Excellent food and service including Christmas lunch

We chose Moorcroft Manor for our Christmas holiday because of the good reviews of the quality of the food in the restaurant and we were not disappointed. The food was very good at all meals from breakfast through lunches and dinners. Even when the staff were very busy preparing for Christmas lunch the next day they made the effort to give us a tasty lunch. Unlike most hotel Christmas lunches, all the food was carefully prepared and very tasty, it did not at all feel like a mass catering experience. Each table received a platter of starters, soup, platter of mains and a dessert platter. The staff happily accommodated our need for a break between mains and desserts and we enjoyed relaxing in the garden. We were also able to save the leftovers and have it for dinner that night. The friendly and helpful staff and the delicious food made our stay most enjoyable.

Best in the Berg

Kudos to the management and staff of Moorcroft Manor who have maintained their amazing standard of excellence during these very difficult times. A family favourite, we always enjoy a delicious lunch (or two) at Moorcroft Manor during our annual holiday to Underberg. The establishment has gone to great lengths in adhering to Covid protocols and we were particularly impressed with the way in which the inside dining area has been set up to ensure adequate social distancing. The addition of stylish protective screens separating tables and patrons indoors is great and there are plenty of outside tables too. It is comforting to know that sanitisation is taken very seriously by management and staff alike, something which is amiss in most restaurants at the moment. The food and service was excellent, as always. We highly recommended Moorcroft Manor, the best dining experience in the southern Drakensberg!

A Good Night Out

Revamped with new décor in the bar / lounge area left mixed reviews. The ambiance was lacking and an almost sterile vibe was greeted us on arrival. The dining experience was good. The staff greeted us and served the first drinks promptly. Food was of a high standard and we could not fault it. However, service to refill drinks was a bit slow. Overall a pleasant evening and they have done well to protect their patrons with tasteful divisions within the restaurant.

Terrible experience, very disappointing

I have just came back from dinner from this place, we waited for over and hour for our main course, the kids chicken strips were raw, we sent it back and we had to eat our dinner while our kids waited, our waiter didn’t even offer us a second drink or desert, we had to eventually take the kids meals as takeaway as they were so hungry, irritable and tired. We regret going here and wasting our money. We will never go to this restaurant again.

A terrible dinning experience

What a terrible dinning experience. We had the ladies fillet,which wasn't cooked to our request, my side dish arrived more than halfway through my meal and the vegetables were over cooked. Our waitress was aweful to say the least, she was not interested or well trained and we cut our evening short and skipped dessert. A big disappointment for an evening we were so looking forward to.

Delicious Dinner With Fantastic Service

We had dinner here after a recommendation from another local establishment. We were not disappointed. Food was absolutely delicious, of a high standard, and strict covid protocols were in place. Service was great, our Waitress was so friendly & well trained. The only downside was that the dessert I had I could've eaten two of. LOL. Almond citrus cake with caramelised oranges - try it- I was tempted to order another! I had seafood pasta which was fabulous, with a slight bite, and my Son had Bacon & Brie Fillet. Cooked to perfection. All polished off with a well priced bottle of wine. Lovely experience. Great to see local restaurants managing to do what they are doing during such difficult times.

Not what I expected

Surprisingly, the food was very Asian style oriented. When I saw a pea soup on the menu, I immediately ordered it, as one of my favorite. It came out to be very spicy and almost hot. It was OK, but the spices were covering the taste of the peas... I then ordered the pork belly. I was surprised to sea Chinese noodles with pieces of pork belly at the bottom. The sticky ginger pudding was OK, but not really the type of dessert you serve at a fine dining restaurant.

Thank you for your review. We are fortunate to cater to a great variety of guests, local residents as well as travellers from all over the world. The restaurant menu reflects this and also the background of the owners and the chefs by offering African (Senegalese pea soup), British, Mediterranean and local dishes. To avoid surprises each item on the menu is followed by a detailed description of its contents and the manner of preparation.

Compliments to the Chef & top notch service

A chilly August Monday in the middle of a pandemic cannot possibly be counted as their "busy" time. However, despite significantly reduced staff, there was no lack of attention or lowered standards here. We were so well looked after and our meal was excellent. We will definitely be back. We look forward to it!

The service was great, the setting is fantastic, and the food was divine. Best steak I’ve ever had (the chateaubriand). The fire place also makes the place very cosy and warm. Highly recommend.

Amazing Dinner

Moorcroft Manor is an excellent restaurant with a lovely atmosphere and delightful staff. I was taken their on Monday for my birthday and we all enjoyed it so much we returned on the Wednesday - there can be no greater compliment than that!

A beautifully presented meal, full of wonderful flavours. The menu is excellent with great service and a warm welcome and fireside seating on a cold, rainy day, it was the best place to celebrate a special birthday.

Beautiful setting, with friendly staff and great menu. I had Natal curry which was delicious, and beautifully presented my sister had fish and chips which was done to perfection and the apple pudding with custard was amazing 😋
