One of the most heart-pumping stretches of the Tour de France is always the 21 hairpin curves at L'Alpe d'Huez. Doesn’t sound so hard? They bike up the mountain. Every summer, hundreds of amateur cyclists flock to this resort in the French Alps and make the same climb. It’s more famous as a warm-weather destination, but L'Alpe d'Huez is also one of Europe’s top ski destinations. The nearby slopes appeal to beginners, but they get more challenging a bit farther away. More experienced skiers and snowboarders can literally travel for miles on some of the most challenging runs. And there are plenty of off-piste areas, too.

Elegantly perched on the border between France and Switzerland, Evian’s internationally renowned healing waters lure health-conscious visitors from around the world. It is France’s most celebrated spa resort, famed for its hydrotherapy treatments that benefit digestive and metabolic conditions.

Perfectly positioned on a lake with the Alps at its back, lucky Lugano has a little bit of everything. Ride a cable car up Monte San Salvatore or Monte Bre for sunny panoramas of lake, rivers, mountains and red-roofed buildings. Explore the town's churches, cathedrals and the expressive and colorful Piazza della Riforma. Sample some slow-cooked Ticinese cuisine, explore the lake on a boat or spend the day at the lido with its Olympic-sized pool.

We hear the question, "What’s the next Prague?" a lot. But while we’re all for discovering great new destinations, we hardly think Prague is over. Sure, everyone’s heard of it, but it’s still a grand city with extraordinary historic and cultural sights, and it’s definitely worth a visit. One of the most historic cities in America, Philadelphia is an ideal place to spend a weekend - preferably a long one. Be sure to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Constitution and Declaration of Independence were signed. Both are part of Independence National Historic Park. Philadelphia also boasts some outstanding art museums, including the Rodin Museum. The Franklin Institute Science Museum is one of many area attractions honoring the life and work of Benjamin Franklin, the city's most famous ambassador.
