Long story short we found ourselves without a place to stay at 7pm, 50 km away from Port Alfred. We found the place on booking.com on our smart phone, booked and here we were happy to find a place to sleep and the magical experienced stated.

By all mean go.

The place is very well decorated with a lot of taste, room, bed, bathroom.... Everything was tasteful and great.

The hosts welcome you in a family like environment. They are discrete, nice and pleasant.

The white deck offers a (distant) view on the ocean

We feel blessed to have missed our initial shelter and bumped into the dune house.

I had the pleasure of staying at Dune House recently and enjoyed a wonderful and relaxed holiday...just what I needed. The establishment is run by my brother Bas and I must say he really impressed me with what he has managed to create in Dune House. Living in the UK and visiting family in South Africa means I will now become a regular at Dune House. For those who appreciate a great meal, Bas is also the in-house chef, so whether it is for breakfast or one of his spectacular evening foodie events, you will find some exotic recipes and drinks to match when you get there. Hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!

We chose a B&B in Port Alfred as the hotels in the town are not very special. Basil, our host, made us very welcome and we felt quite at home right away! Our rooms were delightful and homely. As in most B&B's we had to share a common ablution facility which can be quite off-putting. Reason for this is that you have to respect other lodgers as well.
The house is very central, near the beach and not too far away from the town centre. Parking was a bit of a problem as there is only place for two to three vehicles and to get in and out one has to be an expert at reversing. Basil is a qualified chef and his meals are star quality (breakfast as well!)

Unforgivable: when we arrived with our booking confirmation we were informed they had sold our room to a previous guest. With a half-hearted apology they offered us a broom-cupboard of a room at a fraction less. Take it or leave it; we left it. It feels as though they've been in business too long to care -- a marked contrast to most of the friendly and helpful hosts we encounter in South Africa.

Overall we had a pleasant stay. The owner was nice, welcoming and helpful. The guesthouse is located in a quiet and clean local neighborhood. Wifi was working and there was a lovely terrace and a living room for common use.

We didn't like the decor of the guesthouse: it was simply overly decorated and the Christmas tree was still standing in the breakfast room (in February?!). We felt that it must be very hard to keep all these decorations dust-free...

Furthermore our room and the bed was very small. We had difficulties to fit two suitcases in. Three rooms have to share one bathroom.

Breakfast was home cooked but the omelette was somehow seasoned weirdly. It was simply not our taste.

Spent 5 days with my family and it was most enjoyable. Everyone is friendly, willing to help at all times and made us feel very welcomed. The views and location of this property are outstanding and it's a short walk to the beach. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. We were well looked after, thank you! We shall definitely return.

The location is easily accessible and very close to everything. Last minute booking.
Price was decent. Check in was effortless.
Warm welcome and I enjoyed the openness and accessibility to use amenities. The view from the balcony is stunning. Make sure you have cash because card facilities not always working at the premises.

Only downside was other guests were extremely noisy and walls are paper-thin so hard to sleep.

Other then that awesome venue and a enjoyable stay.

Nice place, conveniently located, just two steps from the ocean. It has a beautiful terrace with the ocean view. The breakfast is good, although it’d be better if they asked about bacon and eggs (we’ve already had it for a few days in a row as a typical SA breakfast).
