The Jordan and Yau Ma Tei neighbourhood is where you will find some of the more authentic areas of Hong Kong. Not as glamourous or busy as its neighbours Mong Kok to the north or Tsim Sha Tsui to the south, Yau Ma Tei is often mistakenly overlooked by visitors on their trips to Hong Kong. Exploring parts of this area makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time. A large part of the neighbourhood draws from the rich history of Temple Street, stretching from Jordan to Yau Ma Tei, where a mix of dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants), market stalls, fortune tellers and old karaoke bars bring out the history and culture of the area. The neighbourhood is a showcase of diversity – different ethnicities, cultures, and a mix of old and new.

Tin Hau Temple is one of the oldest religious institutions in Hong Kong. It also marks Yau Ma Tei's transformation from a humble fishing village to a bustling commercial area. The annual Tin Hau Festival is a big event. The open area in front of the temple is a popular hangout place among elder residents.
It may be only small but it is quite verdant and shady. Suprisingly it is quite hilly also as you walk in the paths. It's quite near to Austin station and not that far from Kowloon Park so if you plan it right you can walk through both.
"Engineer's Office at the former water pumping station in Ya Mau Tei"
reviewed 10 April 2020 by BradJill T
This was the Engineer's Office of a former water pumping station and is considered a Grade I historical building in Hong Kong. Located along Shanghai Street near the Yau Ma Tei Theatre, it is referred to as the Red Brick Building because of the deep orangish-red colour of the bricks which make up the building exterior.
Constructed in 1895, the...
Have been visiting for over 2 years now. Very great food and incredible delicious.
Since is a small business, there is only one cook and if there was more than 3 tables, you can wait up to 50’mins for your order.
Butter chicken however is the best in HK
Cantonese sweets. Not “desserts” Cantonese have fruit as a palate cleanser after a meal. Sweet items are eaten as sweets.
This type of sweet is one area I can claim to be an expert. Happy to report- perfection. All the acclaim is deserved.
A neat flavor of soup
The soup is well soaked in thin noodles, so the taste is really good. Adding red vinegar to...
A huge variety which covers lots of exotic cuisines, in my opinion, a strange combination and the dishes we ordered were not authentic enough. Good if you want a sampler of different cuisine. Tight seating as well!
Actually we have had several stays already during these three months. If your budget is in this range , I would highly recommend this hotel to you. The room is new and clean with all model facilities. Especially the bathroom part, you definitely will be satisfied with the bathing experience, trust me.
Book Madera 1night as staycation. Hotel Close to Nathan Road and there was many nice restaurants nearby. Room was big compared the hotel in HK and bathtub was a surprise.Free breakfast included. Not buffet breakfast but it’s included fresh made coffee. Thats awesome for a coffeeholic.
Support the hotel brand stand with the diversity and local community.
its room is small but the facilities are clean and comfortable, especially for the bed, sleep well. the staffs are helpful and energetic.
The services are quite good and food are quite delicious, well deserved as a 4 star hotel. The most remarkable point is the client service as they are all really polite and nice. Can have a try for their 800 dollars package.
