We ate at a number of the restaurants in Paternoster and in our opinion this was very much one of the best. Unlike others it is not relying on sea views for patronage, instead it is serving very good food and wine at decent prices. Our experience was totally enjoyable and the waiter made us feel as if we were in a friends dining room rather than just another table at another restaurant. Well worth a visit but make sure you book in advance as for obvious reasons The Noisy Oyster is very popular.

This was an excellent Sunday lunch. The atmosphere was one of easy sophistication and the service was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, starting with Angels on horseback (an innovative and delicious way to serve oysters). We had two different but very enjoyable seafood main courses and suites. All in all a real treat.

having booked for 2 we were welcomed and seated without delay and presented with a decent menu aimed to capture all tastes. We chose oysters as starter followed by red snapper and then catalan custard flan. All were delicious and hit the spot.Restaurant is rather quirky but very acceptable and staff were good.

Was so looking forward to this meal! I was disappointed by the lack of bread on the table, lack of a water pitcher on the table. Lack of napkins. Service was prompt and the wait was not too long for the kitchen to provide bland rubbery calamari, a tiny tartare starter (literally two inches wide and half an inch thick) but tasty. Mains were a fish soup and a whole gurnard, pan fried to dryness. I had a piece of tart for dessert which was so dry I couldn’t eat it. It was deducted from my bill. What a shame! The Cederberg Shiraz 2017 was a knockout!

I feel somewhat conflicted writing this review and would like to give 3 1/2 stars but that's not an option. We'd been recommended the restuarant by a friend so were dissapointed that we couldn't get a table despite getting in touch almost a week ahead. But we were offered a place on the waiting list which we were grateful for. We didn't hear anything but decided to pop in just in case. Lo and behold there was a table available (infact two or more) but we weren't contacted. A dissapointing start.
Our table offered a good view of the restuarant enabling us to appreciate the buzz and the restuarant's style, which make this place so popular. The menu was varied and fun. I ordered the squid but unfortunately the olives that came with it didn't work for me. My husband's oysters and fish were better.
Staff were friendly and helpful but the restuarant felt a bit disorganised and inefficient. Our experience should and could have been great and would be so with a few tweaks, such as sorting out a reservation system that contacts diners on a waiting list and doesn't leave tables going empty! A shame but perhaps we just had a unfortunate experience.

We spent 4 nights in paternoster with family and, based on previous excellent dining at The Noisy Oyster, suggested we book fort one evening. It was so disappointing. Most of us ordered the oysters... they were "mucked about with". Flesh separated from the shell, juices poured out and then oyster back in a random shell. (Or maybe they were frozen and just put into shells, I dont know). So disappointing and not at all the experience we enjoyed a few years before. Waiter just shrugged "it makes them easier to eat, people like it". Well, we didnt. And we were eating so maybe you should ask how patrons want them. And the restuarant was packed with little social distances (covid time)

I am anaphylaxis to tree nuts. I said this over the phone before ordering our meal with noisy oyster. I know they heard me as they immediately told me I could not have the Laksa as it contained nuts. Upon sitting down and eating my first bite of the "nut free" food we were served, I immediately knew by mouth felt weird. I told the waiter to please check if our food had nuts, and he defensively told me it did not. I asked again a few minutes later to be told once again, there was no way where were any nuts. I then said a third time "listen, I have had a nut allergy for thirty years, I know when I have eaten nuts and there are nuts in something I ate." Suddenly the waiter said "ahh yes, the calamari has pesto. Im not sure what is in it, maybe cashews." Upon checking with the chef, it was confirmed that indeed, the calamari mad cashews.
Now, cashews are my worst nut- just one bite can send me to hospital. Thank god I had my epi pen on me and was able to act quickly.
The waiter showed zero remorse, concern, regret. Even worse, when my friend offered to still pay (which she should not have...at the time i was giving myself my epi pen in the parking lot) - the venue accepted.
Thank god I did not listen to the noisy oyster and discontinued eating the calamari even after they swore they were no nuts. Otherwise I perhaps would not be alive to write this review.
Truly disgusted at the noisy oyster. Do not recommend if.you have any sort of food intolerance.

Seated in a whimsically decorated courtyard we received efficient service with a smile by very friendly waiting staff. They very graciously also accommodated our dogs. The seafood laksa is absolutely extraordinary, with a hit of chilli and aromatic coconut milk. The baked Panga with leeks and capers and the mussels in tomato sauce were also good. We finished with a decadent chocolate torte. Fantastic experience.

The place was very interesting with lots of local art and cosy atmosphere. There were plenty of fires around to ward of the cold. There were even blankets on the benches for those especially susceptible to the chill which was a lovely touch. The menu is a comical touch with a variety of food from seafood, to red meat to vegetarian options. Great place to spend with friends and enjoy a meal together.

Good service, but food was at best average. Over an hour between starter and main. The seafood laksa was overcooked and unbalanced. The gurnard line fish was again overcooked but certainly better than the laksa. Not in a rush to return.

We are regulars, or we like to think of ourselves as such but I know that due to the wonderful food and friendly atmosphere that they have loads of regulars. Therefore you definitely need to book in advance for dinner and it is advisable to do so for lunch so as not to be disappointed. We visit SA twice a year and always fit in 3 to 4 visits, more if we can to the Noisy. The menu is large enough that you don’t have to have the same dish twice. Although once you find a favorite I am sure you will be sorely tempted to do so. The menu changes each season so they can wow you with something new. A wonderful array of flavor flourishes that are so good we sometimes have 2 or 3 and skip the mains. A friend of mine says the do the best steak he has tasted. Fish dishes change depending on what is available. Interesting flavor combinations. Recommended

We were a party of 13 and we were welcomed and treated like old friends even though it was the first time we were there.
Peter our waiter was brilliant and kept us entertained and happy. The food was 1000 x better than what you can get in a big city. Well done the team there. Prices were good and the food outstanding.
We will definitely go back there again when we are on the west coast and will recommend the noisy oyster to everybody.

We were here again in November and twice in December. It is obvious that we like this restaurant very much. The vibe is always a bit seaside hippy. The menu has been revamped with some of the classics; oysters, hake, steak and some wonderful new additions like the vegan tartar, smoked tuna, Greek salad starters and the lentil vegetarian moussaka which we can recommend. Everything has a Noisy Oyster twist. We were there again yesterday; we both had oysters (a must if you are going to a place called the Noisy Oyster) my wife had the Greek salad which she says is the best she has ever tasted, yes the Noisy even managed to put a twist on a Greek salad. I had the vegan tartar which was very flavoursome, I am not a vegetarian but would certainly order this again. We both had the peppered steak and chips and again, there is a Noisy twist with a beetroot pickle and a smear of mustard both adding to the flavours. Fantastic friendly service. Highly recommend this restaurant again, can only advise that you book in advance as they are often booked out.

Immediately loved the atmosphere as we entered the restaurant for dinner. Staff was friendly and swiftly served our drinks. Had the snoek croquettes for a starter and was amazing with that gazpacho mayo. That's about how good it gets. Wife had the seafood laksa and myself the Gurnard fish. We have waited more than an hour for our food while being constantly told it's nearly ready. Not the worst but it was not the worth the wait.
The laksa was too spicy too her taste and I don't think the Gurnard was fresh - the oil and spices was just a bit overpowering and it's really challenging eating a fish with so many bones in a dark setting by candlelight.
Overall we had a pleasant evening and would like to go back and give it another try.
