I stayed here for 2 nights and was very well taken care of! It’s a 2 minute drive from the airport. Murray, the guesthouse manager met me at the airport as well he arranged a whale shark snorkeling trip for my family and I the next day. La Cabana is about a 5-7 minute walk to the beach and about a 5 minute walk to the centre of the town. I arranged my departure flight from Maamigili to Male through the hotel and when the flight got changed last minute, Murray was on top of things to notify me and get me to the airport on time. I really enjoyed my stay here. This is a clean, comfortable, affordable, “at home feel” kind of stay!

All communication with La Cabana by email before our trip was very nice. All questions were answered quick and clear and friendly. La Cabana also organised our flight from Male to Maamigili. Although we arrived late at Male and missed our planned flight, this was no problem at all, we could just go on the next flight to Maamigili. The manager of La Cabana was already waiting for us at the airport and within 2 minutes we arrived at the hotel and enjoyed a cool drink. We booked the superior room and this was perfect! Very clean, lots of storage space, good bed and bathroom, small fridge/minibar. A very nice touch is that bottled water, instant coffee, tea and hot water kettle are provided in the room. Room cleaning was perfect. There is a balcony at the room, but this is not big enough to sit on. Large windows provide lots of light in the room and a nice view over some plots of land towards the airport. Wifi reception in our room at the top floor was very poor, but downstairs this was okay, although your session expired soon, so you had to renew your log in all times. The manager even took the time to walk us around the island, to show us around. And he gave us a mobile phone with local simcard, so we could always reach him. Very good service. La Cabana has a nice and well maintained garden for enjoying meals, which are all provided by a local restaurant. We once had dinner at the restaurant itself, but liked the garden of La Cabana more, so had all other meals "at home". Breakfast offers 3 differtent options (2 local fish dishes which are very nice and continental). As I am vegetarian, the manager suggested to offer me some cornflakes in stead of sausage, which I appreciated very much. Lunch and dinner provided by the local restaurant were served in a very nice way at La Cabana, with free water. Meals were all very tasty, very hygienic and very cheap. We also visited 2 other local islands, but here on Maamigili the restaurant prices were lowest and meal selection biggest. All meals could be put on the final bill and paid to La Cabana, which was very convenient. On our departure we were brought to the public ferry and waved goodbye. All in all we very much felt at home at La Cabana and we loved the personal atmosphere. All effort was made to respond to our requests and the manager was very interested in our well being. Regarding Maamigili, be aware that this is a local island and not a resort. We enjoyed very much to experience local life here. We found all people on Maamigili very friendly and happy to talk to you. We were even invited to sit with a family and try home made snacks. Sadly there is no waste system on Maamigili yet, so the island is quite dirty. Not with rotten and smelling waste, but you will find plastic all around the island. Hopefully this will soon be improved. The bikini beach is clean, but there is no nearby coral reef for snorkelling, you will need to swim out farther. On bikini beach are some sunbeds and umbrellas, but do not expect top notch facilities. As we were on day trips for diving and snorkelling daily (with ShaMar, which was perfect), we did not care. If you like picture perfect clean beaches and facilities, you can easily book day-trips to nearby resort islands and spend your days there and returning to Maamigili in the evening.

I'm a solo female traveler who randomly decided to visit the Maldives when I discovered I could swim with Whale Sharks in Maamigili. And I'm so glad I decided to stay at La Cabana Maldives. It was hands down one of THE best lodging experiences I've had yet! The staff was so nice, it felt like I was just at home hanging out with friends. Not only were they nice to hang out with, but they also arranged all my activities for me. I got to spend an afternoon snorkeling at a private Island, visited Sun Island Resort for a day (which I regretted and couldn't wait to leave), played with some stingrays and turtles, and best of all almost peed my pants while swimming above a massive whale shark. I had no expectations for my time at La Cabana Maldives, and was pleasantly surprised... I'm definitely looking forward to going back there! Oh, and if you visit and decide to have breakfast at the house, I highly recommend the Mas Huni. It was so delicious, I'm pretty sure i had it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on certain days :) .

Spotlessly clean boutique hotel, by far the nicest accommodation on Maamagili. The service was incredible, each staff member earned degrees in hospitality from a school in the capital of Malé and it showed in the details of their service (e.g. hospital corners tucked neatly when they make up the beds each morning, proper silverware placement when meals are delivered in room service, etc.). The meals were great too, they figured out to partner with the best restaurant on island so each dish was exquisitely prepared and seasoned perfectly with local specialities. The hotel is just a few minutes walk to a westerners designated only beach. This picturesque beach has a consistent northerly breeze that makes this location ideal for kitesurfing over crystal clear Maldivian baby blue waters. It's basically an undiscovered kiteboarding gem. Scuba diving and snorkeling with the year round resident whale sharks topped my favorite things to do. Two of the staff, Murray and CJ, were incredibly friendly and always looking out for me, making phone calls and making suggestions for the best activities for the conditions of the day. I enjoyed a full week staying at La Cabana and I don't think that was enough, I'll certainly miss the people who run the place and the incredible water sport activities this hidden island paradise has to offer. I'm usually a critical sell though I'd highly recommend La Cabana to anyone seeking a low cost alternative to the pricey resorts without sacrificing accommodation quality or personal service.
