Hotels near Glenwood Vineyards

GlenWood is a very special place. Located in the little-known valley of Robertsvlei, a few kilometers from Franschhoek, close to Cape Town, the farm is surrounded by aspects of outstanding natural beauty. Using only the best materials and sustainable viticulturist practices, we have developed the farm over the past thirty years, winning numerous awards for our vineyards and our hand-crafted wines. Our credo, "simple, natural, quality", pervades our thinking across all parts of the business; simple, be it architecture, label design or the way we approach decisions; natural, be it the farming practices we use, the wine making process itself, or the replanting of indigenous fynbos throughout the farm; quality, be it of the grapes we produce, the wines we vinify, the gourmet sushi we offer or the human relationships we foster on and off the farm.

Fabulous winery off the beaten track
Fabulous few hours spent sampling the wine. Special mention to Theswill who did a fabulous job...very knowledgeable. Good luck with your next stage of exams! It's a bit off the beaten track and not as touristy as other Winery's. The only comment I would suggest is to offer something other than sushi..maybe meat/ cheese platters as sushi is a bit niche
Dear stephaniecS9393QB, Thank you so much for sharing your experience from your visit to GlenWood. We are delighted that you enjoyed the wine tasting and that Theswill made your visit special with his knowledge. We will be sure to pass along your kind words and best wishes to him. We appreciate your feedback regarding possible food options which we will definitely consider. We do hope to welcome you back soon. Kind Regards,

Superb vineyard-Scottish influence apparent. You must visit!
Excellent wine tasting. Having travelled from Edinburgh we feel at home here in Glenwood. A reminder of our Scottish heritage. Theswill was our server, and his knowledge about the wines, and his information on the history of Glenwood was first class. He was a real gem amongst great staff. This vineyard is the best in Franschoek. Having visited in 2010, 2016, 2020 and again in 2024-we can’t commend it highly enough. You must visit.
Dear Xanadu-Scotland, Thank you for the outstanding review of your most recent visit to Glenwood, following your three visits over the last thirteen years! We appreciate your sense that there is something here which reminds you of Scotland, possible due to the owner's family being directly descended from there with him being only one generation removed. Your compliments about Theswill and the rest of our staff are truly appreciated. Finally, your summary comment about us being "the best vineyard in Franschhoek" is most flattering - thank you. We look forward to welcoming you back for more exceptional wine experiences in the future. Safe travels and Kind Regards,

    Peaceful, informative and pleasant.
Beautiful setting. Our wine tasting was overseen by a young gentleman named Theswill. Great service and very knowledgeable. Had a good lunch seated on the lawn overlooking the vineyard. Was a very pleasant way to spend the afternoon. Definitely worth a visit.
Dear 234haraldr Thank you for visiting GlenWood and for your kind words! We are delighted to hear you enjoyed our beautiful setting and exceptional service. We look forward to welcoming you back for another delightful dining experience overlooking the vineyard. Kind Regards,

    Glorious Glenwood
There are three special things that make a trip to Glenwood a treat when visiting the Winelands. First, the setting is one of the most beautiful in the area, a magnificent mountain background with a lake in the foreground. Seemingly remote, yet so close to Franschoek. Secondly, the welcome. Our tasting was lead by Theswill who was friendly, amusing and knowledgeable. Lastly of course, the wines. Chardonnay is the speciality here and at three levels. We left with several but in the ensuing weeks the cheapest, the unoaked chardonnay, became our favourite for everyday drinking. there are also fine reds. Definitely worthy of a visit.
Dear evisionD, Many thanks for your superb review of "Glorious GlenWood". Your appreciation of our magnificent surroundings, the welcome you received and our three Chardonnays are all close to the top of our list for guests to enjoy so we were delighted that they worked for you. We do hope that you will be able to pay us another visit in the near future. Kind regards.

