Our first takeaway from here. Staff were very friendly while we waited for our order and the food was very tasty and fresh My only small gripe was it was on the more expensive side for Indian and they do lack a variety of vegetarian options. But overall - a v nice experience.

Reasonably priced and good food.

Called in without a booking on Saturday night and had a lovely meal- I had the Dansak which was pleasantly hot and my partner enjoyed the milder Massanda. Had the ice creams after as a treat and to cool down. Reasonably priced and good service.

Nice food

The food was nice. We ordered three different curries. Chicken tikka masala, a lamb Korai and a chicken tikka dansak. (With pilau rice and peshwari naan). Some of the tubs of Currys didn't come completely full which was a bit of a shame but they tasted nice. The lamb came in very small cubes as well rather than being nice big pieces. Everything was boiling hot and fresh. This won't be my new regular Indian though.

Disappointing

Thought we would treat ourselves to a takeaway Christmas Eve, knew that prices had gone up considerably (for at least the dish I normally have) a few months earlier however what was really disappointing on this occasion was both the quality and quantity of food. Both myself and partner thought Chicken was low grade and containers were only half full at best. Sauce was good (whilst not much of it) and staff were friendly but in short we won't be going back which is a real shame as quite a drive to alternatives.

Hugely Disappointing

I'm sorry to say that this was one of the worst Indian meals we've ever had. The Peshwari Chicken was completely and utterly tasteles, no trace of any spices not even any salt. In a blind taste test I would not have had the faintest idea what I was eating. The Cauliflower Bhajee was no beter. Lamb Dupiaza was fractionally better but only just, aided by the presence of onions. The Brinjal Bhajee was equally lack lustre. Judging from the previous good reviews, I can only guess that they have a different chef now.

We ordered a takeaway

We ordered a takeaway to be delivered about 2 miles from the restaurant. It was an order for over £80 and they added £3 for delivering it, without any warning. The food was very disappointing and we will not be ordering again. The rice was old and had been re heated. My lamb madras was a mixture. Part of it was good quality and well cooked with nice pieces of lamb. the other part had different coloured sauce and had tough uncooked pieces of lamb and gristle. Not pleasant

Excellent!

We have been to the Eastern Promise twice now and have thoroughly enjoyed both visits. The food is hot, very tasty and there is a huge choice. The flavours are excellent and fresh-tasting. On both occasions we ate early and the restaurant was starting to get busy even at that time. It is very obvious that many people were regulars, which is always a good indication of a good eating place! We must mention the friendly and helpful staff - we have been to many Indian restaurants where the service is efficient but the staff make no effort to engage with their customers - not so here, we were made to feel welcome and the waiters spent time chatting with diners which is so lovely to see. Can’t wait to go again!

Top quality!

Although we only had a take away the whole meal was perfect. The depth of flavour was amazing and no hint of oilyness in any dishes. The colours of some dishes are not as vibrant as you may be used to , so no glow in the dark food! Highly recommended.

WORTH VISITING

I havent visited this restaurant for a long time as, like most Indian restaurants nowadays, it doesn’t open for lunch. We were a large party of 20+ and they looked after us very well. Most importantly all the food was very good. I would strongly recommend to all curry lovers. As an extra bonus they have a very reasonably priced house wine.

Take away failure - poor customer service

Placed order for delivery, 20 min after expected delivery called to be told food had left and should be with me shortly. Another 25min later I phone again to be told there was a technical issue. No offer of any gesture of good will. Cancelled order and won’t use again due to terrible customer service

Unexpected-Gem

On a quiet Sunday night after new year .... the food was amazing and very tasty.... all dishes were delicious 👍. The staffs were great, attentive, friendly - just a very good & unexpected experience in this little English town... & they had Kingfisher beer 😃. Would highly recommend if in the area. (Toronto - visitors)

Very rude staff

We only wanted some bread and poppadums. When we arrived we were charged and paid on the card. While we were waiting for our order, we were asked if we paid, we said we did. Next minute they’re talking foreign and accusing us of not paying, holding back the food and making us look like criminals in front of other customers. Eventually got the food, came home to find no meat in the keema Nan (£4.15!) We phoned back after we had eaten to complain and he denied he was rude and put the phone down on us, no apology obviously. For a nice little village they are not a very nice restaurant!!

Amazing - always

We would like to thank the team at Eastern Promise. We have been frequent customer in house but more recently take away. We had a takeaway tonight again and it was truly outstanding. Thank you for continuing to be there and providing amazing food. Peter & Claire

Disappointing 😞 😞

Nice restaurant, we had chicken tikka starter which I think wasn't cooked in the tandoor as it had no colour to it and was very moist, my partner had vegetable dhansak which she said was nice, I had chicken madras which had nice amount of spice but sauce was like water, bombay aloo was cooked nicely but had no spice to it, garlic naan was not garlicky at all, keema naan had plenty of meat in it, onion bhajis were over cooked and very small. This restaurant was a lot better in the past, we haven't been here for a few years and we won't be returning anytime soon.

Visited on a cold January weekday evening and were the only diners. Staff friendly and welcoming. The food was good but nothing outstanding Location worked for us as staying nearby
