A warm evening with a cocktail in your hand and great company is the ideal way to experience Piazza Santo Spirito; the area is busiest at sunset for happy hour. Visitors cannot hide their astonishment sitting on the staircase under the Basilica of Santo Spirito, and they cannot help but stare at the architectural masterpieces like Bianca Cappello House, Fontana dello Sprone and San Frediano in Cestello and Santa Maria delle Carmine churches. Tourists and Florentines alike join up in the area between Santo Spirito and San Frediano, connecting the Tuscan soul to the international spirit permeating the city.
Eat, see, and stay in Santo Spirito / San Frediano
Tucked away in a church in an out of the way part of Florence is the Brancassi Chapel. The walls are covered with some of the most beautiful and revolutionary art of the Western world. Renaissance art really started here when two artists, Massacio and Masolino, painted a series of frescos on the life of St. Peter. For the first...
Our hostel was close to this piazza so we went there a few times. It was clean, not so crowded as other squares in Florence and the whole vibe was lovely. I enjoyed the market on Sunday, there were stands of food, flowers, clothes, shoes and jewelry too.
At one time, the interior of Santa Maria del Carmine probably matched the beauty of its Brancacci Chapel (accessed by a separate, ticketed entrance). However, the church as a whole seems to be suffering from decades (maybe centuries) of inadequate maintenance. I was there for mass one recent Saturday evening and was rather saddened by the general state of the...

We came in a rush because we were late but that is ok we are in Italy it is almost rude to be on time.😁
Anyway because it was Corona we could book on the day. I would suggest that you do it before.
For starter I had this creamy mozzarella with a little bit of tomato. It tasted wonderful....
We had coffee and pastry twice in this pasticceria. Staff is friendly and the quality of the pastry is very good. It is a bit outside the center of town but it is a pleasant walk with a beaufiful church on the way.
Amazing restaurant! The team at B.O.r.G.O. is clearly passionate about what they do and it shows on the plate. The food was great from start to finish (don't miss the rum baba!), and we received a really warm welcome. One of our highlights in Florence!
Magnificent Palazzo that throws you back in time, for a true Italian Dolce Vita experience (I am Italian). Room with frescos, lots of space, a welcoming warm staff and the most breathtaking view of the city from their terrasse. I would definitely come back here for my next visit to Firenze!
Set in the centre of Florence ( you would never know) a converted convent. Very quiet & peaceful. Lovely rooms altho ours was a bit small esp the bathroom ...one at a time & a squeeze to get into shower, but hey. ..you don't go to Florence to stay in the room!
Toiletries & hairdryer in room. Water provided but...
My husband and I stayed in the Fresco Suite during our honeymoon. The room was beautiful and so unique. The bed was comfortable, and there is plenty of space in the room, with a couch and a couple of chairs. The bathroom is large by Italian standards, but the shower is a typical tiny Italian shower. There is a small...
