We were two families of 4, travelling back from our coastal holiday to Johannesburg and thoroughly enjoyed our overnight stay with Nick and Fabrice. Both are delightful hosts, providing a very charming and appointed house, serving a diverse and very tasty menu in their restaurant, with largely local-sourced ingredients. We were sorry not to be staying longer to enjoy more of their menu which they were happy to adjust to our taste and the kid's palates. The rooms have every comfort (TV, Aircon, real coffee) with noticeable and appreciatively soft, high-thread count cotton bedding, all of which is laundered and ironed daily. We also enjoyed their two very friendly dogs, Josephine (Great Dane) and George the Weimaraner. While we were all accommodated in the house, there is a separate cottage for families with younger kids and or dogs who may find Josephine and George less friendly. Next time we're travelling down to the coast, we will most certainly be staying at Nick's Place again.

It was my first time in Smithfield and I was told that Nick's place was the only place to stay at. We were greeted with a friendly hello from behind a mask, the owners we so welcoming and informative of the area. Nicks's place has a great menu and a well stocked bar, the menu consists of starters mains and desserts all freshly prepared to order. The Chicken and hamburgers are a must try as well as anything off the dessert menu. The rooms are well laid out with Aircon/heaters electric blankets & filter coffee at your disposal, there is a TV in the room with selected channels, the water was hot and all round very clean. I recommend this place to any discerning traveler who passes through Smithfield in the Free State. 5 stars all around.

We stayed at Nick’s Place for just one night as part of a slow journey down to Cape Town. It was a delight. From the interesting antique decor to the heavenly bed to the delicious dinner and breakfast, the whole experience was extremely well received. I’d even go back just for the crepes suzette! Highly recommended.
