Thank you for another wonderful experience Adel and team. We so appreciate your originality and the commitment you have made to sustainability, promotion of local producers and investment in local talent. Once again - each course was a fresh delight with new flavours and textures...and exquisitely artisitic presentation. We absolutely relished the wines too, each one was perfectly selected as a complement to each course. We've seen one or two unfavourable reviews on the forum - they utterly miss the point and should stick to Wimpy or some R99 for 'all you can eat' buffet or similar. We hope you're not discouraged and that instead you're inspired - all great artists have their detractors. We were lucky enough to eat at Wolfgat which was also sublime. It's almost impossible to get in there so anyone reading this review - don't think of Oep ve Koep as somehow a lesser compromise - you will experience originality, tastes that you've never dreamed of and a really friendly, laid back atmosphere with lovely staff. We really appreciate the fact that you're still out front and sharing the love you have for your food and your team Adel - baie dankie, and see you again.More

Scraps foraged from the sea masquerading as gourmet food. We did not enjoy a single course but persisted hoping it would get better. Just to give an example of how uninspiring it was- one of the courses was a piece of sweet potato with a...side of fried potato. Such a disappointing but costly experienceMore

This really was a treat , As we were travelling we did not have the wine paired lunch . However the lunch was sublime - absolutely the best meal of our holiday , The attention to detail of the staff from the first moment is...staggering. The explanation of each course by the Chef was amazing - well worth the effortMore

We visited and dined all over Paternoster. But this was the most unique. A set menu mixing fine dining with local ingredients. If you are into something different, this is not to be missed.

Our favorite thing to do while traveling (like many people!) is exploring the best restaurants a city has to offer. After spending 3+ weeks traveling in/around Cape Town, lunch at Oep v Koep was absolutely our most delicious and memorable experience. The restaurant itself is...very quaint, and took extra precautions due to COVID-19 which was greatly appreciated. The food was unique and delicious, we felt we learned so much about the local delicacies of the area - I had to document every dish as each course was more beautiful than the last! I have celiac and required gluten free dishes, they were more than accommodating and even made me the most delicious Braaibroodjie on their homemade gf bread.More

We enjoy Paternoster and have stayed there on a number of occasions. There are number of good restaurants, one or two very good. We ate at Oep ve Koep a number of years ago when Kobus van der Merwe was the chef there and were...impressed. He has now found fame at his restaurant Wolfgat although he still owns Oep ve Koep. Wofgat was named Restaurant of the Year and Best off-Map Restaurant at the World Restaurant Awards recently. The Head Chef now at Oep ve Koep is Adel Hughes who became a fan of Van der Merwe's style of Stranveld cuisine and now is a protege of and mentored by Kobus. Our lunch was taken in the garden of Die Winkel Op which has rustic atmosphere and is the home of number of ingredients of the dishes that we consumed. There was a set menu of five courses which could be paired with mainly Darling wines. The dishes comprised fascinating combinations of local ingredients such as limpets, kelp, seaweed, oysters, kudu, roibos leaf smoked angel fish, wild sage milk tart. This was a fascinating thoroughly enjoyable experience for someone who is essentially a carnivore. The meal was produced as a smooth running team effort. Kobus must be proud of his protege!More

An unexpected birthday gift arranged by my son, from Cape Town, whilst we were on a mid week break in Paternoster. We were warmly welcomed and seated at a lovely table for two under a shady tree, at a rustic table, laid and set with...all the necessaries to meet Covid regulations. The menu is fixed and prepared using freshly foraged greens, mussels, oysters and locally sourced supporting ingredients. Chef Adele, helped by her long standing and experienced team, gave us a description of what we were about to receive, which utensils to use and for which dishes they were needed. And then the roller coaster of experiences began, all introduced and explained by Adele herself and Lizaan our waitress, Each course, small as it looked, was a sensory experience of taste, color and texture, accompanied by a great wine list 3 hours and 5 courses later, happy, replete and blown away by what we had just savored we left after buying locally made jams, coffee biscuits and lovely hand cream products. We can highly recommend the Oep Vir Koop Bistro which is so popular already that bookings need to be made quite far in advance! The service was superb, the setting unpretentious and comfortable and the whole experience a first for us!More

I was expecting something special, and my very high expectations were exceeded. One of the most memorable meals ever. Taking the freshest local ingredients and presenting them in new and innovative ways to deliver a truly unique and most enjoyable experience. I cannot say enough...about the wonderful flavour combinations. Chef Adele is a culinary magician, well done, you made me very happy.More

Stoped off here after buying fresh fish on the beach for a coffee and pastry - just really nice. Also freshly baked bread which we had at our rented fisherman cottage for lunch and dinner - scrumptious.

We had the Strandveld food experience lunch today. It was simply sublime. This is the new world of food. The freshest ingredients caught and foraged locally and prepared so delicately. Absolutely stunning. Can’t recommend it highly enough. Chef Adel Hughes delivered each plate to us...personally along with an explanation of each dish. The serving staff were wonderful and the drinks list supports the local wine makers. Super local and super fabulous. We can’t wait to return for our breakfast booking! Perfect.More
