Beautiful pub with a lovely garden, your hosts make you relaxed and the food is the icing on the cake. Our food was cooked to perfection and presented to a high standard. There is an amazing husband and wife team that run this establishment.
Following the SATNAV is not always a great idea. After a harrowing journey along extremely narrow twisty lanes we were mightily relieved to arrive at the Cartwheel Arms in Whistbury. There is a respectably sized car park. We received a very warm welcome from the...cheerful young server and we were able to choose from any of the widely dispersed tables in the beautiful cottage garden. The food certainly met our high expectations, arriving punctually and with a smile. There was a wide range of options with a number of specials available. Presentation matched the flavours of the main meals. It was good to see the chef doing the rounds of the tables, enjoying friendly banter with the diners. Desserts were interesting as well. We felt that the bill represented good value for money and would have no hesitation in recommending this establishment for its fine cuisine and attractive ambiance. We followed my nose on the way back - a straight shot to Fordingbridge and then main roads.More
We had a meal sat in the gardens of this pub at the weekend. Friendly service, really nice food. My wife is pescatarian and was very pleased with the fish choices. She had seabass and commented that it was perfectly cooked. Overall a pleasant experience...and good food. Card payment only and I was unable to leave a tip for the waitress sadly having no cash.More
We booked at the Cartwheel for our daughter's 30th Birthday gathering that had been delayed, like so many others, for a year. When booking, I mentioned that her favourite was Monkfish and asked if it would be on the menu. They did not put it...on the menu but made is specially for her. We were seated under a pergola which had been decorated with bunting saying Happy Birthday. All the food we had was cooked to the highest quality and having eaten at Michelin starred restaurants in London can honestly say this was very much on a par. Lovely couple from Dumfries run the restaurant. Delighted with the whole experience and are looking to take another holiday locally so that we can go there again. (We were a party of 5, 2 from Cornwall, 2 from London and one from Chichester.More
This was our first visit to The Cartwheel and it will not be our last. The service was excellent. The portions were generous and the quality was excellent. It was good to have a choice of several local beers too.
We booked for a meal on the last night of a week away, what a great way to finish our break. We were greeted warmly and seated in a summer house in the garden which had blankets and a heater to keep us comfortable as...the weather was still chilly. The meal was fab, cooked to order, got and great quality. We shared the cooked meat platter to start then monkfish and steak mains were very tasty followed by chocolate fondant cooked perfectly. We look forward to returning to try some more dishes when we're in the area later on in the year.More
We were invited to the Cartwheel to celebrate a friend’s birthday and a happy birthday banner had been put up above the table which was a really nice touch! The staff were really friendly and very helpful and the food was delicious, clean plates all...round. The garden is really nice with the tables well away from each other. Although this pub isn’t local to us, we will definitely go back and I will recommend it to anyone going that way.More
We visited this pub/restaurant twice post lockdown; once for lunch and once for an early dinner. Menu is concise but varied; service was fantastic and the food was excellent. What was most impressive was how the landlady dealt with a large group that had not...complied with the seating at tables rules - she asked very politely for the groups to sit at their tables and they did so. They also too contact details for visitors and were most definitely on top of the Covid social distancing requirements. Hats off to them! All table service outside and well managed.More
Visited for lunch after the recent reopening, lovely tasty food and drinks, amazing back garden, tables well spaced apart. Annete and the staff were brilliant, attentive and friendly.
Will return soon for more.
