Detailed Reviews
Port Alfred is great and I might just show up again soon… I am grateful for the last minute booking after trying every other place. I loved my first time in Port Alfred and my daughter and I liked the guest house. We generally do not have real complaints except for the 2 things which we highlighted. 1. Please improve on the breakfast as it is the only meal offered. We tried it once and chose not to take it on the rest of the days. 2. If possible, please have tiled rooms without carpets/mats for people with allergies and sinuses. Otherwise, happiness!!!

One night stay. Good mattress and bedding. Good location. The bathroom is not appealing, shower is rusty and leaking. The whole bathroom gets wet when showering. Pool is dirty and not well maintained.

Pleasant stay in Port Alfred - generally easy to please travelers.
However, cleaner linen and towels needs to be improved on.
Our kettle also seemed to trip our plugs - we reported it. The kettle was taken and we were told it would be replaced. It wasn't unfortunately.
Not a biggy, but we did miss our evening cup of tea for our last night.

I booked this place on safari now it looked nice n comfortable through the pictures. I booked it for my birthday weekend with my son n husband we booked the luxury room just to be placed in a family room without communication to why after the reception man couldn't explain we looked for another place to book as it was not up to standard when I looked it was fully booked all around port alfred as it was late around 8 we checked in so had no choice to sleep der. We had loadshedding no alternative as a light or gas stove I had to make a bottle for my baby with cold milk n der were no communication to when exactly loadshedding would be so we can prepare everything was just a mess and spoiled my whole birthday weekend would not recommend this place. Unprofessional and lack of good quality service

Could not get to the property for the first night's accommodation due to circumstances out of our control and requested a cancellation, 30 minutes after the booking was made and paid but was refused. Rooms smelled and was not clean and dilapidated. Shower was dirty. Communal lounge area was just outside our room and the other guests were noisy and was listening to music.

Absolutely terrible. Dirty carpets, windows, linen. There is no water due to drought, no drinking water available. Cupboard doors broken, food from previous visitors still in cupboard, resortanager having party above our room, wooden walkways are rotting, lights not working, no room service due to covid, cups not washed and no facilities to wash them, free parking is outside on the road with no security. Just run down and unkempt. Booked out 8pm on second night (of 6) night stay. Advertised abs breakfast inclusive, but on arrival, charged extra. WiFi not working. A dump

We have just returned home after three super weeks in South Africa. One of the highlights of the holiday we must share with fellow Trippers is our stay at the Royal Guest House in Port Alfred. We found this guest house on the internet and like others tend to accept some of the descriptions owners provide with a pinch of salt.
But the Royal lived up to all the descriptions and our expectations. Everything about the place was splendid, from the rooms (we chose Room 5 with a great view over the river at Port Alfred), to the breakfasts (great choice), to the honesty bar and to the pool. But the best part was the staff of the guest house - from the manager (Meagan) who had her finger on every button (everything was just as you would want it to be), to Michael who watched over visitor’s cars overnight and to the lovely African girls who generally looked after us. And the prices are reasonable too – given the quality of service and facilities provided.
If you want a great place for a few days off the beaten track in SA - Port Alfred might fit the bill and the Royal provide the place to rest a weary head. The sea and beach are wonderful and local places to visit offer all sorts of experiences. In town you must eat at Butlers, overlooking the river. And, don’t miss the nearby town of Bathurst. It has the oldest pub in South Africa and the best agricultural museum we have ever seen, including the first caravan! Alan, the guy in charge, is wonderful and can explain how everything works – and prove that nothing is new!

Was an awesome experience with fantastic service, accommodation and food. The reception guy (Leo) was very friendly and helpful and everything was booked beforehand which made our stay more relaxing with no worries.

Excellent value for money! I left feeling thoroughly pampered and spoilt! The rooms were neat and clean and the buffet breakfast was scrumptious! The staff was professional and very helpful. I will definitely be visiting again!
