We stayed here for 2 nights and thought there was some really nice touches. Lovely setting and gardens, nice to have a choice of restaurants on site, great breakfast and nice touch to do afternoon tea. I wasn’t that impressed with the accommodation though. The...floor didn’t look very clean and it smelt very musty in the room. Our room was also very small so wouldn’t want to have stayed any longer. Our accommodation wasn’t somewhere I would want to spend time in other than for sleeping.More

I fail to see how this is 5* accommodation. The grounds are stunning and food incredible. But the accommodation itself is not. The suites are old country cottages which look beautiful from the outside but inside they have not been completed with a membrane, therefore...they are open to dirt and bugs, which fall freely on you and your belongings. The floor is woven rope which is impossible to clean, it holds a multitude of sins and looked filthy. Worst of all our cottage spelt terrible, a very pungent animal urine smell. We were told it was the smell of wet thatch, but we were sure one of the many baboons had urinated in the room. The baboons are everywhere and if you don’t close your doors and windows they are straight in, and are known for being aggressive. The bathroom was old and run down and in need of an upgrade and we were bitten terribly. To finish it off, the manager was very rude when we complained so customer service was non existence, he agreed the room smelt but didn’t seem to see why we wouldn’t want to stay in a stinking room! Finally another manager said they would do a deep clean, only that night fir us to find a lizard next to the bed, it looked like it had been dead for a while, so I question their cleanliness. When reported their response was ‘oh dear!’ Overall the worst place we have stayed in our travels round SA and it’s such a shame as the story behind Hunters was beautiful, I just hope the owners read this and can look to amend for future visitors.More

We wanted to have dinner at one of the Hunter's House restaurants (we chose the bistro in the conservatory) as well as getting a feel for what it might be like to stay in the hotel. The residential cottages looked very pleasantly laid out but...it's quite a long dirt road up to the property from the main road which would deter us from staying. However, the Conservatory restaurant was delightful although the high open thatched roof wasn't expected.Tables were set more luxuriously than expected for an apparent bistro. We were also able to pay corkage to bring along one of our bottles from a local winery visit. Our starters of fresh salad and one of mussels were lovely as were the mains - a chicken breast and a mushroom tagliatelle. We shared a lovely affogato dessert. So, it turned out to be an unexpectedly good dinner, not at all like a bistro in a conservatory. It's certainly worth the visit for a meal.More

We were fortunate enough to spend three nights here. It was as close to paradise as you can get. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and it’s delightful to spend an hour or two exploring. Outstanding service and luxurious suites without being stuffy or pretentious. We...travel extensively and this is definitely one of the best places we’ve ever stayed. Highly recommended.More

Hunter's is a really unique country house set amongst beautiful grounds. You can even spot deer when going for a stroll. The restaurants were excellent and staff really great. I would definitely recommend to those who love a traditional property.

My husband and I spent 3 nights here on honeymoon. Our lodge was absolutely beautiful. The lodges are surrounded by beautiful gardens. We ate in the house on the first night, food was delicious and they printed a special welcome message on the menu for...us. For the next two nights we ate in Zinzi, on the grounds of Hunters, the food was delicious here too. We had an early start on one morning so the staff kindly provided us with a breakfast to take with us, really nice touch. Would highly recommend Hunters Country House.More

Probably the nicest hotel we’ve stayed in. The setting was terrific and the rooms outstanding - great to get our own fire lit each night. The three restaurants were different but equally fabulous with really attentive staff. A real holiday highlight

We loved the setting outside next to the boma area where we could take in the fantastic garden with little sunbirds flitting around us. Personal service was friendly without being familiar as we enjoyed a peaceful long lunch. The food was top notch, my steak...and my partners fish perfectly cooked and seasoned. I will be back for another lunch but also one evening to enjoy sitting in the boma with the camp fire which starts at 6pmMore

We went here for my husband’s birthday and it was just wonderful. We’d been there a few years previously for our anniversary. Beautiful grounds and gardens, several options for dining, a pool, bikes to rent and good walking. The cottages are so lovely! They also...made it very special for us when I pre-advised them that it was my husband’s birthday. It was just a wonderful stay and we will definitely return!More
