- Al B13 contributionsUnfortunate experienceAnimals seemed to have decent enclosures to meet their needs, certainly way above the standard of zoos. Only one fault for the day. The aggressive, rude server in the venison burger van. He needs to go. Absolutely outrageously belligerent for no reason. Spoiled our day and won't be back.Hello I6126NNalb, thank you for taking the time to leave a review and sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear you had this experience. Tomintoul Venison is staffed by an external business we have invited on site and not our teams. We expect a high level of customer service from all of our catering providers and we will be sure to pass on your feedback to their staff. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit aside from this experience, all of our enclosures are designed by expert teams and suited to the unique requirements of each species. Every visit helps our wildlife conservation charity to feed and care for our animals and deliver vital conservation work in Scotland and around the world. - Barbara H4 contributionsWell worth visitingFabulous visit, even in atrocious weather! Out eight year old granddaughter loved all the animals, but particularly the polar bears, and the talk given by a very knowledgeable ranger during the feeding of mother and son, victoria and Brodie. Lovely café, with a good selection of snacks, and drinks. Will definitely revisit in the summer!Hi barbarahC1259CZ, thank you for taking the time to leave a positive review. It's wonderful to hear you enjoyed seeing all of our animals and your granddaughter loved the polar bears! We're pleased you had the opportunity to learn more about them as well. - Lizzie R20 contributionsA high welfare set-upThis is a park that restores in faith in the traditional image of a zoo. The enclosures are comfortable for the animals and we did not see any evidence of stereotypical pacing or other behaviours suggestive of distress. The drive round area was fun and the horses were cheeky. We enjoyed chatting about wildcats and the rain did not spoil things. The gift shop was a mix of local and commercial. The talks were informative. We loved it and only wished the opening hours were longer 😅Hello! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a lovely five star review, we're so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit. We'd recommend coming back to visit us in the summer months if you can - we're open from 10am until 6pm! - KristenHuntly, United Kingdom1 contributionHappy animals and friendly staffCame here with my husband in early Jan 2024 and had a great time. Animal enclosures are large with lots of grass and hills for them to move around in. The staff do animal talks/feedings at various times of the day (signposted in the gift shop) and I highly recommend attending these if you can as they're very informative and interesting. Venison burger stand outside was great. Would also recommend checking out the gift shop as it has a lot of unique animal-related crafts and is reasonably priced. I got a lovely wildcat mug and tote bag :)Hello Kristen-Scotland, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a positive review. We're delighted you enjoyed your visit seeing our amazing animals and were able to learn more about them from our friendly staff. It's also great to hear you had the chance to make the most of your visit with a tasty venison burger and some mementos from our gift shop. Every ticket and purchase made in our food outlets or gift shop helps our charity to feed and care for our animals and deliver vital conservation at home in Scotland and across the world. - 20-Abs-13London, United Kingdom71 contributionsGood visitVisited for the first time today. Enjoyed our visit. Animals seem to be well looked after with large enclosures. The drive through safari area was closed due to icy weather unfortunately, but price to enter was not reduced to reflect this, thankfully this did not put us off as we were aware of the good work in conservation they do as well as the fact that the zoo animals will still need feeding regardless of the weather! There is also quite a bit of building work going on at present, I think it's going to be a new visitors centre which looked good. The gift shop was really quite expensive however, some fridge magnets cost £8 for example, which is just beyond a joke! Would return for another visit.Hello, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we're delighted to hear you enjoyed your visit. During winter, the drive through reserve can often close at short notice due to poor weather conditions. This is to protect our animals, visitors and staff. We're sorry for any disappointment this caused and are glad to hear you still enjoyed your visit. It is worth noting that depending on where they're exploring in the reserve, most of the animals (vicuna, Przewalski's wild horses, bison and deer) can all be spotted from the main visitor areas of the park too, particularly from the path up to our female polar bear enclosure and on the path down from our snow leopards past the herd of markhor. You are right in saying there is a fair bit of construction work taking place on site at the moment, but we promise the disturbance will be worth it. We are currently in the process of building Scotland's Wildlife Discovery Centre (due to open later this year!). This project will feature a hill-top conservation hub, a learning hub, a discovery hub, and the refurbishment of our visitor centre and cafes. You can find out more on our website. As a wildlife conservation charity, every visit and purchase made in our gift shop and cafe helps feed and care for all our amazing animals and supports our vital conservation projects at home in Scotland and around the world. Thank you so much for your support, we hope to see you again soon 💙Written 30 January 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 January 2024
- Joy IScotland, United Kingdom440 contributionsGreat day outI visited with my husband for my birthday treat. I am an RZSS member and have been here before but it was many years ago. There is a lot of construction work going on but it doesn’t distract from the park. The only problem is that most of the toilets are closed. It too bad in January but could be trouble in busier months. We started by going round the drive through area but didn’t see much. We then attended three keeper talks and went round the pedestrian area. A nice lunch in the cafe and then another drive around when, thankfully, we saw a lot more. It’s nice that you can take the drive round as often as you like. The keeper’s talks were very interesting. They obviously love the animals and know their stuff. So glad I came again. Will make sure I come again when the new buildings are finishedHello j10joy, thank you for taking the time to share your positive feedback. It’s wonderful to hear you saw lots of our animals and had the opportunity to learn more about them during the talks from our friendly staff. We always recommend going back to different animals at different times of day to have the best chance to see as many as possible and it’s great you enjoyed a second drive through to spot more of our animals. We’re also pleased to hear you enjoyed the lovely Antlers café. As you say there is some construction taking place and we are glad to hear it did not disrupt your visit too much. We promise it will be worth it when we open Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre later this year!
