Such a fantastic "Home from home" and perfect for 2 couples. Decadent bedding, gorgeous decor and everything you need. Wonderful patio for warm evenings to enjoy the sunset view over the pond. Conveniently situated to sister farm Cloof Wines, we had the most fantastic tasting afternoon. Delighted to receive a bottle of Cloof wine in our room on our return! Also did a "nature drive" and were thrilled with the view from the top! Splendid stay. Thank you!

This is thé most beautiful setting, perfect self catering cottages. From the moment you stop, your eyes feast on the breathtaking view and your soul breathes in the quiet, serene beauty all around. Total luxurious relaxation - make sure you ask your superb hostess, Alexa, about a game drive to complete a perfect breakaway on a working wine, cattle and game farm. Loved every moment spent there!

This was our second visit to the Burgherspost Estate, and took place four years after we first stayed there. On this occasion we were a party of four adults - including our daughter and son-in-law - and we rented both of the two self-catering guest cottages for a five-day stay.

The estate, covering about 1,500ha, is located about 15kms from Darling and 6km south of Darling Cellars off of the R315 Malmesbury Rd. The two air-conditioned cottages are well equipped, comfortably furnished and enjoy stunning views from the adjoining verandas across lakes and vineyards to grazing herds of cattle and wild game. Alexa and Peter Duckitt are great hosts and went out of their way to ensure that we had everything that we needed - including the company and services of the family Boerboel guard-dog Bruno! The kitchen facilities in the self-catering cottages are very good although during our time there the weather was so warm that we also made good use of the braai. Although Burgherspost is very much a working farm, the guest cottages are perfectly located away from most of the main agricultural activities in a beautiful location where it is all too easy to lose half a day sat quietly in the shade of the terrace with a pair of binoculars just watching the natural world drifting slowly by.

Shopping facilities in Darling (about a 25 minute drive away) were more than adequate with a large Spar supermarket, a good range of small independent stores and restaurants and a first class brewery ! Slightly further afield are superb beaches at Yzerfontein and Langebaan - both of which we visited during the course of our stay, the latter primarily for it's excellent kite surfing opportunities.

Burgherspost is under the same ownership and management as the adjoining Cloof Wine Estate and wine tastings and lunches were available from Cloof Cellars - a short 1km drive from the cottages. Both estates are run under the CapeNature biodiversity and wine initiative and enormous effort is being put into conserving and restoring large areas of natural fynbos and renosterveld vegetation. Resident Conservation Officer Jacques Smit offers guests the opportunity to join him on very informative hikes and game drives - interspersed with photo opportunities that ranged from picture postcard views of the distant Table Mountain to close up encouters with the native flora and fauna.

Overall, we were not disappointed in our decision to return to Burgherspost for a second visit - just over an hour's drive from Cape Town it is a perfect place to relax and unwind and a good base from which to explore Swartland and the West Coast.

This is simply the best place to stay if you are in or about the town of Darling. Two adjoining cottages well laid out and extremely comfortable...everything you need is here and the complimentary bottle of wine and chocolate makes you feel welcomed....the views from this elevated position are stunning with three descending dams laid out below you...friendly dogs, an elusive cat called BossCat, some horses in the field surrounded by loads of guinea fowl, a resident owl and birds galore add to the very special ambience of the place. Given the proximity of the cottages to each other it would be best to rent both with family or friends....highly recommended.
