We had a quick stop in George for the night and upon some research on what to do, found out about the transport museum. It is free to enter. If you are a train enthusiast you will enjoy this museum with lots to see. We called in an hour before closing time, ideally one and half hours would have been better to fully appreciate what the museum had to offer.

Trains, wagons, cars, buses, coaches, carts and model cars. Everything that moved on wheels until the 1950s can be found in this beautiful transport museum. Locomotives and classic cars are the strong points but also the interior of the locomotives take you back in time in a magical atmosphere that testifies to what mobility was like in South Africa almost 100 years ago.

We decided not to have a party for my son's sixth birthday, but to rather have an outing with all the family on the Power Van. What an awesome experience! Everyone loved it. The only criticism I would mention is that the picnic time on the mountain is way too short. A normal person could hardly manage to eat a sandwich in the given time, let alone have a picnic snack. I would definitely recommend this outing to anyone who is interested in railway transport or historical events.

Even as a non-railway freak, everyone gets their money's worth there. I found the history of the railway, the car show and the somewhat “morbid” ambience impressive and spent two great hours there. And the scoop.... It is free of charge (but please donate something)

Loved this, drenched in history I didn’t even know about! It’s a bit rundown but considering they are most likely under funded its was well Worth the visit and they have really tried to keep it looking good. Thank you to the staff and I really recommend it, tie it in with the train trip up the mountain and it’s so so worth it. Makes for an amazing day!

What a gem of a museum. Such a huge collection of Vintage cars , train engines and other fascinating vehicles. There is no fee to visit. All the vehicles are maintained to top notch condition. Truly displays the South African transport heritage . A must visit place and leave some great remarks to encourage them to keep the museum running. Sadly they did not have a souvenir shop. Perhaps something they can do for revenue generation and let visitors to take home a memorabilia.
