Food was not bad. They had specials on prawns and chicken curry. We spent around 1 to 2 hours. You can sit outside and enjoy your food while watching the busy life of Uhmlanga.

It was my first time at Durban and I was exited to try authentic Indian curry. But this was a huge disappointment. We have spent couple of hours searching for a good place to try local curry. Reading these reviews gave us an impression that it was worth trying. But to my disgrace and sorrow it was completely misadvertised because of so many reasons.
Service:
The Indian looking waitress with terrible breath took down our orders - vegetarian curry with herbal infusion (hot) and lamb potato curry special (wild). My friend especially asked the owner sitting in the restaurant for mild because she has diverticulitis. Both dishes were confirmed and we were reassured it will be the best curry experience exactly with what we asked for.
Food:
Food arrived after 30+ minutes:
- "Vegetarian herbal infusion" curry had a few dry herbal sticks on top of the plate and was mild with milky-like color. No curry traces whatsoever and the mildest bland dish I have ever tasted. All while I specifically ordered hot and waitress confirmed.
- Lamb potato curry was medium which was far from milk that was ordered. It had two round bones with some meat on and half of potato. They also charged us for the yogurt ordered on the side. When my friend said curry was inedible, the waitress assumed she will pay for second portion of yogurt to mild it down.
Attitude:
- When we asked why the dishes were not what we ordered, the waitress said she had no idea that it was not possible to ask for hot and/or mild flavor. So why did she not say that beforehand???? And we were so hungry - I have not eaten whole day waiting for the amazing curry experience... Because we were so hungry we ate the terrible food we were offered.
- When the bill arrived it was around 400 rands for 2 people's lunch which was outrageously overpriced for horrifying service and third class quality dishes. My friend insisted on asking a better price. The owner arrived at a table and got defensive starting to explain how their dishes are precooked and implying we don't understand their cooking methods. We asked so why they have not told us that beforehand as she specifically asked for mild because of diverticulitis. The waitress remained silent and have not approached the table to clean. They sent kitchen staff to clean it.
- After long negotiations and back and forth arguing with us the owner gave us 10% discount. She compared her place with the 5 star restaurant down the road - is she insane? We were totally shocked. I would expect it was a maximum 3 star restaurant if not the horrible experience we had which was not worthy even 2 stars. Completely disaster!
Horrible place! I do not believe the reviews here after what I saw and tasted. The owner complained there is not much business but now it is clear why.

Had dinner here with friends on a Friday night. Wasn't really busy, but the food spoke for itself. Most enjoyable Indian cuisine. Staff were friendly, adding to the experience.

After a long day staying in Umhlanga on business, I was nostalgic of home cooked food (being from KZN origininally) - I just wanted some good curry!
I am grateful to the hostess, for recommending the mutton curry - I sat on the balcony with a view of the ocean ... and forgot where I was as soon as I started tucking into the food.
Good quality authentic Durban Indian curry ... I'm definitely returning there to try something else on the menu.

We all had done our research and this restaurant kept coming up on radar, so we decided as group, to visit.
What an excellent discovery and we were pleased that that we took a chance.
The food covers an excellent well chosen range, most I found unique. Brilliant condiments that create magic when combined with the mains.
Excellent professional service with a twist of home and humbleness. It was excellent in a nutshell.
The place wasn’t busy which was great, we got extra attention, although I’m sure this will change. Good luck on the new adventure.
If you want to experience food in Natal at its best and off the usual beaten track, be adventurous, skip the preconceived restaurant wants and go on a taste adventure.

Wow looking for the best Curry and Bunny Chow in Uhmlanga. We had such a great experience. We were looking for real Durban curry. Absolutely delicious and owner went our of her way to serve us. A very clean and neat restaurant. Highly recommended. Should be rating 5 star. Tasty authentic food. Good luck and well done.

We arrived at 8pm to an empty resturant and were only guests until we left an hour later. Waitresses were friendly but spoke limited english. Food very tastey but small portions. Lamb curry was particularly good but had a significant portion of bones. I've dined in several indian resturants and these are the smallest portions I have come across. Got the impression that the resturant either opened recently or is not thriving. If not for the tastey food, I would have rated it 2

Good day to you mam.
I am delighted to hear that you found the food tasty, as we pride ourselves on producing the best. I took your order on the day, 1 starter and 1 main meal a lamb curry, shared between 2 adults, as you had advised.
Our meals are weighed, portioned and priced for individual servings, the practice on an a la carte menu.
May I recommend that you order per person on an a la carte menu, so to avoid missing out on a such gastronomic delights.
With warm wishes
Beverly.
Ps. Your pic attached is of the starter and not the lamb curry you mentioned

My son and I were looking for a good curry and found it at Masala Masala. It's very simple, with a short menu, but was excellent at what it did; namely Durban style curry. The owner was very pleasant and made the restaurant a welcome change from the mass of franchise restaurants in Umhlanga.

Everything from the attentive service down to the food was great. A little trouble finding the place. Its upstairs on the main road but not on street level. We all enjoyed our food and it was filling after papadoms to start off and a starter afterwards. We had no room for dersert. Only comment I'd make is its a tad pricely but would definately recommend it if you're looking to have a nice curry.

We stopped for a quick bite or a light lunch after reading some reviews about the place. The food was delicious yet simple. Though very flavourful, felt light on the stomach and the service was excellent. The mix of spices was quite unique and fresh and not the familiar ubiquitous Punjabi style. The fried egg plant starter was tasty but oily. The (Rajma) beans was quite good and the fried fish was really tender and nice. Located on the light house road quite near to the Chartwell road restaurants, this is a place for a change of taste.

The food was way average and VERY SALTY for an Indian woman I'd like to think she can cook better than that especially when it comes to measuring of ingredients. Secondly a samoosa is supposed to be FILLED WITH "dry" filling and not some type of curry further more being authentic Indian cuisine one would expect an authentic samoosa. I'd also try not being in our faces when we're eating that's awkward , the meat was also extremely fatty found alot of fat in our bunnies. Lastly please try not making woman uncomfortable by being so flirty you made my husband so uncomfortable Ps I'm the only woman he has eyes for.
