. Give it a whirl

Well located establishment.in the centre of all the hustle and bustle of the night life that makes the village a good place to have a good meal .staff are friendly a bit young but efficient.food good value for money and the beers cold

Good simple food which is great value.

Visited for a couple of drinks and dinner. Good attentive staff and the food was great. We had the lamb curry and the fish and chips which were both great and excellent value.

The food is great and our waitress was lovey. The patrons can get a bit rowdy. Found it to be a bit pricy. We would have paid the same amount at a fancier restaurant. But I can imagine it is quite a vibe on a sport's nite!

Shocking and terribly run

Honestly such an amazing waitress, I believe her name was vimby but honestly was unimpressed by anything else, the other waitress’s didn’t seat or acknowledge my husband and I well vimby, who seemed to be the only person working helped us… just seems like a place that exploits young girls
