UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT 11/9/2017 Welcome to the Castle Inn pub You are assured of a warm welcome at the wonderfully characterful Castle Inn. Situated in the East Sussex coastal village of Pevensey Bay (just to the east of Eastbourne), this 16th Century building has been tastefully renovated, though with its low ceilings and oak beams it retains its 'old world' pub charm.Castle Inn Pub, Pevensey Bay Current mine hosts Daina and Paul Martin took over the business in September 2017. Already regular customers, they liked the pub so much that - in the manner of a famous 1970s T.V. commercial - they bought the company!Offering a varied selection of beers, wines, spirits, and soft drinks, along with a menu of delicious homemade food utilising local produce wherever possible, plus weekend entertainment, The Castle Inn is a pub that has something to offer everyone, both local and visitor alike. We look forward to seeing you!

Just returned from this lovely pub ( country pub vibe ). We were given a very warm welcome when we arrived and we were looked after very well throughout our visit. My wife and I had a very tasty starter of whitebait ( for me) and prawn cocktail for my wife. Both were of a good quality and very moreish. We then both had a Sunday Roast, my wife had the beef and I had belly pork. My meat was so succulent and plenty of it .My wife sadly couldn’t eat all of her beef as it was such a generous portion ( but I managed hers as well , JUST). These were served with seasonal vegetables and scrummy roast potatoes . We were too full to try a dessert but we saw others eating theirs and they looked of a similar quality to our meal. All this at a very reasonable cost. We will definitely return as the welcome was as warm as the cosy real fire in the bar. Thank you all at the castle.

My wife and I called in on Tuesday lunchtime hoping for a table. The restaurant was fully booked, but the staff went out of their way to be helpful. They found us a table in a separate room and treated us like honoured guests, bringing us our drinks and taking our orders very quickly. The food was mostly home made and cooked fresh and was delicious. The local ale (Long Man brewery best bitter) was excellent . To cap it all, the prices were very reasonable - especially for a popular tourist resort in September. Overall we were extremely impressed and immediately booked a table for Thursday. Highly recommended.

Sausage, egg, beans and chips was excellent, with large portions. Salad was disappointing as it contained no lettuce (which the menu said it did) and was obviously from a packet, with a tiny bit of tomato, about a teaspoon of grated carrot, a tiny bit of cucumber but masses of chopped giant onion plus chopped pickled onions. I had to leave most of the onion as I don't like the taste and find it indigestible. The coleslaw was home made and fresh, but had a largish piece of unchopped cabbage stem in it. The ham with it was thickly sliced boiled bacon, which was very good, and new potatoes were also served, which were nice, though not hot. I had to request dressing and only a tiny amount was brought. I was pleased, however, that sweet pickle was produced on request. Another plus point was the friendliness of the staff. Can I suggest that onion is left out of the salad in future, that lettuce is included and that the cabbage in the coleslaw is totally chopped up and does not contain the stem?

We have visited several times this year and always received a warm welcome. There is a true community spirit, the drinks are sensibly priced and the food is to die for, especially the Sunday Roast which is gorgeous. I would recommend the Castle Inn to anyone passing through or visiting Pevensey Bay

We were having a few days away and decided to come to this pub primarily because it is dog friendly. We were warmly greeted and offered a table. We were served at our table which was nice more a restaurant feel. We choose the fish and chips and can honestly say it was delicious, the nicest fish I have ever had! All freshly cooked and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. Big thank you to you all.

A really lovely pub in a great spot. The staff are friendly and welcoming and the pub has a nice atmosphere. The food is delicious and freshly cooked for you and the menu is varied with a specials board too. Nice choice of beers and a lovely house red wine that my wife enjoyed.

My fiancé and his parents (who are down on holiday), popped in for lunchtime drinks during the week. We liked the pub and staff so much, that we went for dinner this evening. Everything was absolutely wonderful! The staff made us feel so welcome, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the prices are very reasonable. We are absolutely going to go back and soon, as we live in Eastbourne. I can't recommend it enough and am already looking forward to returning.

Stopped for lunch in Pevensey Bay and found this great pub. Lots of tables booked, which is a good sign. I had homemade fishcakes (10.95) and my wife had steak pie (12.95). My wife was very impressed with the pie and my fishcakes were full of mixed fish and very little potato, which is good. Would definitely recommend

Always eat here when we stay at nearby campsite every Easter and got to say this visit was the best one yet . If there was a prize for landlady of the year this one would get it hands down , upon sitting down the landlady in question sat next to us and greeted us like we were old friends . So friendly and attentive , she went through the menu with us and when my wife asked if she could have her choice with veg and new potatoes instead of chips and salad was told it wouldn’t be a problem . Unfortunately when her meal arrived it was served with the chips and salad instead and when we called the landlady over to tell her she was so apologetic and embarrassed and took it straight back to the kitchen to ( in her words ) to have a few sharp words with the staff . Within no time at all the mistake was put right , we were then both given a free drink of our choice and when my wife ordered a pudding this was free as well . Can’t praise the landlady enough , she was so friendly and welcoming to everyone that came into the pub and it’s a shame there are not more like her . Top draw , keep up the great work .

Just had a lovely lunch here. Went for the steak, ale and mushroom pie with mash and fresh vegetables. Very tasty pie, veggies were cooked just right and the mash was nice and creamy. Gravy was nice and thick too. Had a pint of Pravha to go with the food, it was ice cold and fizzy so all good there. The ladies at the bar were very friendly and welcoming and food service polite too. Finally the choice of music was perfect for me, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Chic, The Emotions, The Supremes, etc. All in all a very nice lunch, thanks :-)

We ate here on several occasions whilst on holiday in the area. The service was friendly and efficient and the food excellent. Plenty of choice on the main menu and 4 or 5 mains specials every evening as well as a couple of desserts. A choice of 4 real ales on tap too. Highly recommended

Wanted a dog friendly pub near Eastbourne. All the right notes. Car park alongside had 2 spaces. Low beam, wood floor atmosphere. Good draft beer (Harvey's). Friendly and efficient staff. Food cooked well from fresh (whitebait, cod in beer batter). Quite a choice of specials (incl pie, lasagne, burger, steak). Pretty full but tables spaced enough for conversation. A really good local pub.

What a lovely meal we just had at The Castle Inn. Staying in Pevensey Bay for a week and this is the best meal we have had. Fish and chips were cooked to perfection and so was the Cajun chicken burgers. We will deffo come back next time we are in the area. Every member of staff was polite and helpful. Well done everyone in what I am sure has been a difficult few years. Thank you for a great meal. From there very happy customers 🙂
