We had no booking, just showed up at their doorstep and we were handled like we were family. The room we had was spacious, neat and had an awesome view of the sea. The breakfast we were served was delicious and more than enough to cater for any taste. I would go back there any time I can and recommend this guest house to any person. They helped us to get around, as we didn't know the area at all. Great experience, would do it all over again. Thank you so much all staff of Carnoustie Guest House, we appreciate you!

Yvonne was most friendly, helpful and accommodating without "smothering" as sometimes happen with guest houses. The location was good and the facility had all the amenities we could hope for. The room was large and well-equipped. Everything was super-clean and neat. The only downside was hot water. We had the misfortune of waking up later than another guest who loved very, very long showers/bath, and used up all the hot water, causing us to have cold showers, and being middle of the winter it was not fun. Our top-tip would be to get up a bit earlier and enjoy a hot shower.

We had an amazing stay 😁...Siphokazi's hospitality is amazing...she made us feel at home away from home. The place was very neat, the view amazing..close to the beach.I would go there again and again.

If you want to experience South Africa at its worst, go here.
The place is dilapidated, however the room was clean.
The owner Denzel Wescott, came after midnight to let in two drunk, loud couples who shouted and slammed doors until way after 1am. Right next to our bedroom, (which had very beautiful views over the ocean.)
Apparently there is electric fencing, but the next morning our vehicle was broken into. Everything inside stolen. Only our vehicle, because it has an out of province license number. Because we have never been there before, we took clothing for any weather and lost it all. All KWay gear. The owner assured us his insurance would cover our loss, since we do not have any. He lied. Then produced a notice he created on his pc. Yes, we were gullible. Moral of the story: Port Alfred is not a desirable destination. A Villa Le Mer and 4 Carnostie Guesthouses are not safe. The owner is not responsible. Take your chances. Adios.

We stayed on the first floor for two nights in January 2016. It was big and open and sorta-luxe, though it looked as if it was in the second decade of its original interior styling; worn cushions, old bathroom fixtures/broken toilet, and bathroom/kitchen items beyond their prime.

The unit was comfortable and airy during the day, but we were instructed to close all the windows at night, presumably because of crime in the area (in fact we noticed that every house in the neighborhood was set back behind high walls and electric fences; what a shame). But closing all the windows at night really defeats the purpose of a BEACH house; people want an ocean breeze! Something needs changing there...

So yeah, this unit needed repairs/replacements and general updating--it was definitely looking more worn than the shiny website photos suggest. Just FYI.

This wasn't our first choice, but for our little family of dusty travelers it was perfectly fine given the reasonable cost; the nearby beaches are lovely, the place is relatively quiet, and the open veranda is a nice place to sit and chill out (though WiFi coverage is rather poor, sorry to say). Some noise from our upstairs neighbors, but it was fine.

Travelers: Port Alfred is really not the place I remember--which is both good and bad. Had it not been such a busy, overbooked time of year I'd definitely have sought something further up or down the coast, away from people and noise. But if you want to be more central, this is a decent spot to be near shops and a couple of OK restaurants. (Be warned that on holiday weekends, restaurants are overcrowded.)

Yvonne and the cleaning lady were friendly and helpful. Our unit was huge and a joy to live in. It has all the equipment that one needs except maybe a tumble dryer which would be useful. We are looking forward to our third visit at the end of this year!

On arrival we were welcomed by Yvonne who showed us to our room. It was spacious, had all the expected necessities, but in particular had a lovely view of the Indian Ocean. Access to a lovely lounge with an equally stunning view. Good breakfast and honesty bar in the lounge completed a lovely stay.

This B&B rates highly based on the owners, Anthony and Colleen, who are so friendly I'd go back over and over! The rooms themselves are spacious, beautifully decorated, and luxurious, and breakfast was laid on like we were at a 5-star resort! If the weather had been nicer we'd probably have taken advantage of the pool; as it was we lounged around in the lovely comfortable living room and helped ourselves from the honour-bar. A really restful stay making Port Alfred well-worth visiting.

We drove into small seaside town of Port Alfred without a hotel booking and in desperate need of somewhere clean, comfortable and welcoming after having spent the previous night without sleep on safari in one of the Eastern Cape’s game reserves. Sometimes in life – chance can pay dividends. And by chance we saw a road sign to “Carnoustie” showing 5 stars with its promise of just that - the 5 star luxury we were craving. So we followed the signs and found a perfect resting place.

Carnoustie (or is it 4Carnoustie?) is about 1 block from the shore but built on a hillside giving panoramic views of the shoreline. The property is built on a number of different levels with most of the guest rooms located on the top floors. We were shown to a corner room at the end of the veranda with double aspect windows. Fantastic views, spacious bright room with comfortable bed and pillows, air-con, free wifi and amazing value for money. Even the en-suite shower had a view. We paid 800 Rand for the room plus breakfast. I would happily have paid double!!

Just along the veranda was the lounge and a small splash pool. Incidentally, we noticed on the floor below a large apartment with self catering kitchen and open plan living accommodation, 2 double bedrooms with ensuite and private decking. Again with stunning views so I made a note for the future because, for 2 couples sharing, it would be a great location. Our host, Anthony, was most charming and very helpful. That evening we drove into town to eat and at Anthony’s suggestion went to the Wharf Street Brew Pub which was a delight. Would definitely stay at Carnoustie again but next time for longer.
