About
Hillcrest Estate is a boutique winery, nestled in the Tygerberg Hills on the outskirts of Durbanville. Only a 30-minute drive from Cape Town, this unique estate offers visitors a host of activities, a casual style restaurant, delicious olives and award winning wines. It is the terroir of the farm's vineyards, cooled by afternoon sea breezes from the Atlantic Ocean, which sets it apart in one of the prime growing grape regions of the Western Cape. Hillcrest's well-drained slopes are differentiated into Oakleaf, Hutton and Clovelly types soils, yielding distinctive fruit and great wines. The vineyards are overlain and strewn with "Hornfels", a metamorphic rock generated by the geological compression

Food was quite average. Atmosphere is vibrant if you like a pub-type vibe. The service was absolutely terrible. The staff were incredibly unprofessional; the front of house did not greet us, there were waiters on their phone and listening to music with their earphones. The...restaurant was also extremely dirty.More

….What brought us here was the sign we saw on the road which displayed “Olive Tasting” and being a wine estate we were sure there is also wine tasting. Its a nice drive in to get to the Hill-Crest restaurant which also has a Beer-garden....The restaurant is much bigger in the outside seating area but inside is not to bad. The wine tasting area is niff-tii and only seats about 10 patrons at five tables while the centre of the room is filled with barrels stacked with the “Saartjie” brand wines which is a product of Hill-Crest wines. We ordered an Olive Platter with the Red-Tasting at R 100.00 for 6 tastings. It was an enjoyable experience to visit here. All the staff were friend-lii and very respectful. If you were sitting down for a meal outside you also enjoy the incredible picturesque view of the surrounding vineyard and the Atlantic Ocean in the distance to the west….NB! Covid-19 Safety Policy in place as at the entrance all passengers in the vehicle must have their temperatures checked and No Mask No entree. Hand Sanitiser Spray bottles are all around the restaurant….More

I have driven past Hillcrest almost every day for 2 years but never stopped or visited. We decided to go for brunch and what an awesome surprise!!! The food was sensational and the service from Stella was excellent!! U have to try the corn and...zucchini fritter! We opted for wine tasting and gin tasting! Just as fabulous, u have to have the Semillon and the Grapefruit Beershandy!! I will be back again, this will become a firm favourite!! Thank u Hillcrest for an awesome experience!More

I sent an email booking request on Tuesday, the 22nd September for a table at 1.30pm on Thursday, the 24th Sept, knowing they would be busy as it was a Public Holiday. I received a response asking if I would like a table outside, to...which I responded yes. We arrived at 1.41pm, slightly later than what I had booked, but not by much, only to be told by the manager that she had been unable to secure an outdoor table and we would have to sit inside. She led us to a table right at the back of the restaurant and said she would move us to an outside table as soon as one became available. She then ignored us for the rest of our time there and we watched her seat various other patrons at tables outside. We moved ourselves to a slightly better table once it became available. We ordered the special of the day, which was average at best. The ribs were way too salty and the pork belly undercooked. The fact that both my partner and I had upset stomachs later in the day makes me wonder what all that salt was hiding! The only positive was the attentive waiter who did a great job despite the restaurant being very busy. Also, with Covid-19 still being a threat, there was no social distancing being practiced and the place looked over full when we arrived. All in all, a poor first experience at what I had heard was a great venue .More

Bathrooms are disgusting. Food so so. Buy worse of all no social distancing and none of their waiters wearing their masks over their noses.

We visited the restaurant in the midst of the Covid19 crisis, two days before total lockdown in South Africa. There was a hand sanitizing station at the entrance, and signs on the tables that they too had been sanitized. Due to the abnormal circumstances the...restaurant was very quiet. Despite this everything on the menu was available except the chicken pie. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. We ordered burgers and sliders, which were great. The Death by Chocolate pudding was delicious! It is a sad time for restaurants all over the world, and we hope that they will all recover from these incredible setbacks, continuing to serve us for many years to come.More

Hillcrest offer a friendly and personal wine tasting experience. We concentrated on white wines, and were pleased to find that we could select across any of the three ranges (you pay a small amount per wine tasted). Our host was knowledgeable, able to answer questions...well off-script, and the tasting area was intimate and not crowded. Recommended.More

After a morning of planning, we went for lunch on a Thursday afternoon. A very relaxing vibe, i had a very tasty pizza. We did wait quite a while for our food considering there were maybe 3 tables. A couple of years ago they were...known for their chicken pie. I recommended the chicken pie to 2 colleagues but it was very disappointing - a lovely crust but once you cut into it, it was like chicken soup. My colleague said she would not return again but i might.More

Group of friends arrived at 11:20 - we were given the full menus, but when it came to ordering, we were told quite rudely that only pizzas could be ordered. We ordered them, only to see those around us (at about 11:50) being served both...breakfast and lunch options. The waiter was only friendly when i approached someone who looked like the manager. Other times he was just unpleasant and mean. It was as though being rude was ok because it’s a popular spot.More

I have not been to Hillcrest in years. Back then it was quaint, hot and nothing special if I'm being honest. Fast forward to 2020 - what a big difference. We saw a gin tasting ad & that's what brought us back. We saw about...60% of people doing the gin tasting while we were there. Fantastic gin available by Beer works. We had an amazing waitron (Amos), & all staff there were professional. The busiest person was the barman! We had starters: calamari & jalapeño poppers - excellent. For mains, we had pizza, one of the best out there. Very satisfying. For beer lovers, i recommend the lager out of the Havoc brew. I tasted them all and it was the best and i like a variety. Very cold & light. Best lunch out in a long while, did not disappoint!More
