- lapsyboyCleethorpes, United Kingdom49 contributionsBest museum in GlasgowQuite unbelievable how this boat has been restored and the access you are given around the vessel is awesome. The fact that it is free is staggering, there is some great video in the hold and the Captain’s quarters are not to be missed. Combine this with a cocktail at the Anchor Line bar in the city centre for the historic shipping experience of luxury cruises.Sounds like you had a great day out, thanks for your review!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023
- Andy CKingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom48 contributionsBrilliant time here.Fantastic museum. One of the best I have been to. Fantastic array of transport from trains, cars, motorcycles, cycles, trams etc. the museum also has a street where there are old style Glasgow shop. I spent about 3 hours at this museum and probably could have spent more. I would definitely recommend this museum as a must place to visit when in Glasgow. The museum is actually free though you can donate. There is a card scan where you can donate £5. The £5 is definitely worth the money. Thanks very much for your review, and for your kind donation!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 12 October 2023
- Thomas GAmsterdam, The Netherlands1,877 contributionsSurprisingly goodThe Riverside museum is very cool, which I did not expect. There were many cars, trams and more. You can even get in several trams and subways. The highlight for me was the street, which portrayed a street in the 1920s, where you can enter several shops and a bar with information. The outside of the museum is also very impressive.Great to hear you were pleasantly surprised, thanks for the review!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited August 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- Hans MeyerTallahassee, Florida305 contributionsWhat absolute fun! When you're in Glascow, be sure to visit the Riverside Museum of Transport and Travel. From a wall of cars (yes, cars!) to a wall of bicycles (and even a wall of motorcycles), you know you're in for a fun time here.Delighted to hear you enjoyed your day, thanks for the review!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 October 2023
- Sandi RInverness, United Kingdom6 contributionsFREE activity to do when in GlasgowGreat visit! Very informative and plenty things in interact with! Very clean throughout. Best thing is it's FREE! There is a wee cafe but I noticed there were several pick-nick areas with benches and families eating food they had brought with them. This is nice to see as it can be expensive eating out all the time. Gift shop was also well stocked. There were buses, but we got the train from Glasgow Central to Patrick and was only a 5-10 min walk to the museum, signposted as you leave the train station. Thanks so much for coming along, we're delighted to hear you enjoyed your day!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 October 2023
- vickykksaKuala Lumpur, Malaysia285 contributionsCars, planes, bikes, trains and The Tall Ship!Visited the Riverside Museum, a fascinating place that you get to go into for FREE! It was really interesting, seeing all these different modes of travel and the history behind them. I didn't see so much of the museum itself because I found myself at the door to the Tall Ship and ended up in there for so long, I had to miss the rest of the museum! The Tall Ship was another fascinating exhibit. The story of its life, and how it was brought to this site, to be refurbished and opened to visitors, is a testament to the foresight of the people concerned. It was amazing to walk all over the ship including the vast hold, There are videos playing in the hold, telling stories of the history of the ship and its occupants. The log of one of the young boys who signed on as apprentice was also on display, giving a glimpse into his life. The cramped crew quarters contrasted greatly with the luxurious one of the captain, complete with bathtub and fine china! Also have to say, the staff were really friendly. As I left, I was trying to figure out how to get to my next destination, and the security guard at the entrance took the trouble to come out with me and point me in the right direction. Altogether a very well spent morning, now I need to make another trip one day to really explore the museum proper! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a nice review, please come back and visit us again soon!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 23 October 2023

- BonnieRed850Huntingdon, United Kingdom576 contributionsBrought back some memoriesIt was a wet day in Glasgow so a visit to the Riverside Museum seemed a good idea, and we were not wrong. For day visitors to the city like us, the museum is easily accessed via the Metro and a ten minute walk from Patrick station. Entry is free and there is a great variety of things to see. From old cars from the 60’s to children’s toys, it is all here. I lost count of the number of times I said, “Oh, I remember those.” It was also nice to see and read about the former shipyards that occupied the site. We didn’t get to board the ship in the dock as it was raining so hard, but I wish we had. All in all, we had a good time which cost us nothing, so what’s not to like! Thanks very much for your lovely review! We're glad you enjoyed your day reminiscing.Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 November 2023
- Brad DPlymouth, United Kingdom68 contributionsTop MuseumGreat experience from start to finish. It was like a tardis as we walked in. We weren't expecting there to be much to see , but we were so wrong after every corner there more and more. We both thoroughly enjoyed it. There were the usual school groups but they weren't in our way at all and were all well-behaved, the coffee shop on the top floor was lovely with a nice view, all staff were welcoming and answered any questions we had. We will definitely be back. Thanks so much for your lovely review!Written 14 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 November 2023
- WisdenPompey102 contributionsMore Than You Might ExpectWent there expecting the visit to be a couple of hours. Spent a lot more time going round all the exhibits. Whilst transport is the main theme there were streets and shops to explore. Cafe excellent. Whilst it is not that close to the centre of Glasgow there are, I believe, bus links. We took a train to Partick, also on the subway line, and had about a 10 minute walk. Signposting not great though. Well worth a visit but make sure you give yourself enough time. Thanks so much for your nice review!Written 22 December 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 November 2023
