Ever seen a movie or TV show that takes place in Austria? Then you’ve probably seen Ellmau. Charming villages, idyllic scenery and an 18th-century parish church make Ellmau a popular filming location for directors who want a setting that’s quintessentially Austrian. For regular folks, Ellmau’s draw is its proximity to the Wilder Kaiser mountains, where the hiking trails and ski slopes are equally spectacular.

Running along Germany’s southern border with Austria, the Bavarian Alps are one of the country’s most beautiful areas. Skiing is, naturally, one of the favorite pastimes. Though its connection to the actual Capulets is tenuous at best, the so-called Juliet's House draws half a million tourists per year, many of them keen on reenacting the balcony scene. Don't miss the Roman amphitheatre and the Palazzo Barberi.

The fjords and mountain ranges of Tromso are simply magical. Here, the northern lights sparkle across the same navy blue sky that's illuminated by the midnight sun. You'll be spellbound by Tromso's enchanting fishing villages, fragrant botanical gardens and crystalline waterfalls. Music is a major part of the Tromso culture, particularly techno and electronic music, which adds some thumping thunder to the city once a year during the annual Insomnia Festival.
