The most powerful museum I have ever visited
Simply put, this was the most powerful museum I have ever experience, and I am 83 and have seen a hell of a lot of excellent museums. The building itself is unique and worth the visit itself with regard to museum architecture. But the exhibits are so very powerful, especially after we spent several hours in Soweto. There were plenty of docents to help find our way and see new things. We were there for 3 hours and easily could have spent much more time. I wish that they could find a way to have the essence of the museum travel around the world.

    So much information
We have loved the museum, even though we were with 2 young children. So much history, so much interesting information. Display and layout has been done very well, nice flow. Definately worth a visit. For a young family, it took us over 2 hours with a short food break. Loadshedding didn't allow to view all short movies available, but still a great experience

    Must See
We had almost three hours here and I could have easily spent another 1-2 hours. It’s very well designed to keep you engaged with film, objects, audio and text. As our first stop in the country, the museum set us up well for other historical stops such as Constitution Hill and also Robben Island by Cape Town.

The building itself is beautiful, beautiful modern architecture. Nice use of materials. The content is overwhelming due to the multitude of photos, images and texts. You do feel the impact of apartheid and the battle that has been fought.

    could spend the entire day......
I went to the museum as part of a tour, so I was only able to spend a couple of hours at the museum. One could spend the the day at the museum. When getting your entry ticket, they give you a "white" or "Non-white" slip so you enter the museum in the appropriate line to enhance the overall experience.

    History Lesson
This provided great insight on Apartheid. I would highly recommend anyone who wants to know about history check out this spot. Unfortunately, we only could stay in the museum for a little over an hour as we wanted to tour Soweto as well. I would say it could take about 3 hours to thoroughly go through the museum. I was able to read mostly everything, but I did feel a little rushed (my own doing). I would have spent more time listening to some of the videos and such. The museum can be a little confusing to navigate through (as far as which part is what), but someone easily pointed us in the right direction. All the information was thorough and engaging!! Highly recommend!

    A must-see museum in Joburg
This is one of the best museums we have ever visited. We spent more than 4 and a half hours going through the permanent and temporary exhibitions (even though we tried to skip some parts...). It was so informative and moving at the same time. I feel that with all conflicts going around right now, each human being must visit this museum at least once in their life. We loved the "Born free" exhibition the most as it shows the country today through the generations of those born after 1994.

Great museum with an amazing amount of information
The museum is a great place to get an understanding of the history of apartheid and the impact it has had on South African society. It is a complex history and the museum does a great job at helping people understand and appreciate it. I spent 4 hours there, could have spent more. You need at least 2 hours to get a brief overview but definitely need more time to really appreciate it. Children may find it a bit overwhelming. The Truth Cafe is also good place for a coffee. You get a discount if you arrive on the Hop on Hop off bus.

A Very Thorough Reflection of History
The amount of exhibits that can be viewed here is frankly overwhelming. Our tour guide told us that it could take us about 1.5 hours to get through the entire museum, but after about 45 minutes we had seen plenty and were on information overload. Anyhow, this is a must see place to go while in Johannesburg, and does a great job telling the history of Apartheid.

    Excellent
Simply excellent. Very well laid out with extensive exhibits and well written and designed information boards. The side exhibition of Nelson Mandela and how it ended was incredibly touching. This is a must do when in the city
