We stopped over at this little spot of "haven" after a downpour just as we finished a stunning 4 hour hike along the Gxalingenwa River.
And what a lovely respite we found in this gem of a cafe along the main road in Himeville.
The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly and the food is fresh, wholesome and satisfied all our senses in the brief visit we had just before closing time at 4pm.
I had the beautifully presented sesame-crusted chicken salad with Asian slaw and my hubby had the homemade fish cakes with salad. Both were amazingly authentic in flavor.
The serious cappuccino seriously warmed my body from within, after being properly soaked in the rain!
There is also a small selection of deli and decor products for sale, always a delight to peruse in these quaint little towns.
A perfect ending to yet another adventurous, yet peaceful day in the Southern Berg 🤗

This is what you hope for, when you make a stop in a small village. Friendly service, lovely food and a tranquil athmosphere in in the lovely garden.
We had a lovely vegetarian option, and the classic fish and chips, both very well executed; and the most delicious homemade icecream that rival any brand we’ve tasted before - a must try

This restaurant is now called The Whistling Goat. I popped in quickly for a coffee and was given the warmest welcome by owner Charisse and the delightful barista / waiter Chris. It was late morning and I wasn’t really hungry, so I went along with Chris’ recommendation of Walnut Pie (he warned me it’s quite sweet). The cappucino was smooth and just perfect! The Walnut pie reminded me of a Millionaire’s shortbread topped with tasty, crunchy walnuts and decadent caramel - a sweet explosion of flavours! They serve it with cream or ice-cream. I sat outside on an inviting patio next to the lush garden. What a joy! My only regret was that I wasn’t able to go back there with my husband for lunch - the menu looked absolutely mouthwatering! Well done to chef Chris and the whole team.

Hi there -thank you for taking time to write a review. Please note that the Whistling Goat and Stone House Kitchen are in no way aligned. Stone House Kitchen did not become The Whistling Goat. We are fully operational directly opposite the museum still trading as Stone House Kitchen serving delicious lunches and dinners.
Warm regards

This restaurant is actually called the Whistling Goat. We visited on a random Tuesday. I had a Halloumi burger and the best ever chocolate cake with coffee icing. My husband had napoletana pasta and a slice of freshly baked bread with jam. The food was absolutely delicious and scrumptious. So fantastic that vegans are catered for. The hosts go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and welcome. Cannot wait to visit again!

The SHK provided packed lunches for 2 days of our hiking trip on the Giants Cup Trail. The sandwiches were both very, very tasty and filling, and were accompanied by high quality dried food, sweet treats, juice and nuts. More than adequate to fuel our hiking! We were very very pleased.

Gem of a find on our way to sani. Quaint venue, awesome food served happily by great team of ladies. All our meals were very tasty - particularly the sesame chicken with Asian slaw and beef curry on the day. Wish we’d stayed for pudding, which looked amazing!

We had been travelling SA for 10 days - we had an early dinner here and it was the best meal of our trip! Even with loadshedding we got an excellent steak and lovely vegetables and the ambience by candle light was just special. We would highly recommend this restaurant to all travellers. Thank you

Although it seems some recent reviews have confused the Stone House Kitchen with the Whistling Goat (which is right next door), the SHK is very much still the same lovely lunch or tea venue it’s always been. It’s a definite stop on my yearly visit to the Drakensburg. Best food options in a stunning setting, the food is always delicious and the coffee is always incredible.
It is a must visit, even if just for a cup of tea and some cake! 🌸

My sister and I had an exceptional dining experience here yesterday. The varied menu was unique, the food delicious and the service efficient and friendly. The surroundings are relaxed and tranquil. We'll certainly be back as soon as we're in the area again and can highly recommend Stone House Kitchen.

We had breakfast here, while staying at a hotel in the area for the long weekend. Such a warm, friendly reception, and it was obvious that it was well supported by local people, with everyone being treated in the same manner. There was a lovely vibe. I had eggs benedict with salmon, and my Son had a full breakfast. Both were delicious and their coffee was too. I was hoping for a scone, which didn't happen, but not to worry - their chocolate brownies were superb!!! Just the right amount of goo! LOL. Covid protocols were in place, we were wishing our dogs were with us, as they are also welcome. A super friendly spot, with delicious food to boot.

There is a cosy interior with a centre fireplace for those cold winter days,. However we chose to sit outdoors in the side garden, The staff are welcoming and the owner super friendly. Their food is prepared fresh every day and beautifully presented. The ladies both thoroughly enjoyed the quiches with salad, while the men opted for a massive hamburger and pie of the day.

What a very special find. A hidden gem. :) We celebrated a very special friends birthday lunch at SHK and it was simply fabulous. The food was so delicious. Everything was sampled from spring rolls with the most heavenly Asian dipping sauce to fish and chips, burgers, fillet and pulled pork. Highly recommend SHK. Thank you Bev

We were spoilt to a wonderful Sunday lunch at The Stone House Kitchen, the food was excellent and well priced. Roast lamb was perfect for a cold winter's day. Bread and butter pudding should not be missed.
Wheelchair and pet friendly so everyone in our party was comfortable.
