There were 6 of us meeting from all over the country, so it was important to show off our province, and especially our Durbanvile Wine Route, as it gets mocked as inferior compared to Stellenbosch or Franschoek wine routes. Unfortunately they were right. The venue...was lovely and we sat outside next to the pond. However the food, although plentiful, was quantity and not quality. Fish had a thick batter, the chicken pies were salty and not creamy with a grey looking flat pastry lid. The garlic focaccia was dry and the chips were frozen and dry too. I mentioned it to the manager who was clearly annoyed that we dared complain and said that with the amount of people who came there, they couldn't do better. Even Steers can do chips better and I am sure they have many more people buying them than they do. Unfortunately we will not be back there until they get new management and definitely a new chef who can actually cook. Embarrassingly disappointing.More

We popped in here for a Valentine lunch; but the long wait for a simple pizza put a real damper on the Month of Love. We were told that the first pizza broke in the centre when the guy who made it, sliced it. He...then proceeded to start afresh. The second attempt appeared an hour after we placed our order. The table, which was inside, was covered in fine dust/grit_ moving the side plates on the table top surface produced that unmistaken gritty sound. The toilet needs a facelift. When things go wrong in the toilet, I do not want to speculate what happens in the kitchen.....More

Went for Sunday morning breakfast. Waiters seemed tired, preoccupied and disinterested. Got order wrong more than once. Waited long for food, eventually asked manager and then food appeared cold and tasteless. Staff seemed more occupied with cleaning up after wedding and gearing for lunch. Perhaps...just don't offer breakfast then? Rubbish floating on dirty dam and some prickly weeds growing under the fence.More

We had a good couple of hours here where the children were able to blow of some steam in the playground/slides/swings etc. We did what most people did: have an almost undisturbed lunch. If you love MT-Biking, this is a great place to start too....Even a small technical course to practice for the children. Re the food: The pizza was good, with a very nice thin bottom. The burger had a nice relish and a good bun. And the spaghetti for the children wasn’t too oily or greasy. No 5 stars though: Small but always annoying: having to ask for salt&pepper with your meal. Serving the children last (not a good idea when they’re hungry). And the rucola on the pizza wasn’t fresh The service was attentive and mostly quite quick. So a big plus there.More

Everything in this lovely restaurant speaks of quality - from the French Chic furniture to the excellent food presented in such a stylish manner. The Chef, herself came to the table to greet us.

I went to a birthday lunch (not mine) at Bloemendal recently... I was slightly galled that they only allow a set menu (R180 for two courses) for larger groups but thought the food might be worth it. It wasn't. It was shocking. I get better...fare from my corner cafe and for a quarter of the price. Honestly, how this place gets away with offering pizzas and fish-and-chips, with very ordinary desserts (creme brulée, apple crumble) for R180 is beyond me. The venue was chaotic and loud and noisy and just generally kak. Which I could have forgiven, but the food, at that price - it's criminal. Will not be back and advise anyone who will listen to avoid like the plague.More

......we decide to celebrate my 62nd birthday here as we know this is a popular elegant venue that sit on top of a hill in the Durbanville Wine Route & Wine farms! The ride up is a bit rough on the cars you almost need...a 4 X 4 to get to the top safe-lii! Once you get to the Top the Panoramic Views are awesome-lii beautiful and breath-taking! So after all the shaking we were read-ii to indulge in the Buffet Style Fine Dine and we were very happii as the restaurant wasn't very full as always, Mmmm more for us to enjoy! For starters they have soups, sushi and more! The mains are made up of various dishes such as stews, different pies, roast meats & plain & spice-ii types of rices! For desserts they have fruit-salad, trifles and ice cream! So much to choose from! They also have a good wine selection to choose from, we had a bottle of Demmersdal Sauvignon Rose'! Make sure you come on an emptii stomach! Hahahahaha! We had a splendid enjoyable birthday part-ii here! This place is a must visit especial-lii at night from the terrific views!.....................More

We visited the Bloemendal Restaurant for a great buffet today! I must admit, the road leading to the restaurant needs a bit attention with overgrown bushes hanging in the road... But once you get to the top, the views are amazing... The food was great!...We had some good traditional Sunday food... really tasty... Some tripe, a lovely spit, nice potjies, and and and... Really good value for money and worth a visit!More

My husband and his colleagues and staff booked at Bloemendal for their annual staff lunch.. It was booked as a spit roast barbecue with accompaniments. Unfortunately, this is not what they received. What they did receive as a protein, were cold, tough chops which were...badly cut pieces of meat on a bone. Also some mince meat type of dish. There were not enough “chops” and more had to be made. R300 a head is a lot of money for a staff lunch and one expects to get what you are promised and that was a spit roast. Had they known they were going to receive “chops” they would have made alternative arrangements. Although the setting was very beautiful, everyone in their party walked away feeling very disappointed. A restaurant of their calibre should also make provision to have covers over all the dishes to prevent flies from entering the dishes. They decided, this year, to give Bloemendal, which came recommended, a chance, but unfortunately it did not work out as expected. Never again!More

We went with large family group and the signature menu with SA favourites is much the same than when I visited for a wedding reception ten years ago. More than enough food for a fully booked sitting! Buffet is by nature an expensive meal option...as one can eat only so much and no more! The views are a bit hazy midday in summer, nonethless breathtaking. Amazed that the parking area was not upgraded in all these years , the sharp rocks will surely cost someone a tyre after dusk or sunset! The furniture and the doors need varnish , the tables some flowers or decoration and the garden some attendance please, the location is worth the effort!More