    Wonderful Day
Glenwood Vineyards is a magical place. Surrounded by mountains, it is a perfect spot to relax, taste delicious wine and learn about winemaking. Chris, our guide, made the experience memorable. He toured us around the winery and we had the treat of going up to the top of a hill on a vehicle and getting sensational photos. The food was absolutely delicious. I have never tasted more delicious sushi. The staff is kind, knowledgeable, setting gorgeous. If you are anywhere near or far make sure you stop in. Wines are excellent as well and if you can grab a bottle bring home. Loved Glenwood and Chris!
Dear U7886BVlisar, Many thanks for your visit to GlenWood and for your great review. I am sorry that I was not there to meet you but hopefully next time. You are quite right about Chris and the rest of our staff, the wines, the sushi and our beautiful location - we are most blessed. Please enjoy the rest of your stay in South Africa and we do look forward to seeing you back. Kind regards,

Come for the wine stay for the Sushi!
We visited Glenwood to try their Chardonnay. Its slightly off the main road but its a real gem. When we arrived we found that the winery serves sushi. It turned out to be absolutely amazing sushi which would be worthy of a top end restaurant. Service was brilliant and the staff were very knowledgeable.
Dear 904leem, Many thanks for your visit to GlenWood and for your excellent review of our Chardonnay and, even more, of the "surprise" sushi. We really enjoy our situation being slightly off the main road since we attract guests who love our wines, sushi, outstanding natural beauty, personal service and knowledgeable staff rather than the main road destinations who tend to attract the masses. We do hope that you will find time to visit us again. Kind regards

    A hidden gem
A hidden gem outside Franschhoek, a new favourite for sure. I’m not a sushi fan usually but what a surprise, absolutely brilliant. We also enjoyed the Sauvignon bland and the lovely view of the mountains. We will be back!!
Dear davidnF8252II, Many thanks for your visit to GlenWood and for your excellent review. We were delighted that you so enjoyed our sushi, wines and our phenomenal views yet so close to town. We look forward to your promise of a return visit. Kind regards.

    Glenwood Franschoek Chardonnay tasting
Wow! What an awesome experience at the Home of Chardonnay here in the picturesque Franschoek Valley. Best tasting ever with beautiful wines. Host Andrico went out of his way to make us feel welcome with his excellent knowledge of the wines and history of this beautiful establishment.
Dear franz_allers, Many thanks for visiting GlenWood yesterday to taste our wines and for your outstanding review. Yes, we are extremely lucky indeed to live in such beautiful surroundings. Andrico appreciate your comments very much; I will pass them on today. Kind regards

Original winetasting that you really can't miss!!
What a super nice wine experience. First I did the tour of the estate with an off-road vehicle and then on top of an idyllic spot the winetasting. All provided by the enthusiastic manager Chris. Beautiful stories and lots of humor 😁 Highly recommended!!!

    Simply CANNOT miss!!
Just another Sunday, turned into the most awesome day with friends and family. We were spoilt by the team at Glenwood to be taken on their Fynbos tour overlooking their valley, and even more so when we had a wine tasting at the top. If you are a wine lover, then I highly recommend stopping in and exploring this gorgeous place. From eating gourmet sushi to seeing blushing brides, there is so much to enjoy. I can't thank DP, Foster, and Chris (for now) for the memorable moments they gave my family. A must do when exploring the area!
Dear jesseA6602XM, What a great review of your visit to GlenWood! I am very proud of the team who looked after you and your family and will convey your thanks to each of them. We are very fortunate to live in such a beautiful environment and have done our best to complement it with the best wines, sushi and service we can offer. Kind regards.

This historic estate was originally part of the great La Provence farm given to French Huguenot farmers in 1694. Over the years the property was divided and the portion which is now Rickety Bridge was granted to Paulina De Villiers, one of the first female land owners in South Africa, in 1797. In the late 1980's the estate became known as Rickety Bridge due to the old railway sleeper bridge which crossed the Franschhoek River and provided the entry point to the estate. The rickety bridge was replaced in 1996 and the new bridge provides a safe crossing over the river. Today, Rickety Bridge is a stately Franschhoek winery which has gone from strength to strength in recent years and the memory and pioneering spirit of Paulina De Villiers is celebrated by the flagship range of wines, Paulina's Reserve. These distinctive wines, as well as the renowned Rickety Bridge classic range and the Foundation Stone Range, have received many accolades and high praise in recent years.
